Why would you hang art that pricey in a restaurant? Have they never considered this scenario?
User avatar #81 to #61 - crimhowler (11/23/2013) [-]
If I were to do that, I'd frame it under glass. But yeah, the guy is still an idiot
User avatar #207 to #81 - moustachemustache (11/24/2013) [-]
I always think about this at school. My pieces could be ruined just hanging in a regular hallway.
User avatar #209 to #207 - crimhowler (11/24/2013) [-]
in a school setting, it's almost guaranteed that they'd be damaged. A lot of students don't appreciate the work put into a piece of art, and will often deface it themselves with some "Tag" graffiti, or just rip or cut the canvas. Unless the art is behind glass, or out of people's reach, it's almost unavoidable
User avatar #211 to #209 - moustachemustache (11/24/2013) [-]
I don't think it's that bad at my school. We have a special wing for the art classes so it's typically only art students near the art but the thought of my pieces getting damaged still crosses my mind.
User avatar #212 to #211 - crimhowler (11/24/2013) [-]
Oh. Well lucky you. Unfortunately, the high school I went to was over crowded with uncultured pricks, who always found some way of belittling another artist (Visual, Musical, and authorial artists alike)
User avatar #213 to #212 - moustachemustache (11/24/2013) [-]
Well, we have those pricks, but usually they takes a woodworking or metals class which is in a different wing of the school. But it's still annoying that those kind of kids exist.
User avatar #214 to #213 - crimhowler (11/24/2013) [-]
Yeah we had those too, but although they were in a separate wing, they still hung out together in the halls everywhere, and had no care for others work.
#142 - stripey (11/23/2013) [-]
Oh come on you guys, this was just one harmless prank. He didn't destroy a man's career or cause any big trouble.

User avatar #153 to #75 - skinjacker (11/23/2013) [-]
Well this is probably fake, and the whole point of it was to get a chuckle out of it for the people who read this. I found this hilarious, albeit a bit cruel if it was actually real.

User avatar #106 to #90 - RisenLichen ONLINE (11/23/2013) [-]
I get that, but $350 for a painting of a bunch of colors meshed together? I understand if its an actual painting of something, but what's the point of just meshing colors together and framing it up?
User avatar #123 to #106 - wersand (11/23/2013) [-]
If you think it costs too much don't buy it. He probably has some sort of degree and pieces are sometimes part of a series. If you want background on a piece of art you have to sometimes look deeper than "a bunch of colors meshed together."

Anyway, my main point was not whether the are was good or not, but on whether the texter being an asshole was warranted or not.

This made me experience rage. Extreme rage. How dare ANYONE mock someone's time and effort. Perhaps it's the fact that I enjoy drawing and art, but this is outrageous. I know that this is unpopular opinion due to the rest of the douche bags in the comments. How dare he call that painting worthless.
#53 to #9 - John Cena (11/23/2013) [-]
It looks nice but flowers and trees in a park look nicer and if I don't have to pay for them why do I pay for a picture that does nothing more than look sorta nice. It has no use but to as fire wood sorry kiddo but that's the truth

When did he ever call that painting worthless?
#171 to #9 - John Cena (11/23/2013) [-]
Anyone would be mad to have any of their own property be destroyed - it's not just an artist thing. However, the destruction obviously didn't happen. I didn't find it that funny, but only because I don't like this type of prank. I always end up feeling bad for the person.

Anyway, I find your view a bit strange since you call yourself an artist. Most artists I know (and myself), believe that everyone is going to have a different opinion. Some people are going to hate it (maybe even call it worthless), others are going to love it, and still others are going to have varying opinions. Sure, it sucks when people call your work worthless, but that's their opinion. Artists, writers, actors - we all get criticism. That's just part of our life. You must live a very rage-filled life if you get angry every time art is criticized.
User avatar #172 to #171 - inuares (11/23/2013) [-]
"I enjoy drawing and art" is not the same as calling myself an artist.

how do you recognize a drawfag on the internet? don't worry, they'll tell you
#18 to #9 - John Cena (11/23/2013) [-]
he didnt say its worthless he was willing to pay 50$ (assumeing this is real which its not) of which (from an artists point of view i draw and paint aswell) that is definately not worth 350$ i could recreate that
#45 to #18 - John Cena (11/23/2013) [-]
And, for the record, that's not to say that I like this particular painting or even agree with it's value.

BUT saying that something is worthless **** just because you don't like it OR because it's easy to recreate is just asinine.
#42 to #18 - John Cena (11/23/2013) [-]
I can recreate a Mondrian, in about five minutes, no problem. Doesn't make it worth $50.

Similarly, some of the best forgeries of Dutch masters are worth easily a million dollars, even as known forgeries.

Stop being a internet tool and realize that your opinion of art isn't new or special, nor remotely accurate.

Alright, so it's a tree by a lake. There is no depth, no inspiration, no originality whatsoever to this painting. I see paintings like this every other day (my grandmother has 7 in her living room that look just like this in various sizes) . That's not to say it's not a nice looking painting, but it's a very amateur painting and is by no means worth 350 dollars.
User avatar #86 to #17 - toosexyforyou (11/23/2013) [-]
It's a tree by a lake? It just looked like the artists splashed different shades of green on a piece of paper in an artistic manner.
User avatar #47 to #9 - oily (11/23/2013) [-]
I could make this painting in less than 15 minutes, if I just had a nice pornographic movie and a black piece of paper.
User avatar #154 to #50 - inuares (11/23/2013) [-]
Joke? Really? Because I don't see a set-up or punchline. I don't see any creativity. It was someone being a dick to another person.
User avatar #33 to #9 - nimba (11/23/2013) [-]

#208 to #189 - fuckyosixtyminutes (11/24/2013) [-]
Innate and intrinsic are synonyms, retard.

That means they're different words that mean about the same thing by the way.
#24 to #9 - swiggityswoner (11/23/2013) [-]
Same here. A part of me cringed hard when he started saying how he was destroying the painting, even though this is obviously fake.

Quickest way to get yourself in deep trouble with an artist is to ruin their work. I'm a pretty level-headed person, and I'll avoid conflict like the plague, but I don't even need someone to do it to know that'd be what'd set me off. Nearly punched a guy who tried tried to draw horns (of all things) onto a character I'd just spent two hours on once, without my permission.
User avatar #49 to #24 - derpwolf (11/23/2013) [-]
Do you have that picture still?
