My little sisters question

My 11 y/o sister learned about atoms in school today. She came up to me just now and asked me this.

I'm a sophomore in college majoring in pharmacy. Thought this question was amazing.

For those who are mentioning that it is a molecular structure/wondering where the funny is:
Yes, it is a molecule. I was trying to get across that I am currently taking an O-chem class, so I have already learned about atoms. The fact that my sister lives with me, knows my major, and asked me if I know what an atom is, is slightly sad but funny. Here is another version of this same drawing in case you really really really want an atom in that thought bubble.

For those wondering what the structure is:
It's 3-chlorobenzoic acid (you give the carboxyl group top priority, and then try to assign the Cl the smallest number)

Pretty neat drawing, but not funny

Thumb up funny OC, thumb down reposts, and not troll in the comment section? Of course, will do.
And I'm already in the kitchen.

The joke is that she is being sarcastic when she says that she doesn't know what atoms are. I think.

bad attempt at trying to brag about being "smart"

As a fellow pharmacy student, with a sibling 8 years younger than me, I think I can relate all too well with this. The best part is when my little sister asks for help in science, but then disregards everything I say.

I was more of a physics man, that was my first choice after I quit pharm school. But that didn't work out because I couldn't get past Calc 2 (I took calc 1 in pharm school, and then haven't taken a math course for 2 years, I couldn't remember **** ). The discrepancy between my little sis and I is 16 years. She hasn't gotten to that point in school yet to ask me for help luckily.

And by the time she does, I'll be gone bombing **** on the other side of the world.

Every day, I almost regret hanging in there this long. As it stands, I'm now $120,000 in debt, with 2 more years to go, so I'm kinda locked in to it.

I don't get the joke.

I mean...that's kinda just like something you'd mention in a brief or passing conversation, not really a joke

Thumbing up so it gets to the top spot and people can point out where the funny is

You drew a molecule, not an atom
User avatar #24 to #18 - blargchikahonkhonk ONLINE (03/04/2014) [-]
surely looking at molecules would be takeing a step back from atoms, molecules are bigger than atoms and composed of atoms so examining them is still the study of atoms. The only way to move beyond the atom would be to look at an area where everything you are examining is not made of atoms such as particle physics outherwise you are sill looking at atoms.
