What I do know, from what I have seen, is that they had to give Aquaman this obscene apathy about Atlantis in general to be able to justify having him hang around at all. I don't wanna spoil it much, but basically Joker ***** up big time in metropolis, pisses off Superman, and Superman flips, pretty much all superheroes have to side with or against Supes. He more or less becomes a sort of supreme dictator of Earth, rivals kinda being led by Batman. It's been going for a few years now, introducing and killing off lots of characters. It's kinda like a comic series dedicated to the Batman v. Superman thing.
