The guy has a parasite.
Long version:
The guy has an alien parasite inside his head, which controls his body and allows it to do things like that, also, those blades are metal-ish.
Here, the protagonist, during a battle with him, stabbed him through the chest; since the remainder of the body is still human, and as such... quite a bit weaker that the augmented head part, so he would eventually bleed out...
