to take a small fall rather than end up on the wrong side of town with no way to return without risking getting a huge fine is my first thought.
It looks like the train is just starting to build up momentum for leaving the station so it shouldn't be going that fast yet and while yeah he falls over because of his terrible form he doesn't seem that bad off.
