Probably earlier. Why would I get a thumb down for this? Its ******* true people have been selling out for just money for a long time. Makes them greedy... makes people think its cool to drink Pepsi n **** .. pepsi is gross anyway
well for around 150,000 years we didn't have cities or money or the like, and time started a long time before humanity arrived, thus your point is both invalid and sad since it took a michael jackson commercial from 30 years ago to bring your to a "profound" realization. Yes money (and its distribution) is the root of most of our societal ills, but whatcha gonna do?
Also what do you mean by selling out? Michael was famous and young, people wanted him for their products and were willing to give him money, and he was willing to take it. he was a pop musician, trying to get as much exposure as possible, and not some underground indie musician raging at the machine. That's just selling yourself intelligently. Selling out is compromising your morals or values, or what you stand for in exchange for money.
Also i didn't thumb you down until you complained about being thumbed down.
Like he is selling out because he was in the music industry.. not advertising.... its using that whole image to brain wash people into buying products.. oh a famous person did an advert for it, it must be good..
elvis was a sell out apparently, I mean he had tons of products and movies.
if the king of pop and the king of rock and roll were both sellouts, then who isnt? Unless you are working for yourself doing your dream job, you are a sellout too.
Okay you are being slightly pedantic man. I didn't literally mean the start of time but to me... 30 years ago is a long time. I am only 20 but what I meant by it is that he is doing exactly that, he is making money doing adverts for a product that harms peoples health and bodies just so he can get more money and be more famous... and the world would be a much better place without his ****** pop music and pedophilia..
And I don't listen to "indie" or what every you call it...
Yeah but i mean why wouldn't you? If someone asked me to do an add for a product, especially one as relatively harmless (in small doses) as pepsi, i would definitely do it and not consider it selling out.
but people have exchanged their effort for goods or services since the beginning of time. Is it selling out to work at a business that isnt always the best to everyone? I mean in a way yes, but it's more we take the opportunities we have. If you are offered a job at a wal mart executive making 400k per year, you would probably take it, even if you might not love all aspects of the company or their business practices. Its called pragmatism.
Popular music has always existed, and naysayers have always been like you, calling it a smut on society. Now i am not saying I disagree with the state of modern corporate funded/created pop singers, but complaining about it does little good, even if it feels good to vent.
indie just means independent music, some of it is good much is not, like any music.
Its more the fact okay say this. A musician makes music because he likes making music.. starts off all like "I am not in it for the money etc" obviously they do it for money thats acceptable you need money. But its when they use their fame of making music to make some stupid ****** advert for some ******** thing and spending more time doing that then making the music.... they then make their music to how they are paid to make it by their record company... thats selling out
Yeah but jackson and the jackson 5 were always managed to be successful and sell a lot. In fact michael jackson became less and less a sellout the more famous he became.
I dont disagree that it would be nice if musicians just did it for the music, and they do, but you wont hear those people on the radio very often.
Someone here could be ******* one of those kids from that commercial, more interesting still someone here could be the child of one of those kids from that commercial.
man, I feel so ******* bad for MJ. I remember when he used to be a ******* legend. he was like the eminem of todays society. everyone loved him. then as he got older he just turned into a joke, everyone made fun of his apearance and called him a pedophile. it's ******* hurtful that he left this world, seeing himself not as the king of pop, but a weird looking pedophile.
and off course now that he is gone, he is suddenly praised again, like every other lost artist
im not at all saying he was a pedophile, but there's no denying he was a strange guy example: he and Freddy mercury were going to record an album together, however Freddy canceled when MJ insisted his pet alpaca would be allowed into the studio
