Someone in my maths class was gullible enough to believe ostrich began with a silent q. The teacher had to tell her at the end of the class, so she doesn't tell others and make a fool of herself.
Everywhere I've been, World History only covers comparatively recent conflicts, and only glances at the past. Didn't cover much in the past except philosophers and Hammurabi's Code, etc.
Im in high school right now Canada, Manitoba I should mention , and I haven't really learned **** all for history besides from my awesome grade 8 teacher. I haven't learned anything really besides Romans, Greeks, Egyptians, and the first humans.
**putincanmeltcrimea used "*roll picture*"** **putincanmeltcrimea rolled image**idk why you get disliked. i went through gymnasium learning ******* from chemistry because the teacher was **** and they threw him out after i graduated and mostly i know history because it interested me and i learned it on my own. we still joke about some of our history teachers ******* when we get together
Yeah I'm in Canada too and we didn't learn **** about mongols. I even took an ancient civilizations course in grade 12 and the only mention of the mongols was as an enemy of china, and we watched a short video about Atilla.
If you haven't researched the mongols on your own tho you're missing out on some great stuff. Genghis khan is literally the most badass human to have ever lived
yeah i guess it is just Quebec. I guess you guys focus so much on that point in history cause it is the only time where you guys were somewhat relevant to that area
Kansas kid here. My only knowledge of history comes from my college courses. What little (and I do mean very little) I learned before high school I mostly don't remember, and the only high school course that taught me anything as an AP course (college credit).
I know about the Mongols but I was never taught about them in school for more than a little sidenote about such and such thing that affected so and so people that we were actually studying
Mine didn't. It was greeks/romans > ww1 > ww2 > cold war > kongo/india
Thats it. Man that was a **** school. And a **** history book. But the book was written by one of the schools teachers, so we had to use it.
Things I was taught in History.
Tudors (And by that I mean we had one lesson where we made tudor looking houses out of boxes)
Battle of Hastings
Slavery
WWI
WWII
The events inbetween WWI and WWII
the events slightly before WWI
as a scot i can say that the mongols were never mentioned once in any of our history lessons, i only know a fair amount about them cos i was really pissed off with the endless roman/ww2 jerking that i went and found out about the persian empire and mongols on my own.
All we did in school was WW1 and 2, some of my friends took History at A Level and the teacher was surprised/disgusted that they hadn't even done Henry VIII. This was at the same school too.
I don't know where you are from, but in the US most states have a history curriculum where you have to learn US history, and then general world history. The problem is that most of the World History classes focus almost entirely on western culture, and it is very sweeping and non-specific. It's why no one in america knows about asian or Middle eastern history. For instance: In my world history class (high school in N.C.) we covered the entirety of the roman empire in a week, and only talked about the extremely important events(first emperor, Constantine changing religion to christianity(NC is a very religious state) etc.) A lot of things get glossed over. The only things we went into any depth on were recent events. World wars, Soviet union, etc. And even then, now a lot of schools are starting to gloss over anything important related to war, because it's "too violent". I feel like the next generation won't even know why world war 1 started.
Its not so much that they don't talk about war, but that they refuse to go into any detail about anything. Even when I was in school most of my classes only taught what the war was about, how it started and the names of important people in it. I got lucky in High school and got a teacher who loved to talk about combat strategies and stuff like that, so we spent like a month a piece on the world wars. It was by far my favorite class. But, from what I am seeing they keep leaving out more and more details. I feel like eventually they'll just teach kids the name of the war and the countries involved.
My American History class glossed over the D-Day invasions and didn't even mention the Battle of the Bulge, and the only world history class I ever had to take was never. Sure I went to a **** High school but ******* really? The American history class basically leaves out the war that resulted in the most American Deaths? And I think WWI took a day or two to 'cover'. Good thing I developed an interest in History and looked up **** on my own, or I would be totally clueless.
Wasn't the us civil war the most deadly? I know that the pacific theatre was really gruesome but the Americans lost "only" about a hundred thousand soldiers in Europe itself. I know that in Russia they teach a lot about the ww2, considering they know it as the great Patriotic war.
In their defense, historians are atill debating what led to the first world war, not to mention that it is confusing as **** without learning about 19th century European nationalism. "Oh timmy it's simple, a dude from the Serbian black hand killed the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne so Europa decided and I quote " **** it, get the canons" and they all went to war, questions?"
My world history class (also N.C.) covered next to nothing outside of western history as well. We spent a literal week on pre-Egypt stuff, then spent like a quarter semester on the origin of modern religions. Because of how little the teacher actually knew about history, we skipped around a lot. and she got "transfered" at the end of the year A little of Rome, then mainly native American tribes. I'm glad that history interests me enough to research, otherwise I would know next to nothing about history outside of the states.
From Canada. in elementary school we just had plane old history class, but were taught Canadian history in detail, u.s. history in detail, european history in detail, and asian history in detail. also others like african and australian so on... but not as in depth
yeah, apparently ones without proper schools. and yet they have computers and internet, which literally has all the info they would need for a curriculum
umm... so me saying it should not be a normal thing for schools to not teach important things, even though they have the information at hand is trolling you? thats what you're going with?
No, because you sure are ignoring a lot of stuff and just looking to be offensive about the subject."Important" is very much subjective. Sure the Mongols were important in Asia and Europe, because is part of their history. Not in my case, and in many others. Other countries have their own history to talk about, you know. Stuff like that is not universally relevant, and it is so obvious for me, so it seemed like you were purposefully ignoring that just to toy with me. But like, whatever.
so the worlds largest empires weren't important enough for your school to teach them in history? thats your argument? just want to clarify it. a empire conquering half of the world isnt something that should be taught in schools because they didnt conquer your country?
and im ignorant for thinking that something so small, like taking over half the world, would be something that should be taught in schools that are not in asia.
well in your case you're right, teaching you stuff just wouldnt work, i think
Dayum, you sure strive to make it personal. Well, you are exaggerating and becoming pretty mad at something small, so it seems you are rather temperamental, which is only natural for asocial people that plague the internet. I'd suggest you lighten up, for your own good anyways.
To put it short, things like the Romans and Greeks get glossed over in weeks in schools here. The Mongols are no exception. So don't get disappointed when we don't know about your random and useless trivia, you cocky **** .
Also, don't respond. I most certainly don't like you. You are a nasty person.
i respond if i want
you're obviously projecting your own emotion onto me, because i was not writing it in anger, but very very thickly laying on the sarcasm in a calm demeanor, while speaking down to you because you think its ok for schools to be ******
There is literally no developed country that has a history course which doesn't teach about the world empires. You aren't American or Australian, that's literally elementary school knowledge, nor by your own logic are you from any European or Asian country. How in the **** do you manage an internet connection all the way out in the ass end of nowhere?
I live in Denmark. In elementary school history, we dealt exclusively with Danish history from the viking age to about 1800.
In 7th-9th grade, we dealt with world history, but mainly the 1700's and forwards in western countries.
In high school, we spent our time on 1850-1980.
Not once did we deal with the roman empire, or anything east of western Russia.
I did learn some things about this from other sources, but it hasn't been relevant once in my life.
History is a big-ass subject. With so much to teach and so little time to do it it's not surprising that countries prioritise the history of their immediate area.
But yes, I was disappointed with how eurocentric my course was. It's way to easy to assume from what we were given that nothing of interest happened outside Europe for thousands of years, when really places like Morocco, Iraq, India and China were all getting major scientific **** done long before we took off.
i know someone this dumb, one time she asked me if dragons were real and i said no and she said if that the chinese have the year of the dragon than it must be real, so i told her to ask someone and theyll tell you theyre not so she did and everyone sarcastially said yes and now she thinks dragons are real
Am I the only one who thinks that not knowing about something does not mean that you are stupid? What if he have heard the word mongol, but didn't know it was an country? Does not mean he is stupid.
On this polish chat app called Gadu-Gadu,my display name is "Carotene dealer".So im sitting, looking for people to chat to,when suddenly this poor soul asks me "A dealer? Really?" to which i respond "Yeah. You buyin?"
"You know, you could get caught by the police,so be careful"
Beware, the dangerous new drug thats hit the street - carrots. Youre gonna look like a pussy carrying around a whole bucket of cocaine compared to a guy with a ******* carrot.

For anyone who cares, the Mongol horde if Genghis Khan swept through Asia but as a mongol horde they did not care much about state forming, they gave equal fights to women and they taxed people, and if they wanted to join the army for loot they could. After Genghis died each of his four sons got 1/4 of his empire. The mongols liked raping and pillaging more than they liked talking and making empires so in time all four empires got destroyed. as far as school goes, if you ever had to learn about the bubonic plague you have learned the hordes most important European legacy. During the siege of Caffa (Now Sebestopol, Crimea) the horde catapulted infected corpses into the city walls, the inhabitants fled to Florence and Venezia and that's why so many people died to the plague.
