Not to be a buzzkill, but if we're including Classic Who logic, Ginger hair was the highest rank achievable by a Time Lord, where they could see all of time at any time. Something very unlikely to happen to our clandestine hero.

Isn't the doctor out of regenerations? They only get 12 I think. (He's on his 13th incarnation, and he's had at least 14 regenerations.)

He's not done. He's somehow fixed it so that he can regenerate infinitely. I don't remember where I heard this, but it was the most plausible thing I've read about Doctor Who in awhile. I'll post the sauce if I find it.

I heard the same thing, pretty sure Moffat or Davies said that the Doctor doesn't have to follow the old rules anymore. (Time Lord Victorious, in a way)

Plus, out of universe, that series is a 50 year old cash cow and essential part of British culture and sci-fi legend. It's not going anywhere, anytime soon.

There's no official statement about The Doctor's regeneration limit. A Timelord is supposed to have only twelve, having then thirteen bodies. The Doctor interpreted by Peter Capaldi, after the Christmas special will be next on his 12th, but there's inconsistence about the real number. If we count the incomplete regenerations, haven't seen the classic series but ha's had at least three on the modern (Doctor-Donna, River Song's hand and another one I can't yet remember) and consider other factors like River Song giving him her last nine to revive him we get a number between -2 and 7 regenerations left. Also, we have to consider that The Master received a new set of 13 for his participation on the Time War, so The Doctor might as well have those extra too. It's been said that a Timelord can actually regenerate 502 times, so the 13 limit can be more like a law than an actual biological limitation. And since there are no other Timelords left, who canstop The Doctor from regenerating more times?

Only Steve Moffat.
