if you are gullible/stupid enough to believe a software update can make a phone water proof you deserve everything that happens to it

I have a watch that's waterproof but I was never man enough to put that to the test.

I don't think we can REALLY call a watch waterproof until it can function at the bottom of the Mariana Trench.
User avatar #30 to #22 - kraagmar (10/07/2013) [-]
At that point, it's more about the pressure. I mean, the watch would be more durable than the human body at that point.

every watch i have ever owned has spent more than its fair share of time under water and they never broke, my current one's strap is a bit naff from water damage but it still keeps time just fine

Probably one of the greatest achievements that 4Chan has ever did

I mean, besides the absolute valid point that people must be brain dead to assume a software can make their phones waterproof, why would you try that in the first place?
I mean, only because it says "not inflameable" on the product, do you desperately try to set it on fire? I mean, what kind of logic is that? This is a ******* 500 dollar phone, why would you even risk that? People who lost their phones over that deserve it... and they should go back to frigging elementary school.

"It is, of course, extremely toxic, but that's the least of the problem. It is hypergolic with every known fuel, and so rapidly hypergolic that no ignition delay has ever been measured. It is also hypergolic with such things as cloth, wood, and test engineers, not to mention asbestos, sand, and water — with which it reacts explosively. It can be kept in some of the ordinary structural metals — steel, copper, aluminum, etc. — because of the formation of a thin film of insoluble metal fluoride which protects the bulk of the metal, just as the invisible coat of oxide on aluminum keeps it from burning up in the atmosphere. If, however, this coat is melted or scrubbed off, and has no chance to reform, the operator is confronted with the problem of coping with a metal-fluorine fire. For dealing with this situation, I have always recommended a good pair of running shoes." -Dr. John Clark

its not stupid to believe that, seeing as a lack of technical knowledge doesnt make somebody undeserving of a phone.
the stupid thing is people who deliberately threw their phones into ponds and **** to test it out

If you can't take care of a pet, it dies. If you can't take care of your tech, it dies.
User avatar #13 to #11 - enkmaster (10/07/2013) [-]
If you dont have enough sense to take care of your technology, then you shouldnt have it. Thats wasteful. People should at least do some research before doing stupid **** with their phones.

hardware, not software.

The magazine got it wrong, the ad was referring to the new iPhone 5.
User avatar #31 to #8 - fukkendragonite (10/07/2013) [-]
I can see why you got confused since both are relatively new (and waterproof hardware is at least possible) but the spoof poster was about iOS 7
