Make sure you wash that **** thoroughly with shampoo, beards are like cesspools of bacteria. Hygiene is your friend.
User avatar #18 to #15 - italianfrosttroll (12/03/2015) [-]
Conditioner not shampoo. And beard oil to keep it tame.
User avatar #19 to #18 - limerslimer (12/03/2015) [-]
************ , conditioner wont CLEAN that bitch, just make it soft. Y'all needs to shampoo the ****** thoroughly, condition, then dry it out with a towel/blow dryer.
User avatar #20 to #19 - italianfrosttroll (12/03/2015) [-]
Shampoos not good for your beard bro. I'm no beard pro but I did a lot of research back when.I had one. Could be wrong, could be right.
User avatar #21 to #20 - limerslimer (12/03/2015) [-]
"Not good for beards" that's bull. Shampoo is made to specifically clean hair.
User avatar #24 to #21 - Darianvincent (12/03/2015) [-]
Shampooing your beard? Somebodies never had a beard before, or knowledge of how facial skin is different from your scalp.
User avatar #22 to #21 - italianfrosttroll (12/03/2015) [-]
Hair from the top of your head. Beard hair is different. Its more akin to pubes. It has no natural oils, so shampoo tends to dry it out and make it get nasty and itchy as **** .
User avatar #37 to #22 - reaperriley ONLINE (12/03/2015) [-]
Or ya know, you could be a normal person and use some logic here. Shampoo is soap, its there to clean your hair. Conditioner is there to maintain it. You shampoo it to clean it, then you put conditioner in there afterwards to add the oils it need. Ya know, just like you do for hair.

Since you say beards dont generate oil of their own, and conditioner adds said oil. Why not shampoo it first?
User avatar #54 to #37 - italianfrosttroll (12/04/2015) [-]
Conditioner isnt what oils it. ************* oil oil's it. Callin me dumb when all it takes is a simple google search or talk with your barber to know I'm right. I tried explaining it to you with how it is, but your dumb ass seems to be quite obtuse, and hell bent on arguing from ignorance.
User avatar #56 to #54 - reaperriley ONLINE (12/04/2015) [-]
I dont know what barber or hairstylists you talk to, but everyone I have talked to says to use conditioner to moisturize/that conditioner makes your hair oily.

I mean **** , dude, I even googled it and it says "Hair conditioners may contain moisturizers, oils and sunscreen, among other ingredients."

Im fighting you on the fact that you say that you shouldnt ever shampoo a beard, and im not seeing a reason not to. In fact I see more of a reason to. So why dont you take your salty ass and just leave the info that you left and let people make their own decision.
User avatar #57 to #56 - italianfrosttroll (12/04/2015) [-]
I said it befire and I'll say it again. Shampoo is not good for beards. The hair on your head? Yeah, every day. It will dry your beard hair more than you can repair with conditioner and oil. That's all there is to it. Your logic soubds good, but that's just not how it works, becayse beard hair is not just any hair, and shampoo is not good for it. I don't think I can make it any clearer.
User avatar #58 to #57 - reaperriley ONLINE (12/04/2015) [-]
Every single source I have found says to wash your beard just like you wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner. They all just say to not wash it with the same soap you use to wash the rest of your body.

I mean **** , you compare beard hair to pubic hair. Which would imply to just use regular soap. Here is what I dont get, you suggest to just use conditioner, which isnt used to clean hair but to change its appearance and texture, and even moisturize/oil it. But it doesnt clean it. Thats what shampoo is for. So what do I use instead of shampoo.

I mean I shampoo and condition my beard and I feel/see known of the side effects you claim.
User avatar #59 to #58 - italianfrosttroll (12/04/2015) [-]
How often do you do it? Like i said before, the best to do is shampoo every 2 or 3 days as well as condition, but oil daily. As far as why you would treat it differently than pubes, your beard is on display 24/7, so it's important to make sure the hair is healthy or it looks like **** . I dont know about you, but I keep my pubes trimmed and gernerally hidden under pants, so theres no pressing need to have a magnificent bush.
You should try the washi.g/oiling time frame I mentioned. Guarantee your beard will be softer and better looking.
User avatar #23 to #22 - italianfrosttroll (12/03/2015) [-]
If shampooing, which i did, you should do it every 2 or 3 days. And.oil up real well after.

You're not alone. I'm 24 and I've got the facial hair capacity of a 14 year-old mexican. It's more like:

Patchy Scruff November
Slightly thicker Scruff December
Pubeface January
Pedophile Mugshot February

According to my mother, my dad didn't get a full face of hair til he was like 30, so I'm hoping it's just genetics that I can't grow the beard that I want and not some horomonal imbalance issue.
User avatar #30 to #28 - heartlessrobot (12/03/2015) [-]
At least your stubble gets thick, mine stays thin and sparse but gets longer.

It's curious but personally i find it annoying when a man lets his beard grow big but still cuts their hair. It's like "Dude, you stopped with a section, why do you still insist with keeping another section at short lenght?" "Wait, you don't think that long hair isn't the manliest thing a man can do?" Well, personal preferences and choises. People say that you can't cure bad taste, after all
User avatar #7 to #6 - ratytang [OP](12/02/2015) [-]
because b4 the war it was considered manly for a man to have a long beard but long hair was for girls hecne why men grow long beards but cut their hair, it wasn't until soldiers would come back with shaven faces the women found it sexy and men stopped growing beards, men don't grow beards because they are lazy they grow it for fashion, in fact growing a beard and maintaining it is harder then shaving unless you just want to look like a hobo.
#8 to #7 - anon (12/02/2015) [-]
the only reason i have a beard is because i don't like cleaning all the trimmings when i shave

I had a beard i took good care of, problem of mine was that all my hair is very curled, so my beard was curled as **** too. I thought if i grew it long enough i could straighten it, and i could, but not for long and with a lot of effort.
Ultimately, i decided to reduce it to stubble to not look like a pale terrorist anymore.... now i miss it and am tempted to try it again

Part of my "uniform" is to have a completely regonizable face.
The longest I can go without shaving is about 2.5 weeks or so, that's when it's getting barely tolerable at the workplace.
And since I'll be there for at least another half a year, no beard for me.

But truth be told, since I'm a fat **** , I look kinda creepy and neckbeardish whenever I grow one, so it isn't that bad, anyway.
