RANDOM FACTS'
PART ‘V
Glorfendil (who doesn' t appear in the movies) was the
one who rescued Frodo from the Nazgul when they
chased him right before arriving to Rivendell. He' s a
mighty "of a house of princes", as described in
the novel, and was sent by Elrond in search of Frodo.
He' s actually a reincarnated the First Age whose
last deed in his previous life was to kill a Balrog (he died
doing so).
Aragorn was taken to Rivendell when he was 2 years old
and his true identity and lineage were kept a secret until
he was 20. Elrond was like a father to him and came to
love him as a son.
Along with the earth Galadriel gave to Sam (check Part 5
for more detail), in the box there was a seed of a
mallory, the tree that grows in the woods of Lothlorien.
Sam hadn' t noticed it until he opened the box
returned and settled down in the Shire. He planted the
seed in the same place where the tree under which Bilbo
made his speech was (this tree had been cut down).
aying hobbit woman
that once stole some silver spoons from Bilbo) left Frodo
all of her money when she died, in order for him to help
the hobbits that were made homeless by all the troubles
Saruman caused in the Shire (she felt responsible
because her son was involved). Thus the long enmity
between the Baggins and the came to
an end.
Balin, believing the rumours that said the dwarves were
strong and numerous enough to enter back in Moria,
took Orland Oh and many of the dwarven people and
headed there, butturt to find their death. Balin was
killed by an om one day he went to see the Darrowmere
a lake near Moria). om was taken by the tentacled
creature (known as the Watcher in the Water). And On
died in the last stand against the arcs in the Chamber of
When Sam had the Ring after taking it from Frodo when
he thought him dead, the Ring began to tempt him by
making him fantasise about him being the hero that was
going to take Sauron down and create beautiful gardens
from the withered lands, if hearst reclaimed it for him.
His love for Frodo and his humility were the things that
helped him stand strong and defeat the temptation.
Boromir' s death takes place in the first chapter ofthe
Two Towers, not onthe Fellowship of the Ring like in
the movie trilogy. However, the circumstances of his
death remain the same: killed by an awful lot of arrows
picture shows only two, though) while defending Merry
and Pippin. He managed to kill at least twenty ores
before falling.
When the war ended and Aragorn was crowned King of
Gondor, he appointed Faramir as Prince , the
land he used to defend alongside the Rangers ofthe
South. Faramir also kept the charge of Steward of
Gondor that he inherited from his father.
Legolas runs out of arrows twice in the novel. The first
time is during the attack from the in Amon
Hen, where Boromir died. The second time is during the
battle at Helm' s Deep, after shooting his last arrow in
order to kill an arc that led a charge .
Pippin managed to kill the chief of the trolls at the Black
Gate. He stabbed him so hard that his blade pierced
deeply into the troll' s organs. The troll then fell on
Pippin, knocking him out. The last thing Pippin heard
before going unconscious was the crying ofthe men
announcing the eagles were arriving to the battle.

You see, that's why Sam is so brilliant!

When given a device of amazing power, that corrupts people into wanting more power, Sam just wants that power to make a ******* awesome garden then thinks "Nah, I couldn't tend that much land. That's just silly. I'd be much happier with a small garden"

The quote - And then all the clouds rolled away, and the white sun shone, and at his command the vale of Gorgoroth became a garden of flowers and trees and brought forth fruit. He had only to put on the Ring and claim it for his own, and all this could be.
In that hour of trial it was his love of his master that helped most to hold him firm; but also deep down in him lived still unconquered his plain hobbit-sense: he knew in the core of his heart that he was not large enough to bear such a burden, even if such visions were not a mere cheat to betray him. The one small garden of a free gardener was all his need and due, not a garden swollen to a realm; his own hands to use, not the hands of others to command.

Yes, well, Frodo had the ring for 17 years. Even though Sam has an incorruptible mind, Frodo had to fight the Ring's power for over a dozen years. That's pretty ******* amazing, too.

growing up i always liked sam in the books and movies the most for some reason, now that i think about it. He was always the hero of the story, because he was the average joe just trying to get his friends home.

Even Tolkien himself said that Sam is the true hero of the LotR books.

The dwarf one always disturbs me. I mean, I guess before the Hobbit movies, they were just names, now they've got faces and distinct personalities. And then they all died horribly. Balin was probably my favorite dwarf of the company, he was like the chill old grandfather of the group.

User avatar #112 to #104 - ljxjlos (06/24/2015) [-]
In the context of the books, yes. We have full knowledge how the Dwarfs of Torins Fellowship who went to Moria did die. It all was written in the book they found in the gravechamber.
#14 - cancerlobster (06/23/2015) [-]
Considering its recent history Moria seems like the ********* place in Middle Earth, at least for the dwarves. rip in pieces Balin

Do you remember all the songs in lord of the rings? Do you love how there was great detail put into every windowsill in the elf village and how they took 20 minutes to show off each one?
The books a ******* boring.
#32 to #29 - anon (06/23/2015) [-]
Never attempt real literature if you think LOTR is boring, kiddo.

I'd be interested to hear a bit more about the rangers of the north. I tried looking them up but got confused about the fact that they are called dunedain but I thought dunedain were the numenorean descendants and were really rare and have super long lives (like aragorn) but it seems like the rangers are called dunedain even though they aren't all numenorean. Like, Faramir is a dunedain ranger of ithilien but he doesn't live as long as Aragorn does he?

Clarification would be awesome about the dunedain, the rangers (north and ithilien), and which characters actually have the extended lives!
User avatar #44 to #41 - angelusprimus (06/23/2015) [-]
Dúnedain are Númenóreans who survived the fall of Númenór by following Elendil and his sons, Isildur and Anárion.

They started two kingdoms Arnor in the north and Gondor in the south. Series of wars in the north, against Angmar, led by the king of the Ringwraiths and plagues killed off most of the Dúnedain in the north and ended that kingdom. But remaining Dúnedain banded together around their surviving royal line (Aragorn's family) and defended the North from the wild becoming Dúnedain Rangers.

Gondor survived, but over long time and many wars it became much smaller kingdom, and their royal line died out. So a noble family of Stewards of Gondor took over ruling Gondor. People of Gondor are Dúnedain, but are not Dúnedain Rangers (those are only people remaining from Arnor), Ithilien Rangers is just a name of a Gondor military unit.

As Aragorn is descendant of Elendil, he had a blood right to be a king, but Gondor (who became used to being ruled by Stewards) wouldn't accept him easily until he had proven himself in the War of the Ring.

All Dúnedain live longer than normal human lives. Depending on how pure their blood line is (if they intermarried with other humans their descendants live shorter) it can mean couple of centuries. But the royal line of Aragorn lives REALLY long lives because they have elven blood and even Maiar blood in them.
#86 to #44 - noxface (06/24/2015) [-]
That's great, thanks for clearing that up!
#64 - Jabberwocky (06/24/2015) [-]
The LOTR films were ******* flawless. I'm so happy I got to see Return of the King in theaters.
#33 - corsairjoshua (06/23/2015) [-]
And then he tried to **** his "sister". No wonder Elrond was so salty.

It's so depressing when I remember that those dwarves died in Moria. It's not a problem in LotR because they're not 'people' yet. But after the Hobbit it's so sad.

Lessons I learned today:

Kill a Balrog if you want to be resurrected.
Legolas runs out of arrows only when it can create an extremely dramatic scene.
