Lemme tell you why that's ********

The AI had correctly placed the foot where it needed to be,
but the gear-based servo appears to strip its gear and it ends up slipping on the rotary
joint in the knee.
The rest of the body immediately collapses on it, but note that the footstep had successfully been planted on the next step before the mechanical failure.

The AI was well coordinated, as well as the sensory systems.
Despite having a plethora of joints, its body is slow in order to accommodate for mechanical strength.

If the joints were directly hooked up via motors without gears, they would often be very loose, and overheat easily due to the constant use of electricity, not to mention the inefficiency of gathering torque. To compensate for the stiffness, it uses a gear system that holds parts in place during movements, and a motor rotates a piston that runs in spirals that allows it to convert the rotary torque of the electric motor into slow, kinetic energy, thus allowing it to move its considerably heavy plastic parts.

Quadcopter motors ALSO operate on this princicple. They use smaller propellers, but the aerodynamic drag of the propellers prevents them from making sudden movements in mid air. As quadcopters, all 4 propellers must be in harmony to eachother, and must balance their torques accordingly to prevent the craft from rotating in mid air. In fact, quadcopters use torque imbalances in order to turn left and right without a Y-axis propulsion system that helicopters have(the side propeller).

In Asimo's case, its motor-gear system is accurate, powerful, and robust, however because it uses plastic parts, its gears can sometimes crack, strip, and even bend.
Thus.... the issue of the falling here was due to the fact that it is overweight by design, and one of its gears gave out, causing the fall.

Furthermore, it had no hope of trying to catch itself in midfall because gear-motor systems are slow and unresponsive, at the price of strength.

who cares? It's Asimo... it's only made for show and not to be functional or practical. Petman ***** all over Asimo's speed, precision, strength and everything.

I mean sure Asimo is nice and everything, but it's no more than a newer version of the "robot dog" from 10 years ago.

Actually it has several intended future purposes, but it's still in preparation for the consumer stage.

you know what i mean. it's a bad design from 2000... no matter what they want with it, it won't achieve anything else than being a "toy". (at this rate anyway)
also there is no AI... so not sure why you'd bring it up.

petman while still being in development is far better in every way than asimo (well...except it can't talk or dance...) you should see it in real life... it's really scary

I had that ********** as well, but that would make more sense if it was in the title and not in the content
