Trying to get a degree (especially finishing the ******* thesis) made me realize my attention span is so ******* short, it takes me hours of ******* around to actually get down to work. How does one fix this?

On a completely unrelated note, are there any viable semi-legal drugs with effects like amphetamine?

Just gotta gut-check, man.

Go somewhere with no distractions (library), sit your ass down, tell yourself not to open any tabs but work ones. Listen to yourself.

You can do it

Alternatively. Go see a doctor about ADD/ADHD if it becomes too much of a problem.

I have the same problem with coding. I have a very stern interest in it, but i take a course online, and if i cant do something I cant figure out why i'm wrong. They just give you the answer so I never feel like i learn anything. I wish i had a friend who would tell me "Hey that is wrong and this is why" like a teacher would.

Granted: You now have an invisible friend. He is a conservative muslim vegan.

These are about as addictive...
For study, I found this process got me through University when I finally figured out what to do to stop laziness. No Skittles, + 1 hour study then 1 hour play. Repeat. However, 1 hour study must be the hardest stuff first. If your feeling good, exactly 2hour study, then 2 hour play. Play was reading a fun book or doing something relaxing. Sometimes, if you worked longer, play time would also increase. Eventually, you might change the percentages, 60% work to 40% play. But 50%/50% is a good start. Psychologically, you associate hard work with instant relax and fun shortly after. Stick to the clock to make it work effectively.

i will try, I've come to the conclusion that my strict education thought me that hard work actually takes relaxation away ( i was allays punished or grounded for not making a perfect/efficient job). I Have two dogs now and in the beginning i was applying the same method to them, didn't felt so good, did some research and found out that positive reinforcement is more legit. That's what made me realize the exact opposite was made to me, negative reinforcement towards work and expressing myself

I used to have the same problem in high school, my solution was to find some background music that wasn't too distracting. (no singing or anything else that would make you pay more attention to it.) If you're anything like me, It keeps you from looking for other stuff to do.

It's incredibly easy to get adderall. There are hundreds of guides on the internet that show how to answer questions that a physician asks when you tell them you have difficulty concentrating.

If you promise not to do this often then do it.
Aspirin in the morning, and a cup of coffee immediately after.
It shifts your heart into overdrive, and dilates your veins so that your heart can pump easier with less fatigue. Beware of the consequences... this is only meant to fight off hangovers. There is no telling what kind of power and danger comes with this.

Since I'm a master of wasting time, this site helped me a bunch at uni. Block facebook, email, and especially youtube/funnyjunk for a few hours. Sit in the library where there's no distractions and knuckle the **** down

I heard taking a strong pre-workout can work similar to adderall.

Exercising can help you focus. Get some exercise and write. I would recommend body weight stuff if you want to stay in your home. 10 minutes can do wonders for your concentration.

I have the SAME exact problem. I can do 1 hwk problem every 2 hours. I realized my mind is overflowing with energy.

If my mind is a bowl of soup and focusing on the task at hand is drinking the soup, I can't because the bowl keeps overflowing and spilling onto my lap.

What you have to do is siphon off the excess energy. My main trick is putting on a long playlist of music that I know the words to very well. Then I sing along while doing the homework. I know the words so well that I don't even have to focus to sing along yet at the same time it draws away the excess energy and I can focus on the task properly. Try it and good luck.

Hey I'm actually trying to write my thesis right now (so guess what I'm doing here). I just douse my veins with caffeine to keep my head in the right place. I also usually wait 'till the deadline is right there so that I get my stress-mode on. Usually does the job better and quicker.

Good luck with your thesis mate.
