He has been playing forever, hes ******* old and **** but still acts like a 20 year old in certain ways. He is 43 (thats pretty old for the NHL) and last year said he wants to play for another 10 years. He has not wife and parties with all te young guys and for his age and mileage still does a decent job. Not the greatest but pretty good considering.

He retired at the age of 52, and managed to net 41 points in his last season with the Whalers. I don't know why you would retire when you can still compete among the best players in the world.
As for 35 year olds being instructors, there's no point. There are already great instructors that have more experience and are better teachers than them. What most teams need are veterans that can be leaders and teach youngsters on the ice. There are things that you can't learn solely from instructors. Just look at the Florida Panthers. Jágr played alongside 2 young players: Jonathan Huberdeau and Aleksander Barkov. Even though they are incredibly talented players, they still need to learn in order for them to reach their potential. I'd doubt that they would have had a good season without Jágr towards the end of the season.
When you don't have older leaders like that, you get a ****** team. You can get the most talented youngsters every year and still be the worst team. The Edmonton Oilers are in that situation right now, and they still suck. They've had 4 of the last 6 first overall picks and they still are in the bottom 3 every year.
Older players also do not hinder the teams chance of winning. Teams usually sign depth players that do not play on the regular roster. They sign those players in case of injuries. And most depth players are usually in their late 30s.

But if he is the best they got why get rid of him just because of age? As soon as he starts taking up the spot of a younger kid that is better than him then can him. Otherwise keep him if he is better than not only some of his younger teammates but some of the guys in that entire organization (AHL included)

Je to pičovina a sám to víš. Za prvé co se týče kanadských bodů byl v těch týmech vždycky nahoře takže očividně jim někam pomohl.
Za druhé jak už tu psali ti nademnou síla těchto starých hráčů nespočívá jen v tom kolik nasází kanadských bodů ale jak předají svoje zkušenosti mladším hráčům a pomůžou mladším zvládat určitý situace což je natolik cená pomoc, že to plně vykompenzuje. NHL je plná týmů nacpaných mladýma perspektivníma hráčema co hrajou úplnou piču rok co rok.
