Anyone else remember that story? The one about the little match girl? Dang, that was sad.
did they make a cartoon out of that? I vaguely remember seeing a cartoon that was as sad as **** .
Now that you mention that, I think I remember something along those lines.
I can't remember if it was a cartoon or a really good colored book. But i'm fairly sure there was music...so it must have been a cartoon...

It's about a poor little girl that tries to survive by selling matches but it's not going so well... And in the end she meets a nice lady that takes care of her and she lived happly ever after. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED AND IF ANYONE TELLS YOU DIFFERENT THEY'RE LYING!
******* germans and their bedtime stories
Story:
On New Year's Eve a little girl braves the bitter cold to sell matches. She's beaten by her father if she fails to sell them.
She gets hypothermia and uses the matches to warm herself upon failing. She sees some nice **** in the flickering match flames. Then she dies and her grandmother carries her soul to heaven while the people who didn't help her pass her dead body by and feel sorry for her. This is considered a "heartwarming" ending by Anderson because now she's in heaven and free from poverty/abuse.
Or ya know you could go with the disney version which is the little girl gets rescued by a loving family but Germans gotta be honest.

Well, as you found out, he H.C Andersen was Danish.
That said, its not exactly considered "heartwarming". More of a sorta "theres a facet of niceness, even to death" sorta thing. I think I once heard it used to explain why our Danish welfare state was such a good idea.
I never really thought about it, that it might be a bit ****** up, to read to children, a story in which the main character freezes to death...

In Disney's version she absolutely dies, bud. The ending is too good to be true. Literally.
