>Using PPP as a measure of wealth

Basically saying that they're so poor that they're rich. Which makes absolutely no sense when looking at a global scale.
User avatar #60 to #56 - dangler (18 hours ago) [-]
PPP is what you look at when deciding where to buy a house, not in determining the wealth of nations.
User avatar #61 to #60 - meganinja (17 hours ago) [-]
Yes. The gap between rich and poor countries using PPP is very significantly lowered because PPP is based on cost of living. If you live in a poor nation your cost of living will be low. Therefore, you're going to have a higher PPP. It's literally paradoxical to use when comparing the difference in wealth between two nations.
User avatar #84 to #61 - YllekNayr (15 hours ago) [-]
Aren't you agreeing with dangler? Why are people thumbing him down and those same people are thumbing you up?

User avatar #8 to #6 - severepwner (01/11/2016) [-]
The giant ass robot which is far more powerful than an army of synths is far more dangerous.

The giant ass robot is controlled by an organization that is killing everyone around them they don't approve of. I think that's a lot worse than a synth that just wants to live in your town in peace away from the Institute.
#31 to #8 - icanhasaccount ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
giant ass robot controlled by organization which pretty much hates 90% of the people in the wasteland and brands them **** without appeal

scientific progress requires sacrifice and questionable decisions
#53 to #18 - anon (19 hours ago) [-]
Chiki's got a point. It's no different than what Vault-Tec was doing. If sacrificing a relative handful of people can save the future and give everyone happy and safe lives, then you are morally obligated to sacrifice those people.

Otherwise the horrors that await the future is on your head, and their blood is on your hands. You could have stopped it. It's like the question about going back in time and killing Hitler as a kid. Yes you do it, don't be a pansy.
User avatar #101 to #53 - sptnfouroneseven ONLINE (11 hours ago) [-]
I'm not saying they're inherently bad honestly. They have a good message, and 'morals' most of the time. Fallout 4 is a sea of Gray Morality and that's what I like it. No one faction is 'good' or without fault. The closest one you get to 'good' is the Minutemen.
User avatar #13 to #9 - mortolife (01/11/2016) [-]
There's a lot more that makes the institute "bad" than the Gen 3 synths revolting, friend.

User avatar #25 - heartbleed ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
I went institute, I figure with my character as the head co-ordinator, I could stop the body snatching, gut the SRB, and stop production of the gen 3's (or at least remove the 'human-ness' of them) and open up a bit to the wasteland, share the technology, try to make a better world. There we go, problem solved.
#30 to #25 - icanhasaccount ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
same
plus minutemen are not given the shaft by that ending
....though i'm not truly getting there yet i'm just playing and keeping them all friendly until i do every single misc quest out there
User avatar #28 to #25 - lapsushominum ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
I kinda thought of that as a rationalization too. Institute morally might not be good right now but theoretically I could use it to make things better even if the game doesn't say I could.
User avatar #29 to #28 - brokentrucker ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
The ideal route would be to do all of the above. You easily prove yourself as a fly in Maxson's ear, you become head of the Institute, negating the need for the Railroad, and the leader of the Minutemen. Rather than nuking anybody, you should just have everyone come together and hold hands.

No more xenophobic knights running around. No more synth shenanigans. No more secret agent wannabes. And epic awesome militia whooping raider/super mutant ass with the help of Institute tech combined with Brotherhood knights.

But, no. We gotta kill errybody.
#45 to #29 - ashendashin (21 hours ago) [-]
The only one that's not completely necessary to kill off is the railroad
The minutemen stick around regardless of anything you do
The BoS allowing another faction to continue advancing in tech with previously shown recklessness? Not happening
User avatar #2 - protectorofjam (01/10/2016) [-]
According to Maxson, anything approved by Elder Lyons was against the Brotherhoods main purpose, and that his ruling was a "weak" time in the Brotherhoods history.
User avatar #19 to #2 - recoveryone ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
Maxson still adheres to some of Lyon's ideals, such as having a better relation with the civilian population(supply runs and trading within Diamond city, even Brotherhood Flags being displayed) and more recruiting from outside the Brotherhood(The Sole Survivor for example).
#32 to #19 - icanhasaccount ONLINE (01/11/2016) [-]
they state that recruitment from outside is an exception regarding the Sole Survivor though
#44 to #32 - ashendashin (21 hours ago) [-]
Danse was also recruited. Yup the Sole Survivor definitely isn't an exception
Open recruitment is a thing
#42 to #32 - ashendashin (21 hours ago) [-]
I thought scribe haylen said she joined up with the brotherhood?
User avatar #89 to #32 - CAPSEDDIE (15 hours ago) [-]
thats not true. The no-legs lady specifically says that they bring in groups of wastelanders as recruits if you ask her about it
#98 to #89 - icanhasaccount ONLINE (14 hours ago) [-]
you are right i rechecked
#34 to #32 - anon (23 hours ago) [-]
Because you haven't actually gone through the normal recruiting process, you just killed a ton of zombies. You aren't born into the brotherhood anymore.
Danse being a synth kind of attests to that
User avatar #74 - strangemoo (16 hours ago) [-]
Is there a "Not-siding with anyone but yourself" ending like there was in New Vegas?
Cuz I've just been kinda focusing on building my settlement and collecting armor and weapons.

So far it seems like the closest is the Minutemen.
Oh and by the way, theres a settlement that needs our help.
User avatar #83 to #74 - storyofmark (15 hours ago) [-]
There isn't. You side with one of the factions. I also agree and think that the minutemen is the closest to an independant Boston.

I found the Minutemen to be the least fun faction to be a part of. It's mostly taking settlements until Preston tells you to go do other stuff.
User avatar #82 to #74 - kimom (15 hours ago) [-]
The minute men are the not siding with anyone, theyre your group. Theyre also the only group that are strictly good guys.
#66 - anon (16 hours ago) [-]
well the whole point of the brotherhood is not to destroy technology, its to limit it and control it so it never gets to the point it was at before the war again (the nukes and all). They straight up tell you that multiple times
User avatar #77 to #66 - chikibriki (16 hours ago) [-]
they're using a giant ******* robot to mow down anything that stands in their way

User avatar #59 to #58 - jaevel ONLINE (18 hours ago) [-]
Neither is the technology that the institute has.
User avatar #79 to #59 - battletechmech (16 hours ago) [-]
having your synths go AWOL more often then in Blade Runner is not what I call checked.
User avatar #78 to #59 - alstorp (16 hours ago) [-]
Using technology to murder innocent people isn't really what I would call checked.
User avatar #87 to #78 - brobyddark (15 hours ago) [-]
If you're using it to knowingly kill people, then its checked. If it is killing people without your knowing, it is unchecked.
User avatar #90 to #87 - alstorp (15 hours ago) [-]
To keep something in check means to keep something correct, what they are doing it not morally correct, which is the subject since it's what the BoS are trying to achieve, moral correctness.
User avatar #92 to #90 - brobyddark (14 hours ago) [-]
Usually, keeping something in-check means to keep it out of civilian hands. If something is unchecked, then EVERYONE can get at it.

Anyways, morals in the Fallout universe don't work the same as they do here. To them, they are morally correct in using any lethal force necessary to keep dangerous technology out of the hands of non-Brotherhood. To them, they are keeping it in-check and will use the technology sparingly, like with Liberty Prime. I haven't played Fallout 4 yet, so I don't know their deal there.
User avatar #97 to #92 - alstorp (14 hours ago) [-]
Mmm, no keeping something in check means to keep in control, it's morally uncontrolled top murder innocents with technology, that doesn't have anything to do with civilians, and The Institute are certainly not civilians, not even in the eyes of the BoS.

Their reasoning is that it's morally wrong for the institute to use technology in that manner. Of course, but the BoS perspective of morals is the only perspective that matters here, since we're discussing the BoS view on the dangers of technology.
User avatar #65 to #59 - ishallsmiteyou (16 hours ago) [-]
Well idunno, the BoS isn't really known for razing entire towns for no reason.

#49 to #48 - anon (20 hours ago) [-]

its the free will they dont' like. they fully believe these robots have free will, and deny the **** outta it and kill them because they fear it. At least thats what i've gathered from playing. Besides, lets be fair, no one hates Liberty Prime, except for those damn Communists!

**daiemio rolled image**This is LARGELY grossed over, Gen 1 synths were more related to robots then people, gen 2 has some skin, and could with enough clothing blend in, Gen 3's are made PIECE BY PIECE, to be as close as human as possible.

aye guys, I just got fallout and don't get the brotherhood's whole deal. why do they keep saying they want to purge everyone?
User avatar #40 to #37 - xoyv ONLINE (21 hours ago) [-]
they want to horde technology because "TECH MAKES NUKES!!!"
User avatar #47 to #40 - thesovereigngrave (21 hours ago) [-]
Well the original goal was more along the lines of keeping advanced tech out of the hands of tribals and their ilk to protect people. I mean, could you imagine what would've happened if a gang of raiders had found out and got their hands on the orbital laser from New Vegas? But the modern Brotherhood have taken things to the absolute extreme; personally I think Roger Maxson would be ashamed of what his ancestor has/is doing on the East Coast.
#95 to #47 - anon (14 hours ago) [-]
Ancestor would imply Arthur is somehow older than Roger. You may have been thinking of the term descendant.
User avatar #99 to #95 - thesovereigngrave (14 hours ago) [-]
Whoops, yeah. Wrong word there.
#46 to #37 - ashendashin (21 hours ago) [-]
They don't like it when technology goes unchecked
They want to purge super mutants, ghouls and synths
Super mutants because they're a huge force of incredibly dangerous products of FEV experiments that also ****** them up in certain ways
Ghouls because ******* ferals are goddamn EVERYWHERE
Synths because the institute pumps so many of them and they're way too human like and just keep getting improved
#23 - malifauxdeux (01/11/2016) [-]
Until the institute hacks Liberty Prime and blows those arrogant pricks out of the sky.

I'm still pissed off you don't get a chance to convince the institute of their own brilliance in creating free-willed machines. Seems like the best course of action to me
User avatar #64 - blackoutonetwotwo (16 hours ago) [-]
Well, the Institute gave the beauty of humanity to those undead Synthetics.
Perhaps if they stayed robot like, there would have been less controversy and salt.
