Before someone says some snarky ******** like "To heat his food", i've been on lots of trips, and I never ever needed a microwave or anything similar.

Uh... well, I hate to be the bearer of snarky ********, but... pretty much to heat his food. If you're going to stay in one place for a while, you'll probably end up buying some groceries. Heck, even heating leftovers. Goodness knows I've done it plenty of times.

If it was a motel, maybe, but I can't imagine someone going to a hotel, a place you go to relax, and buying groceries. Maybe i'm just used to Vegas hotels since I go there a lot, but then again, the hotel this person is staying in lacks a microwave, so who knows.

Who says he's there just to relax? He could be on a business trip. And even when I go on vacation I don't eat out all the time, so I'd probably wind up making myself something to eat eventually.

I have to stay in hotels all the time on business trips, and when I do the costs of food and whatnot are covered by the business i'm doing work for.

What does who's paying for the food have to do with whether you get groceries? You could just as well buy groceries with whatever money the company gives you as you could go out to eat with it. My brother usually did a mix of the two when he had to travel for work.

It really does depend on the hotel. I traveled with an orchestra in my twenties, and we stayed at hotels because we'd be playing the same concert halls in the area for a week or two. Motels weren't really comfortable enough, sometimes they didn't have enough rooms to fit 80-odd people, and there was a row of other reasons why motels just didn't suit us. It was kind of like renting an apartment, in a way.

I don't really think that this person's hotel lacks a microwave... it could, but that's not usual. I think he just didn't find it and thought that the safe was it. An easy mistake to make, actually, I at first didn't get the joke.
