I'm surprised, not bashing the series, but I would have thought that space ships would move faster. **** , 1050 km/h? That's nothing. Hell, the F-22 Raptor can hit 1500
#103 to #49 - John Cena (04/09/2014) [-]
also, to escape the gravity of a planet, you need a far greater speed, plus with the distances during a space battle etc. where you can't use hyperspace, 1000 km/h is essentially nothing, you be a terrifyingly easy target to smash.
#118 to #49 - John Cena (04/09/2014) [-]
to be fair, the book where these facts come from brings up mostly ******** . Stardestroyers hitting with Blasters at 80 kilometres, wrong weaponry on ships compared to other EU and so on..
#127 to #49 - John Cena (04/09/2014) [-]
The F-22 can hit 2,400 km/h, or 1500 mph because this is America. And don't you forget it.
User avatar #55 to #49 - djaelxs (04/09/2014) [-]
I'm 99% sure that means just in normal atmospheric conditions, and without hyperdrive on. That's a big ******* flying fortress. I'm surprised it goes supersonic, if only barely.
User avatar #87 to #55 - ryderjbudde (04/09/2014) [-]
Yeah, it wouldn't really make sense to say a ship has a top speed in space. I mean, without drag, I could reach speeds greater than the fastest jet just by flatulating for an indefinite amount of time. There is only one top speed in space, and, as long as something can accelerate indefinitely, it can approach it.

So, be 100% sure that that's what it means. Still doesn't make sense though, not all planets would have the same atmospheric conditions... Maybe we're overthinking this.
User avatar #164 to #87 - djaelxs (04/09/2014) [-]
Considering the planets had the proper atmospheric conditions to support life, it'd at least have similar atmospheric pressure and gases. I could be wrong. Don't quote me. But that's just my thought process.
User avatar #165 to #164 - ryderjbudde (04/10/2014) [-]
Life can exist in some pretty harsh places.
#106 to #55 - John Cena (04/09/2014) [-]
1050 km/h is not even supersonic. You need to go 1225 km/h to break the sound barrier.

Any reason why its named the Millennium Falcon?
#72 to #7 - John Cena (04/09/2014) [-]
Cause falcons are awesome an milenniums are long, so it'll be awesome for a long time.

Why do so many people make these comps that just copy things word for word off of their respective wikia sites, i literally read the millennium falcons article yesterday...
User avatar #147 to #146 - quotes (04/09/2014) [-]
cus im too lazy to go look it up
User avatar #162 to #146 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
why bitch about it? I mean people love these, and are usually too lazy to go check it out...I mean look at all these comments about the speed...I literally have been posting links, whenever i can, to the reason why it's KM per hour.

tl;dr: these are great summaries of a great series.

User avatar #6 to #5 - huntergriff (04/08/2014) [-]
i have.
User avatar #130 - dafuq (04/09/2014) [-]
Bro wtf, here you go again with this 1000km/h shit. Don't you understand that just over 1000km/h is nowhere near enough for space travel? Jesusfuck, it'd take you 300 hours to get to the moon with that speed man! What about between star systems then?!
User avatar #139 to #130 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
also that's why hyperspace/FTL travel is a thing.
User avatar #108 - eriktheviking (04/09/2014) [-]

psychadelicace, I love these comps, even though I have no idea about most of them since I haven't read the books (though you make me want to read them). Keep this up!

My Hurricane can take more damage, move faster and deals a helluva lot more.

Then again..it's almost 500M long and packs a full rack of 720mm artillery cannons.

But I have hit frigates under 3KM in orbit with it.
Boosters **** YEAH
srs bsns don't do drugs kids. They're bad for you.
User avatar #144 to #89 - smokingman (04/09/2014) [-]
I fly the big boy version, and it rocks.

Sleipnir forever.
User avatar #151 to #144 - thamuz ONLINE (04/09/2014) [-]
I can't fly Command Ships yet. I'm working to a Munin
User avatar #152 to #151 - smokingman (04/09/2014) [-]
I can fly those too, but I've never owned one.
The Vagabond is great, though, and HACs are all-round a really useful and versatile ship class.
User avatar #153 to #152 - thamuz ONLINE (04/09/2014) [-]
The Vaga seems like a frigate hunter. I live in W-Space a lot so I want something to smash stuff around with. I love my alpha.

Also working to a Loki.
User avatar #154 to #153 - smokingman (04/09/2014) [-]
Oh, you're in W-space?
I've been looking into moving to a nice wormhole for months, it seems a very exciting gameplay style.
You're with a corp or solo?
And since you use a Hurricane, is it a C1?
I've heard that people do those in BCs.
User avatar #155 to #154 - thamuz ONLINE (04/09/2014) [-]
C2 or 3 IRRC.

its great for paranoid people who scan D-scan every 5 seonds. Its my corp and my old corp in the same hole so we get together and run sites and stuff. I got all sorts of stuff in the hole. Gas mining is what I usually do.
#107 to #89 - exarzero (04/09/2014) [-]
Oh god eve... my nightmares... I got this little boat, and lost it the same day... never put all your gold in one pot kids... UNFORGIVING GAME. lol
User avatar #136 to #107 - thamuz ONLINE (04/09/2014) [-]
Ohhhh a Hyperion!

Was it a shiny fit? Or did you lose it in a mission??

My shiniest ship at the mooment is my Fed Navy Megathron or my Fleet Issue Tempest
User avatar #163 to #136 - exarzero (04/09/2014) [-]
I jumped a gate into 0.5 space, and a pocket of a various ships from the Arbitrary pirate destruction group got me good... plus podded.
#8 - John Cena (04/08/2014) [-]
1050km/h? Well that's slow. Voyager 2 does over 15.000km/s per second, not per hour which is over 50.000 times faster. Hell even jets go faster than that, a F22 can do over 2000km/h.
User avatar #86 to #8 - meganinja ONLINE (04/09/2014) [-]
That's the sublight speed. I think it's specifically the atmospheric sublight speed but I'm not sure.
User avatar #9 to #8 - huntergriff (04/08/2014) [-]
you should take into account the fact that whenever they were making star wars, they weren't concerned with the realistic **** like speed and whatnot, only in universe facts such as the milennium falcon being the fastest ship in the galaxy.
#11 to #9 - John Cena (04/08/2014) [-]
Of course and in general I don't care (I love star wars) but 1050? Couldn't they say something more star wars like like in parsec/hour or something (although parsecs are used as time in star wars so it might be confusing)
User avatar #40 to #11 - wthree (04/08/2014) [-]
The parsec thing is because "speed" in the star wars universe is more based around the finding the fastest route by reducing the distance, rather than increasing the speed.
User avatar #12 to #11 - huntergriff (04/08/2014) [-]
actually, parsecs are used as distance. and i'm pretty sure the KM/H thing is for in atmosphere, since this is a thing starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Megalight
User avatar #2 - huntergriff (04/08/2014) [-]
You could get a millenium falcon used for 25,000 credits, new would have been 100,000 credits.
Basically in the star wars universe it cost between $25,000, and $100,000.
User avatar #38 to #2 - wthree (04/08/2014) [-]
What?
#43 to #38 - huntergriff (04/08/2014) [-]
what do you mean what?
what do you mean what?
#45 to #43 - ecalycptus (04/08/2014) [-]
How can you be sure that a credit = 1$?
How can you be sure that a credit = 1$?
User avatar #69 to #45 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
in fact according to this www.moneyinadvance.co.uk/sci-fi-currency-converter/ , it's actually 1 USD = .99 credits, so I just rounded up.
User avatar #48 to #45 - huntergriff (04/08/2014) [-]
it honestly depends on what you go by. plus you have to factor in inflation and **** .
User avatar #160 to #43 - wthree (04/09/2014) [-]
How can you buy a new millennium falcon?
User avatar #161 to #160 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
>Basically in the star wars universe it cost between $25,000, and $100,000.

#67 to #2 - darkvanguard (04/09/2014) [-]
Maybe they don't have inflation?
User avatar #68 to #67 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
they do actually, they mention it in star wars: Bloodlines.

Honestly it depends on what you go by, since it varies from author to author.
#79 to #68 - darkvanguard (04/09/2014) [-]
Trying to compare a fictional currency to real currency is kind of silly. It's one of those realms of fiction that it's best not to think too hard about.
User avatar #81 to #79 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
apparently, someone figured it out a while ago based on the menus seen in dex's diner in episode II.

www.moneyinadvance.co.uk/sci-fi-currency-converter/
#82 to #81 - darkvanguard (04/09/2014) [-]
That's actually pretty neat. It makes sense that a story written in the U.S. would have a currency based on U.S. currency. Same reason as why English is called Galactic Basic
User avatar #83 to #82 - huntergriff (04/09/2014) [-]
yeah, i thought it was neat too.
