Is that the actual term? I've been calling them fat boy pullups since high school. I stopped being able to do pullups when i got big enough to play fullback, but those ******* still work great.
I've been going to a gym now for about 4 months, I had no idea how to do most of the stuff they had in there. I asked questions and watched other people. We all got to start somewhere, though that last one is utterly ridiculous.
The very first picture of the guy pulling the bar at an angle is actually a legitimate exercise. It is what you do to train yourself to do pulls ups if you are not able to do even one. You start at an angle and make it more and more extreme until you have the strength to do 1. The train as normal from there.
actually, the version in the pic is better then machine, because machines follow a line. With free weights u have to stabilze yourself and that is a better stimulance for the muscles.
That's true. although losing weight/gaining strength through the lat mach works betetr in my experience. but this is actually really good to train the pull up
Well, it's not "what you do to train for pull-ups", it's the row. Lat pulldown is a different exercise. Both work back, but they concentrate on different regions.
The row is freaking awesome. With just slight variations, one basic movement works sooooo goddamn much!
So many new people seem to think that working out is about biceps, triceps, and pecs; when the male figure is mostly defined by shoulders and back. If there's one exercise to be doing, it's the row.
Put your knees where she's got her arse, then do pullups on the top bars, or tricep dips on the side bars. It's got a counterweight system so people who aren't manly enough to do them with bodyweight can get a weight reduction.
I'm sorry that I have no respect for people that have let themselves go to such an extent that they can no longer lift their own weight. If there is a medical reason for it fine, but for most people it is just laziness and slovenly living.
Maybe to some, physical fitness is of a lesser priority than other things. Have you considered how few take care of their mental and emotional health? Just because your life standards and ideals include perfect physical condition doesn't mean that others' have to.
There's a difference to actively destroying your body, and focusing on other things than physical fitness. I mean, think about how few people take care of their EMOTIONAL and MENTAL fitness huh?
I assume by how fired up you are over this, that you are overweight due to focusing on healthy mind. That's all well and good for you, but there are actually numerous studies showing the positive effect exercise has on emotional well being. Also, having a healthy mind is useless if you eat yourself into an early grave.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble, but having a healthy body doesn't necessarily equate to having a fit body. I'm not overweight, but I'm no weightlifter or marathon runner either
I've never been very strong in my arms, but my leg power is pretty good.
In my gym there's an unaided pull up bar and an aided pull up machine. I hate it when people bring elastic aids to the unaided bar when there's a machine for ilk such as they.
Because me and most of my friends have issues with working out in public. I had an Idea were you can have a gym and rent out a room for yourself and a guest to work out in privacy.
This way people can workout or loose weight without the judgement or fear of everyone's stare.
Yeah great idea, lets let some jackwad who's never worked out before get stuck under 300lbs of free weights inside of a room where no one can see them.
oh god.. just get a grasp of how few exercises are done beforehand and stick to them for that workout.
Why would you do womething stupid with equipment, when you do it wrongly? When I was a lot younger I too sort of thought - omg, what if the old timer gym guys think I am some kind of incompetetn kid. But you go to gym once, twice and you're good.
The only moment when I feel larger gyms would be better, when there are rare peak-hours and there's just too much people. Usually tons doing something with dumbbells.
But in general - training with others is better. Especially if you really want to achieve something, you'll need someone to help you with some few last reps when working with big weights.
Im going there soon cause one is opening and i hate paying bull **** prices cause all the gyms in my area pay 40 a month and after you've gone for 6 months the price increases to 70 a month where as planet fitness is just 10 a month. also i hear planet fitness hate people that lift weights a lot like big guys cause they are a "family gym" can you confirm this?
if you're a beginner and you're tight on money i guess its an ok place to start but as soon as you start making some serious progress they'll probably kick you out.
not sure if serious about kicking me out .-. i usually work out in my gym glass at school but recently they wont let us go everyday like they used to and and my mother sold my bench set without telling me while i was at school so i haven't been able to do nearly as much as id like
yeah planet fatness has a "lunk alarm" that goes off when you lift heavy weights and drop them. They give their members free pizza and cup cakes every first monday of the week. You're also not allowed to take selfies, wear tank tops, or bring a jug of water. if you grunt or make noises when lifting the alarm goes off and you are told to stop it or you get kicked out. The dumbells aslo only go up to 70 lbs which isnt that heavy and they dont really have benches. youre also not allowed to do lots of exercises (squats and deadlifts) because they scare people. They are cheap at only $10 per month but they frown upon people that try to make any progress. Luckily for me, my golds gym is only 20 per month.
Jesus wept, grow a pair and say "how do" to the world. If you worry about people judging you, you're starting in the wrong place. I started gyming when I was 6'0 and 150lbs. Yes, you get stares, but running from them until you feel comfortable with yourself is not the way to go. Man the **** up and use those stares as fuel to reach your ambitions. Take your ridiculous idea elsewhere.
Do you even realize what you just said?
What if this topic was about depression and you told me just to stop being depressed.
If people could just say " hey il just not be depressed or stressed out"
everyone would do it.
Im not trying to be rude, but help you realize what you ask for.
I've never tried seated cable rows (Or heard of them, for that matter). Maybe my lifting location doesn't support them?
Either way, I find that between pullups, bent-over rows w/ reverse pushups between sets, lat pulldowns, and full rows, my back and bi are covered well enough already.
Body weight rows are not that hard. Try seated cable rows/ bent-over barbell rows, pull ups (Y grip)/ wide grip lat pull downs and barbell shrugs/ upright rows for a more strenuous work out.
body weight exercises are all relative. You can be weak and weigh 120 and do more pull ups that someone who is strong and weighs a lot more. My personal favorite is dips while holding dumbells with your feet
