I found the company that makes them, Heatsurge LLC, and poked around a bit, turns out they are basically just glorified electric fan-type space heaters that are made to look like a fireplace.
Their current flagship model, the "2016 Roll-n-Glow EV-4", costs $398 That is the sale price, normal price is $596 uses 1500W of power and outputs 4,606 BTUs British Thermal Units
Compare that to a $40 oil-radiator type space heater that use 1500W and outputs 4600 BTUs
Then there is their branding and marketing... DEAR GOD!
I mean seriously, they are so ******* manipulative and misleading that Machiavelli would call them dishonest.
They use words like "Amazing" and "Miracle" and other meaningless buzzwords to describe a mediocre product.
They have a "sale" from September to April every year, ie when people actually want to buy space heaters, so they can use the summer price when saying "normal price $596, but now only $398!".
Their constant "new" models are just last year's models with new names and sometimes a new woodstain.
And finally it is just the wood cabinet that is Amish, it is plainly stated on the FAQ page of Heatsurge's website that the heater units are manufactured in China.
Put simply, its a scam. Or to quote an American consumer watchdog group:
"The only miracle is that anyone buys these fireplaces"
