Someone explained that in the book (which goes far more in depth than a movie or TV can ever hope for) the witch kept her word and attempted to heal him with magic and whatnot but she knew Drogo would ignore her warnings like when a doctor says no more fatty foods so Drogo kinda did it to himself by not paying attention to the person who he just attempted to conquer.
