Sir Patrick just married a hot woman half his age.
For this joke to work they could have spent 10 seconds on google and find McKellen's knighting.
User avatar #35 to #12 - ruebezahl (10/22/2013) [-]
Not to mention that McKellen probably would have had a good laugh about it.
#3 - jeffiepete (10/21/2013) [-]
If you're going to do this joke I'm sure you could find a picture when she knighted Elton John or Ian McKellen.

i was thinking that too. patrick stewart may have to engage his foot up OP's ass now.

am i the only one that wonders why famous english actors are always dubbed by the queen? like what the **** did they do to deserve such a prestigious award, make the queen giggle her dentures out?
User avatar #45 to #30 - mads (10/22/2013) [-]
As well as their acting and singing most of the people who are knighted have also done other things like charity work. That is why they get given knighthoods, not just because of their acting.
User avatar #56 to #30 - mitchr (10/22/2013) [-]
Well, hey, that's why Sir Terry Pratchett was knighted, right?
User avatar #34 to #30 - honestchap (10/22/2013) [-]
With their acting they have brought joy and inspiration to countless of their subjects, improving the image of Britain as a whole, and it's important that the monarch recognises their achievements. They didn't just stick a wig on and make fart jokes, they made thousands of people laugh, cry and adore them with their performances, and they've been humble.

More to the point it's their work alone that gains them the title, they have writers behind them but at the end of the day it's the actors' performances that capture our minds, they're not just the face of a group of people who perhaps saved the economy. Their work may be more valuable in the long run, but it's the work of dozens of individuals, whom cannot all be knighted or we'd have sirs coming out of our ears.

Long story short, they're great men who have been chosen to represent the UK, and better that than two-faced bankers.
User avatar #39 to #34 - honestchap (10/22/2013) [-]
Also as far as I know, Sir Patrick Stewart isn't gay.

Tbh, I think the whole knighthood thing's got out of hand. It's thrown about far too much and has begun to become meaningless.

I mean, awarding one to Bradley Wiggins after winning the Tour de France was just ludicrous. I accept that he's a wonderful athlete, and I'm not taking anything away from his achievements but winning 1 race doesn't entitle you to knighthood in my books.

A knighthood, if given to sporting stars/actors/entertainers etc. should in my book be based on their lifetime instead of just what they've done recently.

Ian Botham is the perfect example to me. He was a wonderful cricketer who single handedly won England the Ashes on multiple occasions. After his career finished he used his name and standing in society to create these charity walks which have raised millions of pounds for charity, much of which he's donated himself.

Therefore, he is very much entitled to his knighthood as he has given a huge amount to a massive number of people over a number of years.

I mean, how can you justify giving a knighthood off the back of one event when there are scores of doctors/nurses/teachers/engineers/manufacturers giving so much by working overtime to save lives/educate the youth/provide infrastructure for the future/create jobs who don't get recognised.

Pic highly unrelated.

I'm British and I don't get it. I'm confused by the queen part. There's one "queen" and then there's Elizabeth II, but there's one man and one woman in the picture?
User avatar #8 to #7 - douthit (10/22/2013) [-]
In America, "queen" can be used as a slang word for a homosexual male.

I never want to be knighted. Somehow, I find it difficult to trust people when they have a sword an inch away from my carotid artery.
User avatar #61 to #48 - thegrimgenius (10/22/2013) [-]
