Glorfendil (who doesn' t appear in the movies) was the
one who rescued Frodo from the Nazgul when they
chased him right before arriving to Rivendell. He' s a
mighty "of a house of princes", as described in
the novel, and was sent by Elrond in search of Frodo.
He' s actually a reincarnated the First Age whose
last deed in his previous life was to kill a Balrog (he died
doing so).
Aragorn was taken to Rivendell when he was 2 years old
and his true identity and lineage were kept a secret until
he was 20. Elrond was like a father to him and came to
love him as a son.
Along with the earth Galadriel gave to Sam (check Part 5
for more detail), in the box there was a seed of a
mallory, the tree that grows in the woods of Lothlorien.
Sam hadn' t noticed it until he opened the box
returned and settled down in the Shire. He planted the
seed in the same place where the tree under which Bilbo
made his speech was (this tree had been cut down).

Legolas runs out of arrows twice in the novel. The first
time is during the attack from the in Amon
Hen, where Boromir died. The second time is during the
battle at Helm' s Deep, after shooting his last arrow in
order to kill an arc that led a charge .
Pippin managed to kill the chief of the trolls at the Black
Gate. He stabbed him so hard that his blade pierced
deeply into the troll' s organs. The troll then fell on
Pippin, knocking him out. The last thing Pippin heard
before going unconscious was the crying ofthe men
announcing the eagles were arriving to the battle.
