Amelia Earhart wasn't a member of the Air Force...
If she was actually in the Air Force and I didn't know, please do not drown me in red thumbs.

no, you moron
Amelia Earhart safely flew around the world, but when she landed she realised that no one gave a **** about pilots or women anymore, so she invented an immortal potion, and had a sex and race change, and in 2008 she ran for president under the name Barack Obama.

Considering it's an air force plane and she was lost in the tropics. No not really.
Plus researchers believe they've found parts of her plane off the shores of Nikumaroro Island, about 3,000 miles northeast of Australia

Here's an interesting recovery as well of a whole squadron of planes that were forced to land in Greenland in WWII. Over the years, layers upon layers of ice formed up over the planes, burying the whole squadron. They are still recovery the pieces,or trying to find more.

Pic is P-38 Lighting being dug out.

This story sucks. It's a bunch of near-perfectly preserved P-38s and B-17s. And they can't get them all out before the ice migrates to the ocean and the planes are lost forever.

I was more thinking about the people who crash-landed the squadron on ice. They had to survive using only pieces of their airplanes, trying to make stoves, working radios/Morse code station, and they even build little rides to pass the time. One was a bit of cord and a parachute. One end tied to the tail of the bomber, the other on the parachute. They would ride the parachute for observation at first, trying to see if there were rescuers in sight, then they used it for entertainment. The book is pretty cool too. shows the survival story and then back to present time as they try to unearth as much as they can.

Here is a movie about this sort of thing. Based off a true World War II story. I give it an 8.5/10. Into the White Official Trailer #1 (2013) - Rupert Grint Movie HD

There's a documentary on the real recovery op. I don't recall the video's name, but the P-38 they restored is called Glacier Girl.

Thanks for the info, but we were talking about the people that had to crash-land and survive.

Also, why did you say "op"? The op is not in this thread.

Hey, I just thought you might like to know the honest-to-god story of what happened after, not someone's thoughts on what may have happened during.

op as in operation. It was a recovery operation.
