Saw the IT Tech stories on here a few weeks ago and i commented one of my stories and looks like people enjoyed it.
So here are a few of mine. I am a IT tech in a rural area and mostly deal with break fix repairs and virus removal, but I am trained in high end server deployment and development.
So 2 stories here because they aren't that long.
Never open iPhoto:
This has happened on a number of occasions where I have to open the photo library to do repairs on the database or upgrade it to a new version etc.
Old lady comes in and says her photo's won't sync to her iPhone, go through the normal troubleshooting after being told her life story and all about her cute dog....
Ask her to open iPhoto first 20+ pics are of her on a bed with her partner..... Yes exactly what you think. I close the laptop lid quickly and ask her to remove the photo's that she doesn't want other to see, She says no these are the photo's that won't sync.........
Point blank I say to her unfortunately I can not help with those particular photo's as it is not appropriate. She leaves in a rush telling me I am a horrible person for not liking true beauty or some **** like that.
The magically unplugged cable:
Us techs do not joke when we ask is it plugged in and turned on, the number of times I have gone onsite to plug in a cable is ridiculous.
We deal with some larger companies as sub contractors for commission , decommission and maintenance of banks, law firms etc
Get a call that a computer is no longer connecting to the network and no user can logon to it, we just swap entire computers to save time with this particular company. I call the business to do some basic troubleshooting because the IT help desk they call don't know **** about anything. Ask if the network cable is plugged in, the customer says yes it is. I travel 80km to the site, I check the back of the computer the cable is plugged in, pull the desk out, find a unplugged cable.... show the customer, oh it must of fallen out..... I show them the functioning clip that locks it into the wall plate and then show them the recent marks in the carpet proving someone had moved the desk.
plug the cable in reboot magically works. Report this to the help desk they say I still have to replace the machine.... call the next level up and report the stupidity and charged them double for the wasted trip.
want more??? let us know, plenty more such as the no one ever empties their recycle bin or I don't look at porn stories.
