I'm not going to spoil anything either but as much as I dislike the tone and brand of humor that is Rick and Morty's bread and butter, hearing about that episode as well as how depressed Rick is genuinely makes me want to watch it. The parts where Morty pretty much almost gets raped were interesting enough when they were new but they've been ramping up the series pretty well from what I can tell.

What? I'm saying I don't like Rick and Morty because I don't enjoy the show but I do know that it handles serious real-life things very well. I don't watch much TV or movies so I'm very picky about it what I do decide to watch. I'm trying to complement it. It has guts and doesn't chicken out, it plays these deeply serious things out to their conclusions and doesn't gloss over the full impact.

That's kind of hard to do for the same reason it's a pain in the butt to go through a person's twitter feed when they make a bajillion posts per day.
You basically need to find someone who supported that mess initially but now does not. Twitter isn't something that can really be lumped together like "reddit" and "funnyjunk" because it's much more like "twitter" where there is nothing binding anyone to someone else's posts unless they use the same tags or follow each other. The site is basically whatever you want it to be because from the very beginning you are always choosing what kind of content you want to see.

01: The show hasn't aired yet so I can't tell if the episode title is actually related. But if they resort to unrelated pop culture refferences from episode 1, that's a huge red flag already. Every pop culture refference is a wasted opportunity for something original.

02: Okay, this isn't a troll, so let's see... this post is just blowing things out of proportion, vilifying gamers by asociating them with the anons who took the trailer down and doesn't even know why people criticise this show (it's not because of the characters, it's because the show is trying to jump the "gender discrimination" bandwagon or whatever they call it these days.)

I sent this to the official tumblr ask page: The show caught my attention but you need to hire better episode writers in the future. The show seems to be banking on the race/sex/gender of the people making it and the characters themselves more than on the general quality of the writing. Good luck!
I wonder if they'll actually say something about that. It's pretty much the main reason why I think the show is so bad. They care more about shoehorning certain things in and pushing an agenda than they do real quality stuff. If the enthusiasm and the inspiration are there, the talent sure isn't. I hope the positive statement at the end, as false as it is, will make it more likely that they'll respond or acknowledge it.

The "down to earth" story of FLCL is that this girl likes this kid's brother, but the kid likes the girl and tries getting her affection.. Problem is that there's another girl that comes in, randomly flirts with him like she's going to **** a kid, and the kid has robots that come out of his forehead. The only semi-down-to-earth part of that entire 7 episode series is when he yells at the girl, telling her his brother is gone and he protects her. Besides that, there's no down-to-earth story at all.
Rick and Morty is down to earth. It's a ******* show about a family that the parents hated each other and stayed together only because of the children, only to realize that they actually do love each other and stayed together because of the love, not because of the kids, all while the grandfather has a deepening sadness of loneliness inside of him, and when he finally reunites with one of his loves and has a hope at happiness, she realizes that he's a bad influence and leaves him for good, causing him to almost commit suicide and realize just how horrible of a human being he is and needs to change.
That's ******* down-to-earth.

I'm gonna say it's the live action just being easier to relate to, while having and investing more time into characters to make you care about them.
The Doctor, his companions, and the people they meet along the way get at least 4 times the screen time any character in Rick and Morty gets.
Characters in Doctor Who die all the time, but they're casualties of battle or disaster or the monster of the week. When they die, it's a tragedy, because every life is precious, and it motivates the other characters to solve the problem at hand, sometimes it's even a meaningful and heroic sacrifice.
Characters in Rick and Morty die horrible painful deaths at random, and often in vain.
Both deal with the concept of being this tiny insignificant part of infinity.
The Doctor believes that life and the universe is beautiful and that everything has a purpose and reason. He keeps running because there's so much to see and do, because despite all the losses, there's always something better out there, and something worth protecting.
Rick and Morty live in a setting ground in the cold fact of reality. "Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's gonna die. Come watch TV." Life is meaningless and random, you don't even have a place in the universe, everyone and everything you ever have and ever will love is an accident, and will meet it's end soon enough. Your only hope against simply giving up and letting this empty and short existence run it's course, is to distract yourself and try and invest your own meaning into things.
There isn't this fantastic and clever man out there, who never gives up and always tries his best, hoping that he can make sure that everybody lives. No man with a box traveling time and space to find adventure with just the right amount of eccentricity to get the job done. No. There's just Rick. Some asshole out to make a quick buck off of his vast knowledge and inventions. Or, maybe he's just bored, throwing down a portal and going to wreck some havoc, because why the **** not? No greater motivation, no respect for life, no ***** left to give.
You're right. Doctor Who does have more drama. More scripts and characters to entertain you. Characters with some meaning and purpose, plots of intrigue and adventure. Rick and Morty is just a window into a reality where the boarders of sanity, logic and reason have committed suicide because they can't handle the facts of life, so the world is full of possibilities and more exciting than ours.
An interesting note, the new episode comes out on my Birthday. Hooray!
