It was only after death that yoda learned to appreciate the finer things in life

Usually Dorkly has a bad habit of going for the lowest common denominator for reference based humor, but I always liked this one.

Still waiting for a cinematic female sith.
#29 to #7 - anon (01/10/2016) [-]
As I understand it, I thought it was a part of the idea of the sith/jedi that females largely couldn't be one. That's why even though there were 2 known children with the force, they chose the male : presumably because, in a sense, only men could truly commit in that fashion to an idea like being a jedi or being a sith. Same idea with the sith. Rey is only a """jedi""" out of necessity, similar to Luke.

Heck, the sith is moreso gender divided because it's built upon rage, power, and desire; which not necessarily exclusive to men, but definitely more present. A woman sith would have to be either very masculine (at which point we ask: what's the point?) or extremely damaged (at which point we ask: how much time are we going to give in order to develop this character?).

Brah Ventress was close to becoming a sith apprentice all she had to do was kill dooku
#33 to #31 - anon (01/10/2016) [-]
I wouldn't really call that 'close'
As far as im aware Ventress is a joke compared to Dooku

no, their were loads of female jedi masters, and also plenty of sith females before the rule of 2 became the standard sith doctrine (the idea that only 2 sith may exist at any time) some were even counted as among the greatest ever to live.

the reason luke was chosen over leia was simply because obi-wan had already begun training luke. and leia was too busy to begin training,

i was thinking that as I left the theatre. that would be an excellent twist, a bit similar to anakin's story but not a ****** because it isn't being directed by lucas

what female characters were they supposed to add? padme is the only one that makes sense and she had to die
#16 to #14 - anon (01/10/2016) [-]
There doesn't need to be a justification for a character to be a woman.
User avatar #17 to #16 - Deavas (01/10/2016) [-]
i seriously cant tell what youre trying to get across here if youre agreeing with me or not

I think what anon is trying to say is, that any male character can easily be turned into a female and it wouldn't change the story, but it would add some nice diversity.

But then again, Diversity is really stupid if you do it for diversity's sake.
I mean, yeah we can flip the genders of most characters, but what's the point? Because we need more females? Because we need strong female role models?

I think they only should flip the gender of character/add more females is because they find a woman more appropriate to the role or if she adds something that was needed. Otherwise, you're just being a dumbass.
User avatar #20 to #19 - Deavas (01/10/2016) [-]
oh okay so anon did go full retard
again, lets ask the question
WHO ELSE COULD HAVE BEEN FEMALE

not anakin. or obi wan. or yoda or the emperor. mace? nope. samuel jackson was chosen for a reason. top billed black hollywood actor that wasnt tupac because he died. qui-gon? yes id love to hear about the first female jedi ever and she gets killed right away. theres like no one else. too many characters in ep 1 to begin with, and ep 2 and 3 just talked about the remaining ones
User avatar #21 to #20 - sketchysketchist (01/10/2016) [-]
I was never a fan of star wars, so I can't fairly answer that question with a specific name.
But any character who's gender played no role in their development or story could've been genderswapped. Same if they changed their skin tone, or any frivolous thing really.

But I trust that the people behind the scenes weren't dressed in klan outfits while rubbing their hands together and muttering something about women not belonging in cinema and people of color needing to go back to their country.

Besides, their jewish roots require they do everything they can to earn as much money as possible, so I'm sure every choice they make is majorily financial. I'm joking. Not everyone in hollywood is a jew.

>But any character who's gender played no role in their development or story could've been genderswapped. Same if they changed their skin tone, or any frivolous thing really.

i can tell youre not a fan of star wars, because in the prequels, there are none
User avatar #24 to #22 - sketchysketchist (01/10/2016) [-]
Really?
Like, all the women had woman stuff to do and all the men had man stuff to do. And all the (race/ethnicity) people had to do (race/ethnicity) stuff?

Because I really think the only thing only men can do that woman can't is stick their dick in something and fill it with jizz, and the only thing only women can do is take some dick and jizz an carry a baby.

Unless, the backstory of the characters said something like, only men have this power and only women have this power. Like Dragon Ball Z where only guys can be saiyans.

well see theres this thing that exists called "The Original Trilogy"
even if youre not a star wars fan, surely you must understand the concept of "continuity"

lets break down every character of the prequels

>we've already mentioned anakin, obi wan, yoda, palpatine, mace, and qui gon, but lets add jabba the hutt, and jango and boba fett (with the plot devices used) and by extension the clones,
>Jar Jar
should not have been in there to begin with. but hes black anyway. also, there are no female gungans of note, but who the **** cares, everybody hates them
>Watto
already a stereotypical middle eastern jew, the image translates easier as a male. so far both of these would immediately been scooped up as racist portrayals and anger women in addition to their respective races
>captain panaka and typho
both nonwhite males whose roles are nothing. had they been women, women would have complained about not getting a bigger role
>notable jedi ki-adi-mundi, aayla secura (woman) plo koon, stass allie (woman), shaak ti (woman)
all of them are killed (though shaak ti was cut from the 3rd movie and so therefore, canonically pre-disney, did not die in ep 3 and survived the purge) but do you know what women said? "why did ki-adi-mundi block a few shots when aayla secura didnt even raise her lightsaber?"
despite the fact that one was already in active battle and the other wasnt. ki-adi-mundi is the only background character jedi to have a speaking role except shaak ti, but her scene was scrapped
>darth maul and count dooku
are you going to try and tell me youd prefer any woman over christopher lee? no. ray park however, is another story. but again, is barely in the movie, and is killed anyway.

>>notable female characters: anakin's mom, padme, changeling bounty hunter, padme's body doubles and servants, jedi library lady.
youll note that none of these characters with the exception of padme, are of really any importance to the story. youll also notice, with the exception of count dooku, and who was asisted by assajj ventress in the tv show, a woman neither is anyone else listed above who isnt in the OT.

point being, there's no room, it doesnt matter, or it doesnt make sense. youll say "if it doesnt matter then why not?" because theyre not looking for background characters. they want main characters. and in the prequels, there is no room for more

I don't understand any of that, but I get some things you're trying to say.

It's like that guy who said why there aren't many females in videos games, and pointed out that if the main character from Monkey Island was a woman, women would bitch about how abused she was and how she was depicted as an idiot who never got her way.

I mean, we're both right i a way. The majority of those characters could be genderswapped, but they would barely be in the film or you'd change continuity and piss off fans or they wouldn't be seen as a flattering representation of women/people of color. So someone would bitch about how sexist/racist they are anyway.

In short, you can't make feminazis/Al Sharpton happy, no matter how hard you try.

I get it, I think. I hope you can agree that this is the most reasonable answer to why there aren't many vaginas in Star Wars.

I dunno, it seems like it's pretty effortless to add a female character in. If Rey was a dude the story would essentially be the same throughout (except for that weird sexual tension between her and Finn, but who knows). I don't get the salt over them saying "oh we should put more women in star wars", as if a character having a vagina is gonna ruin your experience. None of the people complaining about diversity and feminism seem to complain about the obvious feminist symbol that Leia was, and how she literally has a whole arc in the 6th movie where she frees herself from sexual slavery. I'm not tryna start an argument, I just think it's kinda dumb to get so angry about people saying, "hey, maybe there should be more female leads in star wars".
