I've been experimenting with FL Studio for about a year now and this is one of my first attempts at a full length song. It hasn't been remastered or anything yet (mainly because I have no idea how to yet) but I would love some instructive criticism from the FJ community.

Is good.
If anything, I'd say it sounds a little too generic. You might wanna try something to make it a little different? Not sure what though.
Honestly, I think it would be great if this would be played during a good'ol DJ admin party
User avatar #4 to #3 - damitfel [OP]ONLINE (01/29/2015) [-]
Well after listening to it over and over again I kind of lose track of whether or not I'm being too repetitive, because it all sounds repetitive to me. But I think I could go through and mix up the lead melody a bit. But thanks for the feedback!
User avatar #5 to #4 - xxdarkdanxx (01/29/2015) [-]
Yeah, I know that feeling of having to listen to your own work over and over.
Seriously though, I like it. Listening to it again as I work.
User avatar #7 to #5 - damitfel [OP]ONLINE (01/29/2015) [-]
I've put a good 20 hours of work into this. Having said that, a lot of top notch songs of this genre I've heard artists put in 100+ hours of effort into, so its far from finished haha
User avatar #9 to #7 - xxdarkdanxx (01/29/2015) [-]
Well then imma definitely want to heard it when it is

By no means I understand this style of music, but I will give you this:
It's pretty good for a first attempt, sounds a little intro-like, may be some kind of a drop would break the vibe.
#327 to #40 - garebizzle (01/30/2015) [-]
Definitely right, it sounds like the intro to a pretty sick Trance album. Think Tiesto's In Search of Sunrise series.
User avatar #41 to #40 - damitfel [OP]ONLINE (01/29/2015) [-]
Thanks for the feedback, I really do appreciate it! And I agree with you, I'll most likely include a drop in the final product. I'm still working a lot on the drums and sound effects, I kind of just threw them on there just so I could get a feel for the song haha
User avatar #234 to #41 - wimwam ONLINE (01/29/2015) [-]
If I may add my two cents- I feel like a lot of songs have that. This is a smoother sort of music, which IMHO doesn't need a drop. You've done a great job.
User avatar #643 to #234 - thepizzadevourer (01/30/2015) [-]
>>#234, >>#41, Agreed, maybe a breakdown would work better? I dunno, but if you want to make it unique I'd say a bass drop is just about the opposite of what you want to do, that's practically standard nowadays.
#681 to #643 - Googol (01/30/2015) [-]
I'm quite against the idea of a bass drop as well. This doesn't sound like hardcore, dirty dubstep, which I, and apparently others, believe is overdone amongst new and aspiring EDM artists, but more of an easy listening type of EDM. deadmau5 is an EDM artist with a seemingly similar style, and I, for one, greatly appreciate his music. There sound to be almost cultural vibes to this track, and that's one of the main attractive features to me (it doesn't sound completely generic), as that's an underrepresented type of electronic music, in my honest opinion, so I'd keep it sounding as it is, but that's just me, but from the thumbs on the comment supporting a drop, it looks like most people like overdone.
User avatar #693 to #41 - gorginhanson (02/05/2015) [-]
OP do you have any other songs
#243 to #41 - austinpowerz (01/29/2015) [-]
I think vocals at around 2:45 would make and unexpected and interesting change, maybe accompany it with a change in drums or a bassier melody.
User avatar #173 to #41 - dalnoeh (01/29/2015) [-]
i listen to a lot of electronic music, and i would agree that a drop would be a good idea... also if you're adding one you might wanna shorten the build-up

I actually really like this.

I've always been a sucker for this type of music, with the happy/mellow/uplifting beats/vibes.

Pretty solid work, I look forward to hearing more stuff from you.

(Don't suppose there's a link to download it? Would like to listen to it while editing/gaming. FJ won't let me for some reason).
User avatar #561 to #153 - mablemoox (01/30/2015) [-]
could you recommend some more songs like this?
i like this type of music im just not good at finding the good stuff
User avatar #682 to #561 - DremoraValkynaz (01/30/2015) [-]
Well, that's all in the eye of the beholder (I suppose in this case, ear? hehe). What I like, you could dislike and vice versa, but I'l throw a few of my favourite types of electronic chill/uplifting tracks (These could branch off into sub genres: Drum and Bass, etc and may even deviate away from OP's style, but these are pretty much all chill/uplifting within the universe of electronics). Most are instrumentals, some have vocals in between and some have vocals throughout.

Eh, I wouldn't see the point in downloading a video file just to listen to a track. Sure, I could just extract the audio from the video and save it as an MP3, but its just easier for the OP to send me the original audio track, which he has done.

At the end of it all, it's done and dusted.

needs lots more bass, offensive lyrics, some variety in the beat and shorter intro/ faster tempo.

I definitely agree with you on the more variety in the beat. The drum part was something I just threw together kind of and was planning on getting back to it. But thanks! I'm taking all of these comments into consideration!

>Music Scholar here

What I liked
- 6/4 time signature. Not used often, but really well executed here
-Your samples all fit the character well. good choices
-phrasing was great, for the most part
-You kept things pretty simple. It never got cluttered or too much to listen to

Instructive Criticism
-Change up the progression. The same 4 chords over and over gets to be too much
-Keep your phrasing consistent as far as layering pace goes. You had some layers added every phrase, some every 2 and some every 4 etc. Keep your pacing consistent or it becomes hard to attach to. thats no to say 'be predictable' but don't be distracting in your pace
-Give more time for build and study a bit more on build elements. Your clap/snare on all 6 beats right when it entered begged for a bigger build that never happened. perhaps don't start with a 6 beat snare there or give it a build, or add another rhythm instrument in conjunction with the snare to spread the focus off of the snare, moving into a build.

Overall, this is a great result, and id love to hear a mastered version.

Its very good but needs something more. Possibly sounds like the beginning to some type of progressive dance song.

Thanks! I'll be working on it a bunch over the weekend, and I'm taking all opinions into consideration!
