Trouble with Octopuses is that they don't have a memory retention, they can learn a huge number of different tasks, like opening that jar. But they have to be taught it every day otherwise they forget how!

What's the estimate on how intelligent the smartest octopus is? Is it at all comparable to a human child or anything? (I think German Shepherds are supposed to be able to learn a number of commands close to that of the vocabulary level of a 4th grader.)

Its being researched but it has been proven that an octopus that's learned to open jars can teach another octopus how without the second octopus ever seeing/feeling a jar before.
