It's true. i got this off of the we love atheism page on facebook but it could not be more true for me even if i had come up with it myself. VINE! A. Evolution is "just a theory" though. It's a widely accepted theory with plenty of evidence to back it up, but at the end of the day it's just a theory evolution Religion stupid people

Evolution is "just a theory" though. It's a widely accepted theory with plenty of evidence to back it up, but at the end of the day it's just a theory, because we can't 100% prove anything.

note: theory =/= hypothesis.

Technically even gravity is a theory.

Technically, Evoloution is a theory. It's a very sound theory, with lots evidence, but it still can't be proven, because it can't be tested.

It's perfectly reasonable to believe in evoloution, but that doesn't mean it can be proven as fact.

If you make posts like these I automatically know you're a ******* idiot.

Evolution is just a theory. Loads of stuff taught in schools as facts are theories, like Bohr's model of an atom. They're just most likely factual, but aren't 100% proven.

how are you a ******* idiot if it is 100% true that it is a theory and not fact

My Biology teacher described it an interesting way.

Basically paraphrasing what he said: "A theory is the highest possible result that scientific testing can get It means that as is, its evidence been tested, checked, studied and experimented on numerous times, and thus far it has yet to be disproven. However, because of the nature of science, nothing in science can ever 100% be proven to be true or untrue, and perhaps there may one day come evidence that changes things, which does happen. My dog could like hamburgers because aliens from Jupiter are beaming information into his mind. You can't disprove it, though it lacks any credibility because it lacks evidence and can't be tested or studied. A theory however can be tested and observed, meaning it has significant credibility.

That's why I can't stand it when people say "laws of science", especially in biology which is less about math. I feel the only reason why they call it a "law" in science is because the word "theory" in the modern everyman lexicon is synonymous with guess or hypothesis. In other words, they want to avoid people saying "it's just a theory", as if a theory means it's just a guess or hypothesis that has yet to be proven whatsoever and lacks credibility."

Evolution doesn't exist. I've been training my brother and he's level 16 but still hasn't evolved
Please get the joke

**Dwarf rolled a random image posted in comment #91 at 1.. 2.. 3.. GO ** It is a theory though. There is plenty of evidence to back it up, but there is nothing proving it 100%.

Pretty much nothing outside of mathematical and logical axioms can ever be proven 100%.

but, evolution is just a theory, isn't it?
i mean, even the Evolution wikipedia page refers to it as a theory (for your convenience )
and, based on the merriam-webster dictionary definition of Theory ( ), i think "theory" describes evolution pretty well
while there is strong evidence to support it, there isn't any solid, concrete evidence saying that Evolution as an absolute (at least not to my knowledge, if there is, please enlighten me)

The reason people get annoyed by the phrase "evolution is just a theory" is less because of the word "theory" and more due to the word "just", in the world of science, a complex idea can only be described as a theory when it is the absolute best explanation we have. Saying "just a theory" implies that its only an idea, which in scientific terms, an idea has less backing than a hypothesis even.

The implication that the theory is merely a wild idea is what annoys people.

Also, gravity is a theory. There are laws to explain it, but "gravity" itself is "just a theory".

This is why, when people like Richard Dawkins are presented with "evolution is just a theory" by people professing intelligent design (I'm not asserting that you are, but this is a good example to illustrate my point), he often replies with "gravity is just a theory". People who use less respectful terminology say things along the lines of "gravity is just a theory, so please float away".

"just a theory" isn't a thing in the world of science. Its the best explanation out there

I like how everyone in the comments is pointing out the same technicality, despite the fact that it's almost clear that the picture implies people who simply dismiss evolution as garbage.

Yes, you guys are right. It's technically a theory, but this massive circle jerk of comments in agreement of pointing that out might be a tad unnecessary.

Except in all scientific purposes, it is; everything remains a theory no matter how valid it seems. The 'just' a theory is a little dismissive, but they're not wrong.

I'm automatically going to assume most have no idea what the term 'survival of the fittest' was intended to mean, since very few people have actually read On the Origin of Species

Evolution is why we need to make new vaccinations every year.
Evolution is why insects are becoming immune to pesticides.
Evolution is why wolves have become domesticated over the years to become dogs.
Evolution accounts for fossil records which shows how much or how little organisms have changed over time.

Jesus ******* Christ, why is FJ so ******* dense on the matter by trying to refute it. It's true that it's not 100% absolute but it's by far the most plausible model on the origins of life. This is not even a god damn Atheism vs religion thing, I believe in Islam myself and even I accept Evolution and Big Bang in my life.

Science guy here!

In Science:
A theory is the highest degree of credibility a suggestion can get.
What ordinary people mean (and sometimes even scientists) when they say Theory is Hypothesis.

Furthermore it leads to a lot of confusion that pop-Science names things like String theory, which is not a theory and only remotely science (it is an unprovable hypothesis and therefore it's kind of redundant).

Short: Evolution is a theory and it's been proven multiple times. So OP's hypothesis is correct.

it's kinda like watching a man with a chainsaw covered in blood and gore walk out of a store containing 3 freshly dead and maimed bodies, and saying "it's just a theory that he killed those people nobody can prove it you didn't see it"

When they think of THEORY what they are really thinking of is HYPOTHESIS.
