GTA: Vice City for PS2 was the first video game that I really *remember* owning. I'm 19, that game came out in 2002, so I would've been... Somewhere between eight and ten, I don't think it was "new" when I got it, 'cause I'd played it at the house of my friends who were even younger than I was.
Game contained a lotta "bad" stuff. Tame by today's standards, but still "bad."
I turned out mostly fine. Any problems I have definitely do not stem from video-games. I'm antisocial, the gaming may contribute to that, but so did a lot of other things. Either way, I'm definitely not some sex-crazed, drug-addicted lunatic who goes out stealing cars and committing mass homicide for the lulz. Still a virgin, don't even do so much as smoke, absolutely hate thieves, and haven't gotten into any sort of physical confrontation since Middle School, and even then? That was two punches traded, the end.
To give you an idea here? My dad was a Schizophrenic involved in every drug known to man, and accidentally wound up killing himself with it. My mom is a habitual liar and thief who can't own up to her problems and face them. Both of them let me do whatever I wanted as a kid, but they drilled it into my head as to what was right and what was wrong.
of them, and my dad especially made a point of telling me never to become like him.
I've got my problems. Plenty of them. But they aren't from video games.
But, long story short? People blaming video games for societal problems are a bunch of ******* morons. They might not help, but letting kids play games isn't necessarily ****** parenting. We shift blame toward objects, things, other people so easily... Yet we never look in the mirror and stop to question whether or not the root of the problem might just be ourselves.
Eh. Food for thought. Ignore me if you like, I like to go off on a tangent every once in a while.
We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.
I just realized that the entire comment section is filled with comments the exact same as mine.
What horrible thing have I just wrought upon myself?
I'd just delete it and pretend you misspelled something
*Shrug* I'll stand by it. Maybe I made a mistake by posting it, but if I deleted it now, I'd be a hypocrite. I'll take my red pinkies if people really want to punish me for telling my story.
I'm already thumb-banned. Might as well ride the wave.
My mum had to write a paper on it for her masters. Its a few bad apples spoiling the bunch with this. Feel your pain son, thumb banning is random and stupid on this
Exactly. It's not to say that it has no effect at all, but people will act how they will. The grand majority of us will act responsibly enough about it, but there are those that overstep boundaries.
And yeah. I have no idea why it happened, I know it has nothing to do with any of the "no adult content" rule, 'cause I don't post it and I don't thumb it. It's been quite a while, but I have no idea where I ought to go in order to figure out what happened.
Well I found out I couldn't thumb. I had no idea what to do, so I tried to report it as a bug. Then it told me I was banned. I had to find more information off of phanact. I've recently got 2 friendly messages saying that I've thumbed **** stuff and if I do it again I'll get banned.
I wasn't aware that Phanact was an authority figure on FJ. I've got no messages of any kind saying I thumbed up something of that sort, so IDK. How did you manage to contact him?
Well hes always been some friend of the admin. Him and the top thumbs rankers had a little invite only board, but I think they had a hissy fit or some ****. But he recently got made a mod I think, so he now has unlimited power. Don't expect to get a reasonable answer out of him. I have him as a friend for easy access to question time, so go onto my profile, find him on my pretty small frind list, then post a comment on his profile or something
His profile is closed so I couldn't leave a comment, but I did go ahead and send him a message. I realize that a reply or a solution is probably unlikely, maybe asking for too much, but it was worth a shot, right?
Well. Bit of news. Phanact did indeed reply to me. It wasn't much, but it's better than what I had before. I evidently thumbed up
that got flagged. He is uncertain as to what it may have been, but it was thumbing something.
I have no idea myself, but since people are getting banned for all sorts of stuff from what I'm hearing, I suppose it could've been any wide variety of things.
But, he says it's probably a two-week ban. So, I can live with that.
