Remember that Lovecraft Comp I made a while back? Well here is a new one since you liked it so much. Keep in mind I still haven't actually read any of Lovecraft's work yet.

If you are unfamiliar with the Cthulhu mythos, you should know these terms:
Great Old Ones: Ancient deities that once ruled the earth, but has since fallen into a death-like sleep.
Outer Gods: Cosmic entities, influencing Earth from beyond space and maybe even time.

Dagon
Ruler of the Deep Ones

In the depths of the ocean there is a race of fish-like, amphibious humanoids known as Deep Ones. This race is lorded over by a Great Old One appearing as a giant Deep One known as Dagon, who rules together with his consort Hydra. Cthulhu also plays a role here, together with Dagon and Hydra forming the triad of gods that the Deep Ones worship.

Like many of the others, Dagon was worshiped by secret cults, most notably the Esoteric Order of Dagon based in the (fictional) town of Innsmouth. For worshipping him, the people of Innsmouth was blessed with prosperity in the form of fish and gold. They would however need to perform human sacrifices, and bring women for the Deep Ones to mate with, creating hybrids. These hybrids looked perfectly human for the first part of their lives, but in adult age would slowly transform into Deep Ones, and then join their brethern in the sea and live eternal.

**************
The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young

Possibly the most extensively worshipped of all the lovecraftian deities, worshipped by a number of different cults, both human and non-human. ************** is an Outer God that has never actually been described, but is frequently mentioned or called upon in incantations. She is closely connected to the phrase "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young", though there are evidence that the Black Goat is a sepperate entity, being reffered to as a "he" while ************** is a "she", among other things.

The Thousand Young or The Dark Young of ************** , are tall, pitch black, tentacle beings with a tree-like apperance. They dwell in woodlands where their mother’s cults are active, acting as proxies for ************** , as well as spreads her faith across the worlds, and devours non-cultists. They can be called upon deep in woodlands under a new moon. In cases where ************** deems a worshipper most worthy, she herself will be called upon to devour the person, and then regurgitate them as a satyr-like creature blessed with eternal life. These blessed ones are given the name
"gof'nn hupadgh ************** ".

Atlach-Nacha
The Spider God

A giant spider with an almost human face. Atlach-Nacha is a Great Old One that dwell in a huge cavern deep beneath Mount Voormithadreth, a mountain in what used to be a great kingdom called Hyperborea in the Arctic. Here it spins a great web between our world and the Dreamlands, a world that is normally accessed only through dreams, and which are home to many great races that only exist there. Once complete, the web will form a bridge between the worlds, which is believed to be the end of ours.

Ubbo-Sathla
The Unbegotten Source, The Demiurge

An Outer God in the form of a giant protoplasmic mass that rests in a grotto deep beneth the frozen earth. Ubbo-Sathla is said to have spawned the prototype to all of Earth’s life, and is still spontaneously generating primordial single-celled organisms that pour unceasingly from its shapeless form. Ubbo-Sathla does however take away the life of everything it’s pseudopods touches, and will one day reabsorb all life on earth.

Ubbo-Sathla is also the guardian of a set of stone tablets that contain the knowlege of the Outer Gods. Many sorcerers have sought to claim them, but none have succeeded.

Ithaqua
The Wind-Walker

A Great Old One that walks the Arctic and the Sub-Arctic, where he first encountered the Native Americans and inspired their tales of the Wendigo. Ithaqua is a giant with a roughly human shape and glowing red eyes, and who can control snow, ice and cold, and can walk on air like it’s solid ground. He prowls the Arctic waste where he hunts down unwary travelers and brutally kills them.

Ithaqua’s cult is small, but some people in Alaska and Siberia give him sacrifices out of fear, hoping to appease him so that he will leave them alone. Those that do are a part of his cult, are granted immunity from extreme cold. He is also served and worshipped by a number of other non-human races.

so
luci?
User avatar #187 to #185 - angelious (11/30/2015) [-]
quite easily...

a better matchup would be the entire lovecraft verse vs lucifer...i mean that guy is counted among the top 5 strongest beings in dc continuity.

and dc is constantly being pegged as the second strongest fictional work ever (marvel being usually considered stronger because of preretcon beyonder) so that should give you something of a scale of how strong luci is.

I was about to say Cthulhu, but Lucifer is a cheeky bastard.

However, I'd say Cthulhu in the long run.

Probably.

Cthulhu would have the advantage, Lucifer might be able to work something out though.

lucifer is a step down from the presence.
Probably one of the most powerful characters in media - if not the most.
#186 to #165 - willwyn (11/30/2015) [-]
Cthulhu has complete madness and disorder at his command. He can render any consciousness mad. Or at least his horn can, and then he releases an unlimited supply of anciet ones and brings forth the Greater gods. So I'm not sure who would win, but I'd like to think neither and rather Lucifer Morningstar is left raving mad, yet still alive, but unable to fight, or he might commit suicide as those who exposed to Cthulhu's horn usually does.
User avatar #188 to #186 - muchname (11/30/2015) [-]
I
I think you have quite a misunderstanding of Lucifer.
He's essentially god but nerfed a little.
Let's be real, The Presence would more than likely destroy any elder god. don't give me that "if yoth shothoth wakes up we all die cus reality is his dream" bollocks, Luci's universe is different to the Lovecraftian universe
#190 to #188 - willwyn (11/30/2015) [-]
Exactly, you have to imagine a universe where both of these characters live. Comparative power, not "oh your powers don't apply"

And it's not so much his dream as much as he is disorder to the universe, he wakes up and all goes from order to chaos basically destroying reality as we know it or all together.

And at the same time the mental and physical powers of Lucifer is just as daunting, that's why I said Idk. Sorry if my previous response seemed aggressive, my bad
User avatar #201 to #190 - angelious (11/30/2015) [-]
>>#192, cthulhu doesnt cause madness. his body is just so bizarely alien and advanced compared to humans that humans cant comprehend it and thus go mad from revelation.

lucifer, is WAYYY above cthulhus paygrade. heck he is way above the paygrade of the things that cthulhu is worshippinG!(elder gods)

we are talking about a being that created his own multiverse, versus potentially planetary level being.

User avatar #192 to #190 - muchname (11/30/2015) [-]
but the presence -and most reality warpers/near true Omnipotent- live outside of reality?
#193 to #192 - willwyn (11/30/2015) [-]
As does Yog shothoth. Chtulhu would die, but would wake him up. And Yog Shothoth is analogous to the Presence, just chaotic instead of order. They are kinda like inverses. They may cancel out. So you gotta add "Wakes Yog Shothoth" to Cthulhu's powers, meaning the fight would be close, I honestly think it's even or very very close.
User avatar #194 to #193 - muchname (11/30/2015) [-]
so what your saying is.
Cthulhu gets yothy
Luci whips out Presence
and reality crumbles, essentially.

User avatar #41 to #27 - comicexplain (11/29/2015) [-]
Lucifer! It would be a fun battle, but Cthuhlu isn't even close to the strongest of the Mythos! He's a priest, not a true Elder God!

Lucy would just turn him into something he isn't, and then Cthulhu[white][white] would be no more.
User avatar #43 to #41 - muchname (11/29/2015) [-]
then how about this:
Spectre, Lucifer, Michael and Fate unbound vs the elders?
User avatar #44 to #43 - comicexplain (11/29/2015) [-]
Hrm.

Depends, honestly! For the comic force to win, they'd need to do it ASAP - The Elders get stronger as time goes on, when the stars are right.

Thankfully, they're not mortal, so I'll go with the comic people! I think only one of their heads would get blown off, but which one it is, I can't be certain!
User avatar #131 to #43 - fatorange (11/30/2015) [-]
well considering the "devils" are meant to be tied to earth, and humanity. But the elders are tied to like, an age before the universe existed, and are part of some great cosmic ageless evil id probably lean towards the elders!

User avatar #38 to #34 - LaBarata (11/29/2015) [-]
It's an Elder Sign. It was originally like crossing yourself in Lovecraft mythos, and this version's based off a more modern take on the design. To start off, I'd recommend you check here www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/ for all Lovecraft's original stuff.

In terms of where to start, it all depends on what level of ****** up you're looking for.

In terms of milder, Victorian science horror, I'd check out Herbet West, Reanimator. It's the story of a doctor trying to bring the dead back to life. www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/reanimator.htm

If you're looking for a good old-fashioned horror story about unknowable **** and folks poking around where they shouldn't be, I'd go for the original Call of Cthulhu. www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/thecallofcthulhu.htm

If you want otherworldly horror mixed with a good dose of black people hate, check out The Horror at Red Hook. www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/thehorroratredhook.htm

If you want to watch someone go absolutely bibbledy, check out The Rats in the Walls. www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/theratsinthewalls.htm

My two personal favourites are At the Mountains of Madness www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/mountainsofmaddness.htm , which is the tale of an Antarctic expedition going very, very wrong, and The Shadow over Innsmouth, which is just plain awesome www.dagonbytes.com/thelibrary/lovecraft/theshadowoverinnsmouth.htm

I read somewhere, I don't remember where, that those who stumble upon Ithaqua aren't murdered, but rather forced to march with him for eternity, gaining invulnerability to cold, while constantly feeling an itching in their eyes that makes them want to scratch them out. Also this juicy bit from Lovecraft Wikia:

"He frequently attempts to reproduce with humanoid females, hoping to create offspring which can surpass his own limitations, imposed by the elder gods, and so help free the rest of the great old ones. It is suggested that Ithaqua has the ulterior motive of desiring offspring to assuage his bitter loneliness, as he is the only one of his kind. None of his surviving offspring to date has accommodated him, all turning against him at some point."

Many of the Ancient Ones, interestingly enough, are portrayed as rather sad, lonely beings. Even Azathoth, master of chaos who dreams us alive puts himself intentionally into slumber so he can have company, for when he wakes his mind is in such chaos that it is destroyed instantly.

Thats the Point of lovecraft:

You could throw 1000 more badasses that ram ships against elder beeings heads, doesn´t stop them to end you. Funny enough Cthulhu was not even really an god but more like an priest, that´s right, Cthulhu is just an ***** priest, the only reason we still exist is, that the Outer and most elder gods have better things to do then destroying humanity.

the only outer god that is even honestly interested in humankind is nyacantholep... which is not good at all, no ******* idea what the very harbringer of the gods wants from humanity, but it´s not ****** good for sure.
