I'm not 100% sure. It's been a bit difficult to find physical descriptions for some of them. I think the lower ranked the angel the more human it looks.

This is off rough memory so forgive any possible mistakes
As you can tell from the graph on the left there are several orders in the hierarchy. The higher ranking ones are closer to god and are well... often Lovecraftian as you said.
The lower ranking ones are closer to humanity and are thus closer in appearance to humans. Thus all the messengers of god are actually rather low rank because of there closeness to humanity. I can't image people would respond to well to flaming eye wheel thing, compared to your more classic angels.

Lower ranking ones look more human but not much above tier 6. Tier 3 is the Thrones and **** like Ramiel and it gets grazier as it goes up to Seraphim at Tier 1.

Even then. If it was some Lovecraftian Horror Show, it'd still be cool and you eould get used to it eventually, especially since you feel the essence of Justice, Prudence, Temperance, and Piety, as well as God's love showing you from above. That probably makes it all more tolerable.

Yep. Last I checked, Angels were actually pretty horrifying and Eldritch in nature.

There are a few strange ones, though the strangest I can recall are these guys, some other guys nearly made out of wings, and some guy who was pure muscle. No skin, just muscle. No eyes or organs or anything either. Humanoid muscle.

christianity is pretty neat once you start going to the actual deeper lore rather than skimming the surface where all the boring stuff is.(bible for the most part i mean...)

also other neat facts to know: the estimated number of angels is around 400 million. and one third of those apparently became demons after the supposed fall of lucifer. and hell has over 666 demon lords who govern over rest of the demons..also i think hell was split into something like 666 parts as well. but its been way too long since i last read on demonology...

it was from some really old book about demonology i read when i was a wee little lad. it went on to explain the hierarchy of each invidual level, their ranks,what they did,how many demons they had under him, their important underlings and so on and so on.

Christians don't want to oppress homosexuals; they don't want to oppress ANYONE. They just don't agree with gay marriage and that's it!

Also angels should not be worshiped; if you knew about Christianity that should be very clear. Only God is to be worshiped. Unlike people angels don't have free will so why worship them?

well... here is some useless knowledge if any one wants it

the origin of the word demon.

it was first spelled Daemon but was later changed since really the A had no business being there but the greeks loved making spelling complicated for ***** and giggles. the word Daemon itself had a connection with another word, genius. the word genius originally meant that there was a sort of angel/spiritual being that followed you around and gave you ideas and helped you with knowledge. "he is a genious = he is one of theose that spirits love to bro it up with, maybe he's born with it? maybe its maybelline?" those beings were named Daemons.

so yeah, the original meaning of demon was spirits that went around giving guys knowledge.

I'd say they are post metal, like Isis, Amenra, Steak Number Eight and Pelican.
If I would be even more specific and allowed to make up my own genre name I'd say they are Impressionistic Post Metal. I think these guys do with music what impressionistic writers do with words: Using a form of art (music) to invoking/conjure up a certain very specific image or feeling and "describing" it in as much detail as possible.
To me, every album of Cult of Luna since Salvation has an extremely distinct sound to it that completely resonates with the artwork and songtitles of that distinctive album. (The most obvious one being Vertikal, the most inexplicable one being Somewhere Along the Highway)
I could go into more detail about this, but I'll spare you my possibly way-too-in-depth thoughts, unless you really want me to.

One thing though...why black metal? To be quite honest, aside from very post-influenced stuff like Agalloch, I'd say there's nothing Black about CoL...

The riffage, I don't know, I can never name their riffs style / genres and then one day it hit me; it was closest to a form of black metal, the playstyle and rawness.... I can't name them better, its impossible !.... Maybe thats why I like their unique flavor.

But I definitely think they are sort of psychedelic in nature. Their sound is so warped it sounds like it came out of a white hole from outer space via tv statics lol. Good to see someone digging this gem of a band.

And yeah, ISIS #1, Cult #2 for me, and they will probably stay with my soul forever.
My biggest dream in music is to create music based on isis' spectrum by the way....

hmmmm...the thing is that for me black metal just doesn't work. I've given a ******** of the more acclaimed and artistic black metal bands a try, and the sound just really doesn't click with me. The whole cathartic/artistic feeling many people claim to hear in black metal just isn't there for me. For some reason I always find it to be missing any form of dynamics, idunno...to me Cult of Luna really is far from black metal.

But seriously, if you like the riffage/playstyle of CoL and the likes I highly suggest you check out Steak Number Eight. Black Fall- Steak Number Eight

And yeah. I'd love to do that too, and I have one friend who would like that too, but a guitar player and a bassist don't make a band. And it's so hard to find other musicians who dig this music. Also, I try to write in that style sometimes, but it always feels extremely inferior to the bands I look up to and what I'd want to write...

Youre right, theyre not black. I'm sleepy, couldn't make myself clear.

I'm unable to name their style / genre, drives me nuts I can only name their riffs and I thought it was closest to black, like I said, rawness etc. Other than that, they are not black at all, they are post-metal or something else but still I can't name them, the best I got figured is that theyre psychedelic at least...... Psychedelic-black was something I made up while listening to Vertikal 1 & 2 while high lol. Theyre so epic we can't even name them.

Steak No 8 I will definitely check out, names familiar... Fukken saved, I'm at work.

In a parallel world, I'm the guy who gets you into start smoking trees with music.

I think, considering ISIS' roots, their music started as dronish hardcore. When they got big underground, they got to make underground friends -meaning some bad people- who got them into acid whike socializing. Some freak like me told them to listen to them while on acid. Thats when they realized they could do so much more '' alien '' music.....

I came to this conclusion based on my researches about dr0gz after one day listening to them, meditating, and got a vision from the music itself.... I'll go no further than this, I don't want you to think of me as a weirdo. But know that ISIS' music is something so simple and beautiful ( and forceful ) turned alien and progressive as hell. And that is ******* glorious !
