The dwarves have a battledore that goes: "Barak
Khajiit " It translates as "Axes of the
Dwarves! The Dwarves are upon you!" Gimli shouts it
two times during the Battle of Hamburg (Helm' s Deep),
first in its entirety and wateriest the last part.
If you watched The Hobbit movies, you might have
noticed that the creatures that live in the Misty
Mountains are called "goblins". Well, inthe Lord ofthe
Rings, the words "goblin" and "orc" refered the same
kind of creatures and the terms are used
interchangeably. Don' t let the confusion lead you to
believe they' re two different races.
Rememberable "no man can kill me" phrase the
Kitchening drops? It' s because there was a prophecy
that stated that he would not fall by the hand of man.
This prophecy was pronounced by Glorfendil (check part
6 if you don' t know him) after he made the Kitchening
run away at the end of a battle, and became fulfilled
when eowyn, with the aid of Merry, finally defeated the
Kitchening in the Battle ofthe Pelennor Fields.
Note Since habbits are a branch of the race o/ men, technically Merry was a man. Thus we
can assume was talking about nornal, full size men when he foresaw the
Witch
Anduril, Aragorn' s sword, was reforged before the
Fellowship left Rivendell. So Aragorn had it with him all
the way from there, not like in the movies, where it was
given to him right before he headed to the Paths ofthe
Dead inthe Return ofthe King. Also, before it was
reforged, the sword was called Narsil.
In case you wondered what Frodo says to light up the
bottle that Galadriel gives him, the phrase is Hiya
Alennon Annalisa". It translates as "Hail
brightest of stars". is a
from the First Age who carried a (one of the
three most precious and brightest jewels ever made)
into "the seas of heaven", becoming a star (he' s also
happens to be Elrond' s father). The bottle is supposed to
carry the light ifthat star within it.

Saruman doesn' t provoke the avalanche when the
Fellowship is passing overhue mountain Cazadores, the
snowstorm happens in a natural way. Although the
members of the Fellowship believe that is the will of the
mountain that doesn' t want them to cross, it' s not clear
is actually true or it' sjust the characters
perception.
After getting married, Sam and Rosie move with Frodo
just imagine how awkward it must' been when they
were making their first baby). Frodo appoints Sam as his
heir and leaves him Bag End and all he possesses when
he finally sails to the Undying Lands.
was evacuated before the battle and the
men of the city didn' t fight alone before the Rohirrim
arrived. From the southern fiefdoms of Gondor, little
less than 3, 000 men arrived in aid of , among
which the company ofthe Prince of Dol Azroth
was the best equipped.
And speaking of Prince , he was the one who
saved Faramir when he was shot with a poisoned arrow.
The Prince arrived with his in time to
prevent the Haradrim from finishing Faramir. He also
rode alongside Aragorn and Eomer when they went to
face Mordor at the Black Gate.
afterthe enemy broke the door of . The only
thing that prevented them from doing so was the
arriving of the Rohirrim. As soon as he heard their horns
he left in order to lead the charge against them. Unlike
in the movie, the Kitchening never attacks Gandolfini
it' s almost certain that he would not be powerful
enough to defeat him.
that' s Au FOR now. thank goo

Because telling the back story of the Umbaric Corsairs, the corsair king, ciridan, and how it relates to Gondor and dol amroth would have been a pain in the ass. I mean **** , imaril was pretty absent.

the biggest dragon in fiction if i'm correct

you're correct that IS Ancalagon the black the largest dragon ever. He was killed by earendil the eagles after dueling with them an entire day. Ain't that some **** though if you want to look at a true beast of a dragon look up Glaurung that was a monster of a dragon.
User avatar #94 to #91 - theoneaboveall (06/26/2015) [-]
I know all about ancalagon would have been pretty coolp feature him in a new trilogy as well the king of balrogs or the void

Oh god the kind of the balrogs that i would want though i would rather have Glaurung then Ancalagon sure Ancalagon was gigantic and awe inspiring ************ but Glaurung was the original dragon badass.

I don't know man falling down and being able to crush 3 mountains bigger than Everest and blocking out the sun because an immortal killed you using a ship that can sail to heaven and carrying venus on his forehead seems kind of unreachable in terms of badassness

let's see what Glaurgun has done shall we
burned and ravaged ard-galen the land of the elves in Hithlum and Dorthonion when he was still a adolescent
at Dagor Bragollach led melkor's army against the High elves wrecking their **** completely burning a path through their forces with ******* Balrogs at his side
Nirnaeth Arnoediad once again led his army to battle but this time he had lesser dragons that he had sired with him completely crushing the army of elves and men only being driven off by the dwarves who were the only ones able to even stand up to him
Not only was he a monster on the battlefield but when morogth used him to hold lands he had gained Glaurung used his serpents eye power and hypnotic dragon spell to sway many to Morgoths side
Aided morgoth at the battle of unended tears and was afterwards given the task to go and sack the elven fortress Nargothrond which he did quite easily froze turin at the gates with his stare and tricked him into thinking his family was in danger when they really weren't sending him on a wild goose chase
Made Nienor turins sister lose her mind completly
when he died he killed both his killer and his sister though it was because they went all romeo and juliet

So, in all seriousness, Gandalf would wreck Dumbledore. I keep trying to explain this to my wife but she's all like "gandalf can't even do real magic."

Please discuss.
#109 to #27 - anon (06/30/2015) [-]
they don't use the same magic mechanic:
Gandalf practices very little incantation or spoken magic
Magic in HP is almost exclusively spoken incantations
Gandalf's magic is a more like conjuration or "think real hard and point the stick at em"
He only uses words to solve puzzles.
and as for 1v1 wizard duel? Gandalf wins, no contest. Dumbledore is no fool, so he would politely concede defeat. Then they'd sit down to share sweets and pipeweed and talk about all their wizardly adventures.
#48 to #27 - awkwardjew (06/26/2015) [-]
Though I think Gnadalf would win, Dumbledore could probably do some **** to Gandalf. He had/had the most powerful wand in existence (don't know how it would translate in power to LOTR) he could also through magic laws out the window and come straight out with a death curse?
User avatar #33 to #27 - victhree (06/25/2015) [-]
If Gandalf attacked an old man just because, he probably wouldn't have the backing of Ilúvatar and the rest of the pantheon. I'm not even sure they could reach the Earth. We haven't seen much of his power, though. A good comparison would be to pitch Dumbledore against a Balrog.
#41 to #33 - anon (06/26/2015) [-]
Aren't Gandalf and a Balrog on the same power level though, so it would be just the same as Dumbledore against Gandalf? Maybe Dumbledore against a ******* hobbit will do
User avatar #42 to #41 - victhree (06/26/2015) [-]
I seriously doubt he'd kill a hobbit. Just look at those tiny ******* , with all their fluffy hair.
#64 to #33 - somecreepyguy (06/26/2015) [-]
Well, saruman held his power after siding with souron.
User avatar #69 to #64 - victhree (06/26/2015) [-]
That's true, but he didn't have Eru to revive him. If Gandalf did lose the first round, it would be over. Plus, Dumbledore has an instant-death spell. I wonder if Gandalf has the power to stop that. Then again, we don't know much about his magic.
#70 to #69 - somecreepyguy (06/26/2015) [-]
Isn't Gandalf essentially a demigod after coming back? Though we never see him really strain himself, he acts as an agent of the gods, and never seems to be outmatched.
When battling the Balrog, he kills it without his staff, and later, fights the fully powered witch king (briefly) who could kill people with his presence, and damage the strength of the entire army at Minas Tirith with his screams. Gandalf
Dumbledore hasn't shown the kind of power to face Voldemort head to head, who i Highly doubt he can take a Nazgul at full power
#61 to #27 - aleypal (06/26/2015) [-]
im a big fan of both series but in all seriousness gandalf would easily win. the movies don't show very well his true strength but he's pretty much a demigod, and a servant to iluvatar who is god in LOTR. hardly a fair fight. it's like when death battles pitted goku against superman. yea they're both powerful, but superman is on a whole different level. but you'll still always have people desperately trying to say goku wins. just like HP fans will desperately try to back dumbledore.
#29 to #27 - anon (06/25/2015) [-]
Gandalf is a Demi-God

Dumbledore is an old pedo with a skinny wooden dildo
User avatar #30 to #27 - Tyranitar (06/25/2015) [-]
"Gandalf can't even do real magic"

Gandalf has done several things that outclass Dumbledore in every way, and he doesn't even use a quarter of his power.
User avatar #49 to #27 - fuzzyballs (06/26/2015) [-]
there's nothing to discuss
Gandalf has survived worse than Dumbledore did, even if you're biased, you have to admit Gandalf is much stronger

+ he has a freaking sword dude, all he has to do is block magic and get close, then stab the ****** and take his mints
User avatar #55 to #27 - liamdurf (06/26/2015) [-]
Gandalf if obviously far more powerful than any Harry Potter character. He's a servant of his universe's God. Dumbledore's abilities are impressive in that there are no characters in his universe that were more powerful, everyone was only human.
User avatar #68 to #55 - fresighto (06/26/2015) [-]
Noooo gandalf isn't a servant of illuvitar, not directly. The wizards are supposed to me neutral and have no agenda. Sauron and Morgoth and saruman ****** that up. All the miar (sp?) Were supposed to stay out of it. See radagast and the blue wizards.
User avatar #81 to #27 - mechgeek (06/26/2015) [-]
Gandalf fought one of the most powerful beings that you can find in the mortal world (a balrog) when he was Gandalf the grey. In a fight which spanned all the way from the lowest dungeon of Moria to the highest peak, and that was when he was being level capped because the God of the LOTR universe went 'Yeah your full power would **** **** up too much down there, but I'll give you that power now because if YOU died **** must be pretty ****** . But just don't go ******* while in this mode yeah?' so even when we see Gandalf in his most powerful state, he's still holding back. Gandalf is so powerful that even Sauron himself doesn't want him to get a hold of the ring.
Dumbledoor has a pissy little fight with Voldemort the most powerful dark wizard in that world, and no real damage was even inflicted on either side. And when he died, he actually died. He didn't even win the fight when he was in ownership of the most powerful wand in existance. Also, yes, I know only Harry can kill Voldemort because he has to died first due to the Horcrux, but Dumbledoor couldn't even put Voldemort into bitch mode like when he had to live on the back of a dudes head.
TLR - make Dumbledoor fight a balrog, and make Gandalf fight voldemort. Which of those two do you think would be able to win their fights?

If the sword was re-forged before they left Rivendell, what did Arwen actually do apart from bringing Frodo into Rivendell?

How did Frodo know the phrase to turn on his groovy elf flashlight?

Small thing: In the movie, Boromir calls them "The shards of Narsil"

Wouldn't it have been a better idea to make the prohecy read like: "A woman shall kill you?" instead of the cryptic "No man can kill you?" If Glorfindel foresaw the fate, why be so damn vague about it?

Why is Frodo's sword so picky about glowing blue when orcs are near only sometimes?

User avatar #79 to #74 - ljxjlos (06/26/2015) [-]
1. She was Aragorns lover, she actually did not even bring Frodo to Rivendell - besides her relationship to Aragorn and her social standing she does not really play a big roll inside of the Tolkienverse - that part goes to another elven woman, Luthien Tinuviel whho is extremely similar to Arwen if you ignore the fact that she actually fought with Sauron in close combat and managed to trick Morgoth

2. a) it´s a common phrase, b) he was told the words, c) he speaks a bit elvish due to Bilbos lectures

3. It´s a prophecy - prophecies are cryptic by definition, else it´d be a clear foretelling. Also it´s a book and the plottwist would be lost.

4. It isn´t. It reacts stronger depending on how many orcs, what kind of orcs and how far away the orcs are and the sheat covers the glowing - so a few orcs could sneak onto you if you don´t check the blade every 5 minutes like a ranger for example might have done - Frodo is, despite of his adventures, a normal, rich guy. His adventures are new to him and he lacks experience, thus doesn´t check the blade all the time.
#80 to #79 - spacedunk (06/26/2015) [-]
1. Right, great thing she got so much space on the posters then

2. The movies left a lot of that out, I see.

3. That's my problem with prophecies in stories like this. Internally they rarely make sense. I actually almost loved The Matrix: Reloaded for daring to have a prophecy in it that turned out to be complete ******** . But of course it had to come true anyways

4. Well, again, the movies seem to not really care about this consistency. It glows blue sometimes, other times it just doesn't care.
User avatar #102 to #80 - ljxjlos (06/26/2015) [-]
Well, sex-sells - she was only made a a bigger part of the story to sell the movie. Sometimes stuff like this is necessary.

I don´t remember right now, tbh, haven´t seen the movies in a while.

Never seen Matrix, but well - LotR and Matrix are completely different generations.

See 2.D
#105 to #102 - spacedunk (06/26/2015) [-]
And I get the point about Liv Tyler. She was even more useless in Armageddon, yet she was still 1 of the 3 people on the posters.

She is on the poster for every single LOTR movie - can you tell me what she does at all in movie 2?
#104 to #102 - spacedunk (06/26/2015) [-]
My point about Matrix was also only that this movie almost had a prophecy that was ******** .

One of the unbreakable rules in Hollywood movies is to always let the prophecy come true. Oh, and never question how made it, how long ago and why it should be trusted.

It would've so cool if this prophecy about human salvation, that had been made by a program inside the Matrix, was bogus and a ploy to re-enslave the human race by putting their hope in a false savior.
But no - it went all Jesus metaphors on itself
User avatar #39 - nought (06/25/2015) [-]
