The best reasoning I can see is; Bilbo (Frodo's caretaker) let Thranduil's (Legolas' father) Dwarven slaves free, which would of course cause some bad blood. Not to mention elves are notorious for thinking they are better than everyone else anyways, and hobbits are generally on the bottom of the social ladder.

They fought together afterwards, tho, in the Battle of 5 Armies and Thranduil forgave Bilbo, going as far as honoring him personally - the reason is simply that the movies and the books did not have enough space to bring up personal bonds between every character. Not to mention that the fellowship didn´t hold that long until Frodo and Samweiß left.

They are friendlier in the book, but still noticeably less so than everyone else.

I think they did talk in the book more
when they tried to pass through a certain mountain pass where Saruman summoned a snow storm

Just realized that Gordon Freeman, Stalin and Justin Bieber have never been seen together in the same room ever.

The only other time they could have had a short conversation was at the end when Frodo was in bed, waking up to see his friends. He says all their names and they run to him and all that. But when he sees Legolas he just looks at him like

Funnily enough, I just got done watching Desolation of Smaug. I really liked it. Also, I did have a huge problem with the water barrel scene, what's the big deal with people hating it?

There was no epic battle on the ride down. They just put it in there just to make up for the lack of action. A lot of **** didn't happen. Legolas wasn't in The Hobbit, but he may have been mentioner in the appendix's... I'm not sure. I'll give it a look through again.

YEAH. THAT SURE IS A PROBLEM IN THAT MOVIE THAT YOU WATCHED. WHAT A SHAME THERE ISN'T A BOOK OR SOMETHING WHERE THAT ISN'T THE CASE.

HOW ABOUT THOSE EAGLES, HUH? WHAT A STUPID PLAN.
User avatar #20 - drakonpunch (08/30/2014) [-]
They don't even have conversations in the book? I think that's fine for the movies because it wouldn't work trying to develop relationships between every character.

Possibly reflected in the end of ROTK when the Fellowship comes together again, Frodo exclaims Aragorn & Gimli's names when seeing them again but not with Legolas

It was awkward because if Legolas talked to Frodo, Sam would ******* kill him.

(please get reference)
