I would like to point out that most household birds are also herbivores.

That's why real men get falcons.

Actually dogs are omnivores. They can eat anything. However, lack of protein isn't a good thing.

Eh, plenty of ways to get protein without meat.
Beans and lentils for example.

Dogs, while being omnivores, have predominantly carnivorous physical traits.

Inculded in these traits is the inability to ferment cellulose and derive glucose from it, meaning that your dog's energy requirements will probably not be met on a vegan diet.

Dogs are also unable to synthesise 10 various amino acids, making these aminos essential in their diet. Unfortunately, the vegan dog food in OP's post lacks most of these, and even the ones they've added to the mix (Taurine and L Carnitine) come predominantly from, you guessed it, seafood and meat.

TL;DR Feed your ******* dog actual food.

I went vegan for almost a year. Not strict or anything would still eat beef on special occasions. Mostly though everyone just loved me because I carried peanut butter with me at all times.

Short answer: No.

Long Answer: Yes, but no.

Dogs are not obligate carnivores but they are not true omnivores either. They are carnivores with the ability to digest starch which expands the ability to eat other foods. A Dogs diet should be mainly animal protein, vegetables, and very few grains.

My dogs are actually best on a fish based diet because where their breed was developed fish is the main source of protein.

now before mimicking the anger in the content may I remind you that dogs are omnivorous, and if the food has the right minerals in it dogs can survive without meat just like humans (maybe a bit cruel to force your way of life on an animal that can't chose for itself) so if it is balanced enough to be put on sale it would be like overpriced dog food, and it will be mega overpriced it's food marketed toward vegans.
So in summary it scams extra money out of vegans, does not kill the pet they are forcing their lifestyle on, and you get to call them a hypocrite for forcing their lifestyle on a poor animal.

meat has more proteins than the veggies used in faux meat and is in total, more healthy and manufacturable.

Dogs are omnivores but they lack the proper enzymes to digest (and acquire nutrition from) most vegetation. So it is far healthier for them to consume primarily animal based protein, and some dog breeds really can die from malnutrition if you feed them vegan food.

However, this has a large variance due to the large variance in dog breeds.

Surely it isn't poisonous, but depending on the breed of dog they will become malnourished. They will likely survive but they definitely won't thrive on that diet.

Pretty lame how many people talk from a perspective of absolutely zero knowledge regarding veganism. I know a few people with vegan dogs and all of them are much healthier than people I know with non vegan dogs, although admittedly the people with vegan dogs give a **** enough about their pets that they take them out for exercise regularly. Pretty much every person I know that has a non-vegan dog has an obese, unhealthy, slowly dying dog.

So I don't know, think what you want, but just be aware that you sound like a complete tool.

I'm talking from a biologist standpoint. Anecdotal evidence is insufficient for scientific inquiry, although I'm glad the vegans you know take such good care of their pets.

This is also why (on a side note) the Human digestive system is so weird, as we are omnivores so developed in both hunting and foraging that our digestion is closest to that of pigs, rather than other ape species. Humans are ******* ridiculous animals, really.

well, a theory is that we are like that because we ourselves are domesticated animals and evolved our biology to fit that of a passive animal. like a common pig

... a more likely theory is that we are a plains hominid that had to eat anything it could find in order to survive, thus coinciding with the way our eyes developed, our vocal cords and PFC that allow us to engage in incredibly complex social communication, our incredibly high stamina, and our extreme sexual dimorphism.

Just ask a vet if you should give a healthy dog vegan dog food, they'll look at you at as a monstrosity. (It usually causes long-term health problems that I can't be assed to explain).
How do I know, well my dad was a Veterinary surgeon.. I mean I do agree with laughing at vegans, but vegan dog food does cause harm in the long-run... So I'm gonna happily mimic the anger in the content, even if they whole science part isn't then it's essentially correct.
Also before you ask about the long-term part. Google is your lord.

I find it hilarious how some vegans completely forget that there are other carnivorous animals in the world, and think that us choosing to eat meat makes us monsters. there are some animal rights activists that think if they set a zoo fulll of animals free, they would just live in harmony off of the fruits and berries and totally not die.

I might be mistaken, but Vegan isn't a legally defined term like "Organic," so in theory, couldn't you put "Vegan" on the front and have "contains meat products" on the back in tiny ass font? (like "antibacterial" soap... sort of.)
Gif unrelated.

One of my dogs was allergic to animal protein when he was a puppy. We tried to feed him vegan food, but that only made him feel sick. He constantly threw up and **** pretty much everywhere in the house because of it.

We switched to food for allergic dog instead, which contains already processed animal protein, which he could eat with no problem. And today, he only has a problem with pork, he can eat all other types of meat.
I wouldn't feed that crap to a dog unless i had NO other choice.

Pic related, that's him.
