We bitch about how kids getting GTA V easily nowadays yet we spent our childhood playing GTA:SA, VC, LC...etc.. with the same content and proud about it.

Yeah I know, not all of us are kids at that time, but the whole internet jokes & 90's kid stuffs make me think that many people played GTA in their childhood.

I tried getting it, but what is supposed to happen did happen. The guy told my mom what it had, so she said pick another game. It's the parents not the game.

I know I did, and I have fond memories of doing so. I wouldn't have a leg to stand on if I thought they shouldn't play.

My first GTA game was my step-dad's so, I must've been around nine when I started playing, and all I did was kill people. I even had my special spots that I liked to go or methods; outside the hospital (in LC) either I liked to drive up and down the sidewalk or I liked to stand on that ledge of the building on it's right and shoot rockets at the cars. I even named this place, I called it death valley.

Also the place with the protestors! Where they all come running at you if you step into that one place. Had a great time with them.

First M rated game I played was Gun, and I was 16 at the time. Probably could've gotten it for myself if I waited 5 more months at that point.
User avatar #79 to #15 - ericbeagles (10/15/2013) [-]
I didn't, because my parents aren't ******* retarded

We bitch because the parents of those children complain, and try to get violent games banned from everyone who wants to play, back when we played, it wasnt like that for the most part, or at least as big of a problem as it is

plus 9 year olds with squeaky voices is very annoying, which is something we never had to deal with

is that so? let me remind you that Postal 2, Manhunt and GTA: SA came out just about 10 years ago, and there was a ********* over it, stirred up by concerned parents and attorneys like Jack Thompson, who was on his peak on that time..Postal 2 and Manhunt can easily make it on my top 3 list over the most ****** up violent games ever..Dont fool yourself by saying it was different back then. It was the same.

i'm not going to disagree with you, but they're getting a lot farther and much more attention now than they ever were, but you raise a good point good sir

I really don't care if kids play M rated games, just as long as they don't ******* talk in game

yeah and looked how we all turned out

I'm joking, but yeah, but I think diversity is important, violent games, gentle games, it's all about balance right?

I remember when i was 6 years old Vice city came out, it was the **** . I remember when my parents got me a new computer, because prior to that i had pentium I which only allowed me to play heroes 3 (i didn't know you could go into the next day for the first week of playing it, i would buy all the heroes i could, waste their energy and end the game). So, here i am, with a brand new computer and a brand new Vice City. My dad installs it, i start a new game, enter "professionaltools" and begin shooting all the people around me. My dad laughed and my mom said "oh my god" or something along those lines, but no one stopped me from playing it. Those were good times.

And did you become a violent murderous killer, as the media says?
User avatar #32 to #31 - tenfinnvo (10/15/2013) [-]
Thanks to the upbringing me beloved grandma gave me, I am not a violent murderous killer, I try to be a good person, say thanks to anyone who helped me in someway etc etc. My local imageboard sure gave me some disturbing fetishes, but I haven't been there for a couple of years already because it doesn't suit my personality and because it turned into **** .

I remember playing Grand Theft Auto Vice City with my dad when it first came out, (I was eight at the time), and he always had a philosophy of, "Eh, you're going to learn about it eventually, it's better that you're exposed to it earlier so you know the differences of what people are capable of." Granted, when I played with him we did the ambulance, police and taxi "mini" games together just to prove that there are good people too.

So, it's fine if a kid plays it, as long as they are mature enough to understand how people are and that they can provide some good.

Your dad sounds awesome, did exactly what my dad did.

He got me hooked on Zelda games though, we played through so much together.

As long as the parent makes sure to explain violent/adult things as they happen in a proper way, there's no problem watching / playing whatever you feel like - in my opinion at least.

Let's not forget Golden Eye.
User avatar #22 to #15 - mankey (10/15/2013) [-]
Yeah but we had to put some ******* effort into getting it in secret, playing it with the door locked, ready to switch the channel if our parents came in. Or going around "that friend"s house because he had it and you knew if your parents found out you'd get bollocked for it.

Playing GTA when we were kids meant you had to learn quick thinking, complex imagination, forward thinking. Time, effort and hard work were needed, not just a clueless parent. It taught us life lessons that would aid us in the future, it wasn't playing the game, it was all about getting there.
User avatar #17 to #15 - chexlemeneux (10/15/2013) [-]
My thinking is that kids see the same amount of sex and violence on TV and in theaters and hear the same language in the music they listen The reason video games are at the forefront of the debate is that they are the most popular form of entertainment for young people. Unfortunately, people forget that it is the parents job to decide what is acceptable for their children, but at the same time they have no right to demand that other parents follow their beliefs and vilify video games too.
#18 to #17 - senorfrog (10/15/2013) [-]
No, parents really don't give a **** . My first xbox game was halo and then the punisher, and the 2nd movie I saw was animal house. Parents just want their kids to like what they like or to shut up and leave them alone for awhile.
