Apparently this newer phones have accelerometers in them and the app uses them to gauge how long the phone has been in free fall. However if you drop it out of a plane or some extreme height the app gets all ***** and throws back an error. Either way, its a good app. Lots of fun and everyone should play it if they get the chance.

Why would apple do that? More broken phones =more money its not like theres quality control in the app store anyway
#31 to #15 - vvthegreats (11/03/2015) [-]
Because Apple isn't as money-hungry as people make them out to be. Also, warranties man.
#33 to #31 - shineydragonite (11/03/2015) [-]
You're wrong.
#35 to #33 - vvthegreats (11/03/2015) [-]
Prove it. Sure, they may be a business, but warranties would make Apple have to give free iPhones that are covered in the time frame of the warranty. Nice job circle jerking each other via disliking my comment. Reeeeeaaaaal cool.
#37 to #35 - shineydragonite (11/03/2015) [-]
Apple has great tech and software, but greedy as **** . You need special tools just to get into one of their products and the few replacement parts they offer are atleast triple a realistic asking price. And finally, I give you an Apple brand pointy stick.
#39 to #37 - vvthegreats (11/03/2015) [-]
Really? The deal I had on my phone was within the first year if it broke, AT&T would ask for Apple to send a new phone for free. I didn't break it. And if there are any problems, they will still send you a new one (that's what they did for the bending iPhone 6 and the battery problem of the iPhone 5S). I guess I don't have a personal experience of them being greedy af, neither do any of my friends.
User avatar #41 to #39 - shineydragonite (11/03/2015) [-]
Might be cause youre going through AT&T instead of Apple. Apple phones cost a $200 or so to make and they charge 300% that.
User avatar #68 to #41 - ChewyConor (11/03/2015) [-]
Markup % doesn't say much though. If they make $400 profit per phone they sell and invest $350 of that into development of the next model or other products or customer support etc. then it's hardly greed.
I'm not saying they do put the vast majority of profits into stuff like that but a good chunk must be going that way so markup means jack **** .

I used to work for Dyson selling vacuums, fans, etc. and often got the same criticism of overpriced products, but I know for a fact that 2/3 of their markup gets reinvested automatocally and a large portion of their actual profit goes to stuff like the James Dyson Foundation.
User avatar #70 to #68 - shineydragonite (11/03/2015) [-]
They absolutely do that but looking at the Galaxy s6, it costs $300 to make and costs about the same as the iphone 6. Apple either puts way too much into developing slightly better tech or someone is pocketing fistfuls of money.
User avatar #63 to #39 - furrylove ONLINE (11/03/2015) [-]
Apple is the reigning king corporation of making people hail their money-hoarding as new and innovative security measures. Icloud lock? Oh sure we'll brick the phone for you, but we're not going to go through the trouble of putting the four different methods of tracking we've built into your phone to use to get the phone back to you. Iphone 6 and 6+ also have the glorious error 53. Tore your home button dropping your phone? Did a repair kiosk tear it and try to cover it up by just throwing a new one in there? Welp, wait for the next update to roll out or for your phone to go into recovery mode and you have a nice $600+ paperweight that apple won't help you fix. Can't tell you how many customers came in to our shop with error 53 and swore off Apple after they learned there was nothing we or anyone else can do for them.
User avatar #40 to #35 - kurtlanglie (11/03/2015) [-]
Warranties aren't original to Apple, guy, and their warranties are far more strict and shorter lasting than most if not all of the other companies in the marketplace.

It's been proven over and over that they are one of the worst offenders of charging for brand recognition in the world, even when compared to products that have superior capability. Put the latest IPhone next to another phone of a different brand with identical processing and storage capacity, and Apple will charge up to twice as much for it because of their brand.

I won't bother to post one of so many images demonstrating this comparison because I'm too lazy to google it in another tab.
#42 to #40 - vvthegreats (11/03/2015) [-]
I never said they are original and I never implied such a statement. They are a full year long and that is reasonable enough.
User avatar #44 to #42 - kurtlanglie (11/03/2015) [-]
You didn't imply it? It was the thing you were fixating on in your posts. Getting a free phone with a warranty isn't anything special and certainly shouldn't be the reason to get an Apple product over anything else.

ESPECIALLY considering the warranty is only for a year. I just got a new Android Turbo last month and its warranty is after two years, which is when I'm due for an upgrade, when they will give me a warranty on it. Mind you, the warranty I have on it and the next one I will get cost me nothing.

So leaving the warranty out of it, it still doesn't justify the fact that Apple charges a bunch for their brand alone, and there is no defending against that.
#48 to #44 - vvthegreats (11/03/2015) [-]
I was saying how Apple has a warranty also, not that they invented one. Nice assumptions kid. But, yes, i see your point.
User avatar #64 to #48 - kurtlanglie (11/03/2015) [-]
You didn't just mention that they have warranties, you went to length in building up how good they are when they are comparatively mediocre next to everything else out there.

By the way, +1 Internet Cool Guy points for doing your best DeviantArt Sonic OC impression.

throwing your phone into the air is generally not covered by warranty or insurance, that comes under intentional damage
User avatar #38 to #35 - blindpone (11/03/2015) [-]
Apple's warranties do not cover dropping.
#67 to #38 - skebaba (11/03/2015) [-]
As they shouldn't, since that's a user fault, not a technical one.
User avatar #66 to #31 - thatdesignerguy (11/03/2015) [-]
warranties cover damage from throwing the **** ? but other than that you're right, they are way more "money-hungry" than people make them out to be.

Story time.
My friend once left his 2nd gen ipod in his trousers when he washed them and ruined it, so at school he started throwing it up in the air as high as he could above the concrete to get it to break open (We were 14 at the time) . The screen cracked after the first landing, but basically it was no worse off for all the other times. After about an hour of this he got bored and left it with me; said I could keep what was left.
So I took it home to salvage the battery for my ipod, and on the way it started flashing in my pocket, though it was completely dead before. So I charged it and low and behold it had recovered.
I kept it for about 2 months more, had the screen fixed, and gave it back to him for his birthday.

Pic is just a cracked ipod before you reverse search to call ******** on me
