Thats not tourettes...

Every documentary I've seen regarding tourettes the person said words spastically uncontrollable and incoherently.

That kids just swearing.

I've heard others say tourettes isn't something that is uncontrollable, just that if they don't do it, they'll feel ****** about it.

tourettes is uncontrollable.
it's loss of impulse control.
you're half right. because basically, they feel worse and worse untill they do it.

in severe cases, they have no control, in minor cases, they just feel ******** and ******** untill they give in.
this kid seems to have a minor case of it, but lets it out instantly because he knows he'll do it anyway, and just skips the feeling ****** part.

you're the closest i'v seen to what it actually is on this page.
i actually do have it, was diagnosed when i was 6 but i managed to stop the vocal part when i was about 17. never was able to get rid of the physical tics.

the real definition from me is, it is controllable to an extent, you know what your doing and you can stop for how long you can hold it. but basically its an impulse, like i'll use one of mine you need to feel the feeling of your neck muscle tense up and squeeze your head against your shoulder. you NEED this. but you dont have to. you can stop. but every second you dont do it, the need builds up and builds up, untill that is literally the harshest craving you could ever have in your life. most people dont even have a clue what will-power is, you want to know what it is, talk to someone with tourettes, i'v quit smoking, quit weed, quit other drugs... believe me when i say nothing has **** on this craving. i'v come to terms with one day i'll break my own neck, but i know i used to have the vocal part, but i was strong enough to overcome, and used to have so many other twitches, and widdled myself down to just the neck tick.

as for the kid, i dont believe he has it at all, its too fluent, no shame in it, not sudden need gratification, easing into it doesn't give the release and he's far too young for him to be controlling it so easily. although with attention of people and camera's on him it forces you to control it more, but i dont see enough of mine in here to say that i can say his is real
tourettes guy didnt actually have it either

I have tourette's as well, and you're completely right. Usually if I don't think about my tics i won't do them, but it still gets hard to not do them sometimes. Although, I guess I'm pretty lucky in the sense that my physical ticks aren't that extreme, so I won't cause any harm to myself because of them.
User avatar #16 to #12 - trollmobile ONLINE (12/09/2015) [-]
i was tested for it.
turns out i just have really bad impulse control, not actual tourettes.
#15 to #12 - thorseph (12/09/2015) [-]
so the question is if we managed to change a persons percerptions on what a swear word is would his tourrettes be able to say other things, like you ingrain it in them that critical is a swear word, then they are all like 'how are you doing mama... critical... lovely weather'
User avatar #29 to #15 - chris chris ONLINE (12/09/2015) [-]
no, its not the fact that its a bad word. im not sure where the tics come from, but it could literally be any word or physical action. i used to grunt, that was my longest lasting verbal tic. i suppose other peoples dont change very much but i really put an effort into stopping them and usually i start doing something else when i manage to stop doing one.

nowadays you wouldnt even know i have tourettes. i'v dated girls for months without them knowing

my cousin has turrets, he has spasms every few seconds and you can see all his muscles spasm, he's really ripped because of this. constantly spasing out

he also sometimes curses

its like someone gave you an electrical shock, your entire body tenses up and you shake for a split second, or curse. sometimes both.

it's worse than trying not to blink. you feel this overwhelming urge to satisfy a type of "itch" or discomfort in certain muscles or areas on the body, including making certain vocalizations.
