I dunno, man. Coming from someone who absolutely hates your average run-of-the-mill harem show, I kinda like MM if I'm honest. I think it's because it differs from "default" harem stories in a lot of ways, like:

>There's a decent amount of thought put into how humans would handle the discovery of monster species like this, and it's a pretty believable world overall
>Characters are fleshed out beyond just what's required to make them fetish material
>Pretty consistently funny in rather original ways
>MC isn't a coward, and is kind of an interesting character himself
>There's actually a smidgen of character development

Is it grade-A entertainment? Absolutely not. Yes, it's essentially a harem show built to cater to the monstergirl fetish. But it's a good harem show, dang it. Fine, I'll go to the shame corner now, please don't tell my parents

I've seen some bad harem shows in my time unfortunately, and as you said it isn't quite one of them. It uses a lot of slice of life stuff, and puts it together quite well compared to other garbage.

Not a work of art, but it's not entirely garbage, and it's quite entertaining.

Isn't that just their way of marketing the "harem where MC never actually makes any moves" also I'm not sure why the MC stating that he's aroused when face full of [insert flavour of the month monster-girl here] is considered innovation, lots of anime do that, DxD for instance. It's just more of the same, there'll be another one next season, if it floats your boat but don't try to sell it as anything other than it is, softcore monster porn.

Inb4 "But it has plot, and interesting characters!" No, it doesn't I've read it, I read it precisely because it was softcore monster porn.

Same here. Not from lack of trying mind you, I tried reading it about 3 times and I even watched the first 3 episodes of the anime. But I couldn't get past the 3rd ep or the 5th chapter because some Monster girl would fall in love with the MC because he got a deductible on his car, or whatever stupid reason and I'd get bored to tears

The entire show would be far superior if all of them just happened to have to live in the same house as MC, and only one of them actually fell in love, while the rest just sent jabs at him. They are all portrayed as idiots just because he does something nice for them a single time, or offensive even. The horse chick completely hated his guts for riding her, but then apparently her ovaries were linked to her dislike for him or some **** .

Idk if you seen RosarioxVampire. The same happened to it. The anime was awful and some things changed from the manga ( I really enjoyed the manga but the ending sucked dick ). I think thats what happened to the anime from manga for Monster Musume. I have yet to see the anime tho for monster musume so idk if its as bad as people let on.

Not much. It's just that every other harem I've seen was with humans so I thought this would be sligthly better or atleast slightly different, but it's the exact same with the exact same characters as every other harem. The only difference is that there's a horse, spider, snake and so on. Nothing else. It's basicly the harem for bronies. I don't have anything against harems (I'm a **** fag myself and if there's **** in the main focus, I'll eat that **** up right away wether it's good or bad), just thought it would be original in atleast some way (other than the animal part) and that includes the MC.

Well I've seen way to many in hpes of finding one that is decent and so far only one was good (season 2 was ******* horrible). It's still a horse and it seems she's the fan favourite based on funnyjunk comment and posts (I dropped it halfway through episode 2 after giving it a chance because of the amount of posts of it here so i don't know how much she is in it) so for me it's at the same level as MLP.

Understanding the circular theory of exposure (more properly known as desensitization in psychology) might help you understand Monster Musume.

Basically, when someone is over exposed to something, they eventually stop properly responding to that stimuli. You can see this in people that can only get off the the really strange kinds of porn, for example.

Monster Musume and other shows like it (notably Kill La Kill and Heaven's Lost Property) use this mechanic to first attract people in with the near porn levels of fanservice, and once that drug wears off they are left with the actual story and deconstruction of it's genera that keep people in.

The sexy stuff, the nudity, the lewd actions, all of that is eclipsed by their show's actual main themes- respectively cultural differences, accepting one's body, and degrees of control.
