If they're not going to make it, at least give it to a studio that will.
And giving it to Naughty Dog is probably the best choice

They have steam, it's not like they are going to go out of money

they tried that with battlefront. look what happened

yeah look at that game that's not out yet

the Beta was incredible, balancing issues were there which is something the team said they would fix and that that is exactly the kind of thing they wanted to find out with the beta

> speeders taking down walkers are qte
> collectibles are stupid floating blue things that probably will do nothing
> lasers have no ambient lighting despite the fact that bf2 had this, in 2005
> the game force starts you in first person
> Vader's va sucks ass
> completely online except for solo survival. There are no cpu skirmishes. If you don't have a good connection, you essentially can't play this game. Lack of story mode is a bummer, but lack of single player stuff is what counts more
> limiting max player count to 40, and only ever even get that in specific game modes
> lack of classes
> despite what people say and the arguments against, after actually experiencing it, it very clearly IS a battlefield reskin.
> EA already announced the battlefield style dlc, of course telling us they're not giving us the full game at launch. I'm not paying $110 for a glorified battlefield reskin
> 12(14) maps is more than fine to start with, BUT ON ONLY 4(5) PLANETS? No.
> I would say lack of space battles, but 1. There's really only so much you can do with that and I understand the cut, although am not happy with it. 2. You know it's going to be in one of the dlc packs, despite the fact that they discussed at length to include it, decided against it, just so they could bring it back in dlc and say it was due to "overwhelming fan response" even though it was planned from day 1.

This game it's very pretty despite lack of lasers having ambient lighting but ultimately it fails as a star wars battlefront game and will be "awesome" as a battlefield game. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things but it's early and I have class soon .You don't even know, I'm the biggest star wars fan and I've been waiting for this game for over 10 years. And now I'm not getting it. Not because they failed in my expectations or anything, I knew ea was going to shill it up. But they've completely ruined the game. Someone needs to save Dice and buy them from ea because this **** is disgusting
User avatar #63 to #61 - letriggs (11/03/2015) [-]
okay you make some points but some of the other stuff you say honest to god sounds dumb

>the blue things are not collectables, they're extra power-ups/vehicles which whilst I don't like how you get vehicles that way it makes everyone move forwards instead of sitting waiting at a base for a vehicle to spawn
>the lighting would take game resources away from everything else in the game also the lasers in the movies dont have ambient lighting so it is actually closer to the movies in that respect
>if it was the other way around people would complain about that, you can also change that in the options menu before starting the game
>agreed his VA is bad
>other games exist that are online only
>player counts at 40, most multiplayer games are a lot lower even for thei big game modes
>make your class with a loadout
>of course it was going to be a battlefield style game, the older battlefront stuff was inspired by batllefield and then the battlefield dev team made it, also Battlefield-esque games sell
>EVERY ONLINE SHOOTER HAS DLC! Have you seen call of duty DLC? That **** is way more of a rip off, they don't have the DLC sat in some vault somewhere finished waiting for them to release it, it is not cut content from the game they then release later it is stuff they haven't ******* started making yet, people need to get this stupid idea that they shave off 50% of the game to sell as DLC out of their head
>so what should they do? have one map per planet with 12 planets? you see a very small amount of planets in the original star wars trilogy plus they're adding another planet with more maps a couple weeks after launch for free and no doubt each DLC will be a different planet
>space battles would be cool but it would require the team to make a whole new sky box which does cost a lot of money. We may see it and they probably do want to do it as DLC that's not something that sells or doesn't sell the game to me

ultimately what this is coming down to as always is "ermagurd ea make da game that mak it berd" I enjoy the games and I enjoyed the old battlefront but I had more fun than ever with the beta and honestly cannot wait for the new game

just remember it isn't battlefront 3 it is a different game

>oh yes, thats what i forgot to mention. vehicles are power ups now. thats ******* stupid
>are you ******* retarded? im seriously asking. do you know what happens when you shoot a laser, or any light source for that matter, in a space? that space lights up. and it damn sure happened in the movies as well
>good. agreed.
>i dont give a **** about other games. this is battlefront. not "other games"
>this is not most MP games. this is battlefieldfront. and they limited it on purpose. they said so.
>make my class with a loadout? and be the only one to do so? i dont think so
>no **** , but they took all the good things away. like squads. at least they made it so you cant aim down the sights.
>yes, and it doesnt matter that every one does. it has it, and is therefore less good
>youre a goddamn idiot. no, 2 maps per planet would be a good idea, and ******* look to the other battlefront games to see planets. are you ******* stupid? plus sullust and jakko arent even in OT
>they are definitely going to include it in dlc. just you wait

Naughty Dog would make a great game. But I don't think it would truly be half life.
#4 - anon (11/02/2015) [-]
how about no.
1 ) half life is a PC first game... ND will never be able to produce a game for PC that wont be a **** console port due to severe lack of experience in that area.
2 ) only Valve knows what should happen with the HL universe.

No offense, but i found the last of use a boring game after finishing it... story was nice, gameplay was a dump...
Uncharted is **** , overhyped **** ...

User avatar #6 to #4 - fiveblackmen ONLINE (11/02/2015) [-]
I wouldn't call uncharted **** . It just had you play a 3-4 hour long movie. Although that is what most games are now and many of them not done nearly as well.
#29 to #6 - Freelon (11/03/2015) [-]
I hate to break it to ya but Uncharted IS **** . All of em. But I'm only speaking on experience from the remastered collection on PS4, which lacks multiplayer

The shooting was beyond bad. Enemies were apparently wearing bullet proof tank tops because they soaked in bullets like water. And then they'll come you with shotguns and riot armor. All to take out one guy. Pretty much negates all attempts at cover too once someone perfectly tosses a grenade at your foot.

The climbing also felt forced, but acceptable. It just sucked when you had to do it in a timely fashion to escape death.

The best thing the games have going for them is good graphics (which you forget about after you shoot a guy dead and his body does a 360 flip)

The collection came free with my PS4 and I still want my money back for it. It was just pure unfun and I don't know how the game got all of that praise
#34 to #29 - gloriousthighs (11/03/2015) [-]
Nah, it was like the Last of Us, an enjoyable experience but more of a playable movie than a game. I got the remastered collection, finished it all then sold it. Not **** at all.
User avatar #41 to #34 - fiveblackmen ONLINE (11/03/2015) [-]
I'm with you on this. They are enjoyable, but extremely short and not worth the initial price tag. The series has a much larger focus on story than gameplay, which is what most people complain about, but I found the gameplay to be adequate for the type of game. Sure, it isn't going to be realistic but few games out there are realistic and almost every game that involves shooting likes to make it like everyone is wearing body armor and can take a number of shots before going down. The people that didn't like them seemed to be expecting something like CoD or Battlefield, where there is no longer a story and everyone just plays online where they spend hundreds to thousands of hours just shooting each other, calling each other ******* and making references to banging each others' mothers. They also forget that video games are very subjective and that their opinions and mine, for that matter, are just opinions and not facts.
#8 to #4 - tacoperson ONLINE (11/03/2015) [-]
even valve doesn't know what to do with the HL universe. They wrote themselves into a corner and can't satisfactorily finish the series. That's the real reason we'll never get HL3.
and if there's one thing naughty dog knows how to do it's write a good story.

Can't argue with you on the pc port issue though.
User avatar #23 to #8 - purdon (11/03/2015) [-]

#35 to #23 - tacoperson ONLINE (11/03/2015) [-]
uncharted 1 and 2 are very good story wise imo, especially the twist of one, and last of us was also good.

Also I personally enjoyed all the jak games but naughty dog isn't going to make any more like that so I guess that's a moot point.

User avatar #19 to #9 - cagetheelophant ONLINE (11/03/2015) [-]
I mean that's what half life is by today's standards dude. It's only revolutionary cause it did it first.
#27 to #19 - ilikepatatas (11/03/2015) [-]
the first one can't be generic
generic are those that generate afterwards following the mold

example:
dbz ->mold
naruto -> generic
User avatar #28 to #27 - cagetheelophant ONLINE (11/03/2015) [-]
I mean, saying it's a mold doesn't make it as enjoyable as modern games. And valve has no idea and no room to innovate on the first person shooter linear thing. Hundreds of other companies have been doing it for years now. Nothing they could make now would be the least bit impressive. But it's all a moot point. Valve has said that they're never making the game partly because noone in the company actually wants to make it, partly because it'll never be the CS:GO/DOTA 2 cash cow they need their games to be.
#31 to #28 - ilikepatatas (11/03/2015) [-]
i mean it would be someting completely different from half life
#30 to #28 - ilikepatatas (11/03/2015) [-]
anything with the portal 2 style of things plus guns would actually be what we expected
and would make it worthwhile
cash cows are cash cows, half life would never be one because its not even close to the genre
tf2 started all this
and thos other companies you mention suck at what they do, they just have pretty business tactics
people simply want an fps that isn't an fps
hey just think they know sooooooooooo much about the genre that they have this idea burned onto their brain that a new and revolutionary fps can't exist at all because it still looks like an fps
they wan't changes they can't even grasp because they can't even exist within our reality
maybe they can, but it'd be a wacky indie game, which would be cool but in no way incorporable to half life

> Naughty Dog
> Generic Shooter
What?
User avatar #52 - indecisivejew (11/03/2015) [-]
Why not Machine games or Id software, or even irrational games? You know, some companies that actually make first person shooters?

Naughty Dog's obviously great at the cinematic stuff, but besides being Sony owned, I'm not sure I'd 100% trust them with the mechanics of a shooter with the clout of Half Life.
User avatar #53 to #52 - jrockjesse (11/03/2015) [-]
I mean they could most likely do it, and probably do it really really well, I mean they went from games like crash bandicoot & Jak & daxter, to games like uncharted & last of us. when put to the test I am sure they could do it, the only issue I have is that I think a company needs to be 3rd party and make Half Life 3 multiplatform rather then exclusive say what you want about consoles, but there is no reason to cut a large amount of customers
User avatar #46 - SmilingJackSmyth (11/03/2015) [-]
Sure, cos Freeman Drake wouldn't be ******* disappointing.

I'm happy to wait another 5-10 years if that's what it takes for Valve to make the third as big a hit as the first two were.

I'm actually looking forward to the day HL3 comes out, and completely fails to live up to the insane standards the internet has pushed on it.

HL2 was amazing because of the era it was released in. It's still a great game now, but it was release in an era when FPS games were filled with garbage. It helped set a new standard for how they should be played.

If you don't agree, just imagine if HL2 was released yesterday. How do you think people would react to it now? Would it still be known as one of the best FPS games ever? Or would most people just go "It was pretty decent." and forget about it....

It's like WoW. Vanilla WoW was introduced at just the right time. Everyone loved it and formed countless memories with hundreds of hours of play time.

10 years later, even though the game is way more user friendly and has features that improve everything... People don't like it because it can't recreate that feeling they got when experiencing it for the first time. It never will, it's an impossible task.

Just like HL3.. It's not going to be what you think it's going to be. It can't live up to the expectations in your mind.
User avatar #45 to #38 - Silver Quantum (11/03/2015) [-]
one of the most important things right up there with gameplay is story. in the case of half life that is especially true since it has one of the best story lines in gaming history and what many of us need at this point is closure. hl2ep2 ended with a massive cliffhanger and we just need to know what happens next. sure, gameplay wise i imagine they can't really come up with many things we haven't already seen, but if there is something any true half life fan wants is a good ending to one of the most iconic gaming franchises in history. i imagine whenever source 2 engine is released, hl3 is soon to follow. unless they wanna release the game right off the bat with the s2 engine. and to all you nay sayers that the game will never be released, valve has been extremely tight lipped about hl3. even in an interview with gabe from last january i believe, he said he could be asked literally any question about any valve game except hl3. so much secrecy must amass to something and i honestly believe we'll at least get some answers when s2 engine is released
