Now imagine if the prison system turned people into productive members of society instead of repeat criminals

Well he didn't commit any other crime as far as we know of.
User avatar #24 to #22 - ondeca ONLINE (12/09/2015) [-]
The way you put presume presume all of us are criminals untill proven, since "we don't know".

But in reality it's the way round : Nobody is a criminal untill proven.
User avatar #25 to #24 - abesimpson (12/09/2015) [-]
It's not a crime unless you get caught
User avatar #26 to #25 - ondeca ONLINE (12/09/2015) [-]
It is still a crime if you don't get cought. However there's a big difference between

A (or any) citizen is guilty unless proven innocent.
A (or any) citizen is innocent untill proven guilty.
User avatar #30 to #26 - abesimpson (12/09/2015) [-]
1) "it's not a crime unless you get a caught" is a common joke phrase between criminals.

2) I have a feeling you don't quite understand what I mean by "or atleast any crime that we know of" and I'm guessing there's some kind of language barrier or something. I'm not accusing him of anything and it was more of a joke.

How can I accuse someone of being guilty for a crime that I did not know if it took place or not?

I wish it were really that way. But people don't like being wrong, so even if you're innocent, people will still call you that guy who shot Mrs. Robinson. You can argue, you can disprove it in court, but your chances of a good reputation are ****** .
I know this isn't the best example, but I could only think of OJ Simpson. He was "proven" innocent in court, yet he's still treated like a criminal. I know there's hardly a doubt he did it. However, if someone's acquitted, then stop calling him evil in the press.
Okay yeah, that was pretty much the worst example I could've chosen. But you guys know what I'm saying.
User avatar #48 to #22 - donatelo (12/09/2015) [-]
yea but i wouldnt be surprised if he got "scared straight". knowing that you are wanted makes one lay low.
User avatar #2 - immatakeaduty (12/08/2015) [-]
Fun fact: They arrested him in 2013 to serve the 13 year sentence. Afetr media outrage and discovering the victim didn't even believe he belonged in prison, he sat just about 10 months before his release.

Also, he was arrested in 2014 for a crime caught on camera, but it was later discovered he could not have committed the crime, and charges were dropped.
User avatar #65 to #2 - failtolawl (12/09/2015) [-]
doesn't the victim have to press charges for that or is armed robbery an immediate arrest?

Also makes me wonder why the victim doesn't want him to go to prison.
#67 to #65 - icouldgetsome (12/09/2015) [-]
"Press charges" is a layterm. it's more useful to think of it as, "is the victim willing to show up to court and testify?" You most often see it in domestic violence situations, where there's only one other witness, or family members might not be willing to testify after the tensions have calmed. As soon as any crime is reported, the police will forward it to the District Attorney. The DA will then determine whether they can prove it. So even if the 7/11 clerk refuses to testify, or to "press charges," they will still prosecute using the store video, or other witnesses, e.g.
#11 to #2 - sexuality ONLINE (12/09/2015) [-]
Woah, okay, reading your second statement sounds like he got caught committing a crime on camera, but then it was discovered it couldn't possibly be him. Which, in my head, makes me think he used CGI or something.

But what really happened is he got accused, and fingered obligatory kek by an eyewitness and the victim. His wife found a video of him at the party he was claiming as his alibi, and that lead to the charges being dropped.

Both are lucky, but the version I interpreted from your story was way luckier (in my mind) than the real event.
User avatar #19 to #2 - donatelo (12/09/2015) [-]
Take this with a grain of salt, since im not sure if its the same case (but it sounds too similar) the reason why there was outrage was because that time he wasnt in prison he was basically a porductive member of society.
User avatar #40 to #19 - ilcecchino (12/09/2015) [-]
i could see it. prison is a punishment. if someone told me i was going to pirson for 13 years. and then forgot. the scare and shock of them forgetting would basically set me straight and i'd try everything i could to NOT get arrested because i already dodged one bullet.
#50 to #40 - anon (12/09/2015) [-]
prison can be viewed as a punishment, to many it is a way of keeping society safe from criminals, and to others it is a place of rehabilitation for reentry to society. In a small way it is all three (except it's terrible at rehab), he may have slipped through the cracks with the punishment, but if he is rehabilitated and safe, then punishing him is just kindof excessive.
#49 to #19 - kanyesfishsticks (12/09/2015) [-]

He was out on bail awaiting an appeal. The appeal was denied before he went before a judge due to a clerical issue. He never saw the inside of a court again, and received no more demands to do so.
He took it as a blessing and began doing great things for his community and only got found out when the prison supposed to be housing him was marked to release him.

Anderson was convicted of armed robbery in 2000 and sentenced to 13 years in the Missouri state prison system.[1] Shortly after his conviction he was released on bail pending the outcome of an appeal of his conviction.[1] In May 2002, his appeal was rejected[2] but, due to a clerical error, his bond was not revoked when a warrant was issued for his arrest.[1] It was unclear why he was not arrested and imprisoned to serve his 13-year sentence, but, apparently due to clerical errors and miscommunication, the Missouri Department of Corrections thought he was already in prison.[3] The error was only discovered when he was scheduled to be released from prison in 2013.[1][3] en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornealious_Michael_Anderson_III

Looks legit Except he should clearly be up to 11 on the luck-o-meter

I tried a character with similar stats, put it on Survival difficulty, and made him wear only clothes No power armour, no normal armour, not even a ******* helmet.
Don't remember exact stats, but had 1 luck, 1 agility, and invested my points in Charisma and Perception instead
Every second is hell. Haven't even made it to Diamond City yet. It took me an hour to kill one ******* Protectron. I'm fairly sure there's a whole new wing of Video Game Heaven, just filled with clones of that character. I don't think I died this many times in Ninja Gaiden.

He was out for so long without getting in trouble. Prison is meant to punish undesirable elements of society. He is no longer an undesirable element of society and putting him in prison would potentially change that.

Thus he was released in 2014 the judge saying pretty much what I said.

i once hear some guy was caught stealing after he broke a store window and took some stuff, his defense in court was that HE did not steal those items his left arm did. the judge thought he was being funny and ordered his left arm to serve a jail term (cant remember how long). he said "ok" took off his prosthetic arm left it and went home. it was in america and the judge already hit the hammer or whatever and it was final.
i have no source for this but i heard it in a law class where every tuesday he would tell us crazy things that actually happened in law, so it's supposedly true.

Fallout 4's perk system works a bit differently from the previous games, where the perks are based off of your S.P.E.C.I.A.L. score right off the bat, meaning you could put points into the perk that needs 10 luck right away, and if you find a bobblehead at 10 points, you get a max of 11 points.

You know the answer to that? Be so far away that the 1% chance you have to hit becomes 100% with a crit, and stealth crit that Primus/Deathclaw If it wasn't already easy as balls doing so once you know how to work the stealth system. so hard that the Cryo damage on your weapon only serves to make the corpse do pretty ballerina spins across the landscape. I mean... You DO realize the Special Ops books give you a PERMANENT buff to stealth, right? And I wouldn't be preaching this **** if I wasn't level 79 with the build and guaranteeing victory 95% of the time... Wait no I cashed in a crit, 100% bitch.
User avatar #74 to #73 - heartlessrobot (12/10/2015) [-]

User avatar #75 to #74 - Thundergod (12/10/2015) [-]
Alright, and I'm supposed to care... Why? This wasn't a dickwaving contest, bibs asked if you can do well with a Luck build, and I replied with a resounding YES. Whether or not there are builds that are better or worse is irrelevant, a Luck build can and will thrive in the Commonwealth with the proper perk placement and usage of the You're Special book and Bobbleheads to be even BETTER.
