And following on the criticism and view of the fans, and what the fans wanted they switched it. so yes, 'after claiming that it cant be " switched off" '

They could like you know, not listen to what the consumers are saying they want and dont want?

Why if I may ask?
Most laptops have a "active" indicator led that cannot be dimmed if the webcame is active (hardware controlled) and even if it didn't have that what would they see that's so bloody secret? Let them watch me jack off or eat out my nose. I don't get all that privacy fuzz.

The real important thing is to keep your money safe from criminals, the government will find out whatever it wants to know anyway and the harder you make it for them the more likely they are to treat you as a suspect.

No, because there's still people like you who didn't know they changed anything. They were basically making a box like steam that had requirements set so they could get the thing started in the first place, but many console gamers are vehemently against such a massive change for a box they've used for 7 years.

How is it in any way like a Steam box? They clearly just wanted an excuse to jimmy in extra **** that gamers don't want so they can hike the price up, and the first public incarnation of the Xbox One served as a convenient scapegoat.

For one, I didn't say it was like the Steam box. That outperforms the PS4 and Xbox One by miles.

Second, no, none of that is true. It was a box that allowed you to control all your games digitally with a heavy focus on a digital market. No one on PC cares about used games. And other than the once every 24 hour check in, there really wasn't anything to complain about (and even that isn't much to complain about). This is exactly what happened when Steam was first released. Many PC gamers hated it. If I could find it I would show you the gif of the steam logo going up a guys ass that used to circulate on forums.

As for putting the Kinect in that "Gamers don't want", they're at least putting the thing in so devs will develop for it unlike the Kinect 1.0, the Move, and the Playstation Eye (which Sony not only basically killed, they attempted to bury it). It could be a very nice device that can only enhance how games are played.

We all know Steam was **** at first, but most of its design hiccups were actually demanded by game publishing companies, back when it was still in vogue to completely rape someone's computer for the sake of protecting copyright. They also didn't have the crazy ass sales they do now.
And I never said it was bad to include default peripherals by default, that is a good thing (the GamePad that comes with the Wii U actually became prevalent enough that there are projects to get it to work on desktop computers as general purpose devices!). However, I have no reason to believe that the original, nightmarish usage terms like requiring the device to be always on were actually thought of as convenient.

...You do realize that is exactly the same situation the Xbox One was in a few months ago, right?

That wasn't entirely their fault. It was only after the Bradley Manning and Edward Snowden ordeals did people really start to care again. If neither of those events had infuriated the public to that degree, or hadn't happened at all, there would be barely anyone opposed to Kinect being always connected. It would be a slight inconvenience that would never really inconvenience anyone. The most likely case for the requirement was only to give more of an incentive to developers (they really put down a great deal of their money on making this Kinect) that not only would everyone who purchased an Xbox One have it, they would all have it connected and ready to use.

Yeah they say if you turn it off in the settings it still does "IR blasting", whatever the hell that is. But they have also said that the Xbox will still work if you completely unplug the Kinect if you don't want it plugged in for privacy reasons or it falls off your TV and breaks, etc.

Google wiretap law amendment May 2013. The Obama administration is preparing to back this proposal. It didn't get much media attention, just like most of our networking ********. Another example is how the Chinese government admitted to planting "logic bombs" within our power grid that can be remote "detonated." We can't do anything about it because to fix it, our power grid would have to go down for a week. Sure that's not bad, but then it takes approx 5-10 minutes for our missile defense program to reboot to run on generators. A lot can happen with missiles in those 10 minutes you know.
