It's for older cars with tape decks. You slot the tape into the deck, and that wire trails out so you can play your MP3 player through the tape deck.

I have had 2, one by Sony and another by some company with an upside down Walkman symbol. both are bad, it's cassette quality no matter who makes it. But I guess if you own a car that has a cassette player you can't really tell the difference with the speakers in your car.

go on eBay and get a care radio transmitter. Cost 8 bucks and it "blocks" out a radio frequency and it plays the music of whatever is plugged in.

I have and MTX 8000 12 in and an extra battery and 10 farad capacitor. Fully dynamatted my car as well, and I mean every sq inch. Retails 7,000 and i got it all for around 2,000.

Really? Tell me how my 2001 audi s4 with over 100000 miles is insured for $15000.

I bet it has absolutely nothing to do with the thousands of dollars in modifications done to the vehicle. The kbb value for my car is only about $6000

That isn't correct at all, it depends on your insurance company. State farm covers $2000 worth of audio without it being reported(I've had one claim for a break-in and it was covered with no questions). If the value is more than $2000 you can submit them a detailed list and receipts, it'll cost you a couple more dollars on your premium and they'll cover just about any amount. Check your facts before you go discouraging people.

You can just buy the parts online from non-authorized dealers, just usually means the warranty is through them like SonicElectronics, OnlineCarStereo, etc. Clarion pro audio receiver(cheapest I could find w/ 4 volt pre-outs and a usb input for a flash drive), all polk coaxials, dynamat on 4 doors, polk 10" sub in a ported box, Vibe amp, RF cables, and all together it cost me about $650 for the parts to do it for my work car.

BTW if Focal is anything like they used to be, grats. I had a set of their components that set me back about $450 in 98-99ish and they were amazing. Perfectly clear and natural compared to the screeching Dynaudios(their competition back then) even at insane volumes.

Wow, so that is the price of being stupid. I recently completely redid my car's sound system. I replaced my head unit, all 6 speakers, and installed a subwoofer w/amp all for under $400 because I installed it all myself. It feels good saving hundreds of dollars by being able to do SIMPLE wiring and with a little manual labor.

Extended cab truck, so I have an 8-inch sub behind my two seats. I forgot the brand of my door/back wall/dashboard speakers, but I know my sub is an older Sony sub. Run it all through a JVC KD-R740BT. Decent setup for the price.

Man, you don't know luxury until you can play your music without even pulling your phone out your pocket. I love bluetooth.

USB ports with sticks are even better as then you won't need to fiddle with a phone or iPod or something which distracts you from driving even more.
