They don't only grant wishes to kid with a 100% chance of death.
Kids with cancer, leukemia or other diseases that have a high chance of killing them are eligible for make-a-wish.

I had leukemia when I was 12 and I got a wish.
User avatar #20 to #19 - jettom ONLINE (08/06/2015) [-]
That's really cool! What was your wish?
User avatar #21 to #20 - daftiduck (08/06/2015) [-]
I never actually used it.
I was having treatment for the better part of 5 years, so that ruled out going on a special holiday, and by the time I was all clear I was 17 and there really wasn't anything I wanted to do.
If I was younger, I probably would've done the generic Disney World trip or something, but with being 17, all the stuff I wanted to do was too expensive so I just left it.

Actual cool story from a total bro
User avatar #23 to #21 - jettom ONLINE (08/06/2015) [-]
That's really Honorable of you. Many people would abuse that, and not once consider it'd be expensive. You're a selfless guy.
#47 to #23 - anon (08/07/2015) [-]
not too expensive its just the program doesn't cover that much expense
User avatar #71 to #47 - novus (08/07/2015) [-]
then.... then dicks to you for having such outlandish fantasies!
User avatar #96 to #71 - daftiduck (08/07/2015) [-]
Honestly, that's pretty accurate. 17 is the legal driving age in England, so my first thought was "I wonder if the wish foundation would buy me my first car" but that would've been around £10'000 and I knew they wouldn't have paid that so I just said **** it.
And besides, over the 5 years, I was put on disabled benefits because the chemo made my legs sore the benefits system is so unfair and I accumulated £8'000 so I can just get a car with that.
User avatar #48 to #21 - maxismahname (08/07/2015) [-]

There's no such thing as a 100% chance of death, though. Unless you count in the very very long term.

Pancreatic cancer has more than a 70% kill rate.

But for the other 30%... they live. And nobody knows if they're in the percentage that lives or dies, unless of course you don't have insurance in a country that makes insurance a necessity for healthcare. Then you're most likely gonna die. But there's always a chance. Always.
#92 to #63 - xxmemosxx (08/07/2015) [-]
What about decapitation? That has 100% death rate
User avatar #104 to #92 - elcreepo (08/07/2015) [-]
I meant in terms of illnesses and diseases. But nice joke.
User avatar #94 to #92 - dovnborg (08/07/2015) [-]
I dont think we grant wishes to kids diagnosed with decapitation
#95 to #94 - xxmemosxx (08/07/2015) [-]

User avatar #28 to #2 - mrwalkerfour (08/06/2015) [-]
in fact its better for those who are facing a high chance of death, such a wish could help their emotional state, which helps them deal with the treatment better.

I love Make a Wish

Our goalie was dying from his second go round with cancer. He still came to our games and was with the team the whole time in the locker rooms and giving just as much **** as he ever did and was a bright spot to everyone around him.

Make a Wish sent him on a guided Elk hunt to Idaho with his best friend (my defensive partner) and it was just the greatest week ever for the both of them. Within a year, we lost that little ****** . He was buried with his goalie mask and spent cartridge from the 6x6 elk he shot, as he requested from hospice. That dude was happy and strong in the face of death all the way to and past the end. Thank you Make a Wish for doing something amazing for an amazing person who gave back more to the people in his life than anyone could ever think possible

Is it just me or do all the "wishes" seem super do-able.

Like nothing cool, like going into space or across the world.

It's like "YOU GET AN ALL EXPENSE PAID TRIP TO A 4 STAR HOTEL IN NEW MEXICO! Happy cancer!"

**daemonicdemeanor rolled image**I knew a guy in high school who got to go on a Cruise from make a wish. He had some kind of cancer, but it went into remission. After he was done with cancer, he gained a little weight. He started working out and eating right. He studied nutrition, and after he got his degree, he joined the marines. So basically the bald, sickly kid; whom everyone thought would die any day, turned into a ******* killing machine with abs like Leonidas. What the **** do they do on these cruise ships?

This happens a lot actually. Had a friend as a kid who wasn't supposed to make it to 14 years old. At age 12 he got to meet Marianas Trench. Was given like 1000$ in dj equipment cause he loves music. His 22nd birthday is this month

He cheated the system. He wished not to die. Most kids ask for something, but never think to ask of not dying.
