man, EA shafted Double Fine with the Brutal Legend sequel, then they get the ******* shaft again by Microsoft Studios taking the rights to Iron Brigade. It's like **** man, cut the studio some slack, they make great games, let them do what they do.

*first paragraph from Wikipedia*
Cancelled sequel[edit]
Double Fine believed they were given the go-ahead to develop a sequel to Brütal Legend after the game's release, and had invested a great deal of development time towards this, but were later told by EA that it was cancelled.[52] Schafer stated that the sequel would likely incorporate much of what they had to drop prior to the game's release. This game world would have been three times larger than what Brütal Legend contained.[17] The sequel would have likely included a fourth faction that was cut from the original game which would have been the last major group the player would have to fight through, including a major boss character, before the final battles with Doviculus.[31] Schafer further noted that at the end of the original game, Doviculus' head falls into the Sea of Black Tears, and implied that the same effect that the Sea had on Ophelia could happen to Doviculus.[31] Schafer also had ideas for a plot using a character voiced by Ronnie James Dio, but will not likely be used due to Dio's death.[17]

Yeah, they ported it over to PC some time ago, which is kind of weird, since the devs refused to do it for a couple of years, claiming that it wouldn't be as fun on PC. Mostly because if you have an actual mouse instead of a controller, it'll be a hell of a lot easier. I can't tell if you'll like it or not, but it's a pretty solid game in general. Moreso if you're a metal fan.

It's not way overrated, because it has written musical history.

Let's see how many of today's "big artists" will still be listened to on a frequent basis some 30 years from now. Like ******* Aerosmith is. Or Black Sabbath. Or any rock/metal legend.

Completely ignoring me liking them or not, there are quite some bands that have a chance to survive for decades to come. Biffy Clyro, Muse, Linkin Park, Eminem, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers or even the Foo Fighters are bands that I can easily see surviving for decades to come and becoming musical legends. Not to mention a ******** of smaller, unknow bands with incredibly loyal fanbases that will survive this way.

People idolize the old days because they don't remember the crap that got washed away with time, but they remember the good stuff. But since we're surrounded by both crap and good stuff nowadays, they notice there's crap in this age, but they don't see the crap from the old days. So they think the old days were better because they don't know there was crap back then.

Music hasn't changed THAT much in the last few decades. New genres have entered the scene, but there's still plenty of good material from nowadays and plenty of bad material from back then, and vice versa.

music is a great thing, and musical tastes can be very particular, yet considering most music to be overrated is a pretty close minded thing to say (or at least it comes off that way)

its not that most music is overrated by everyone else, its more that it is underrated by yourself

musical taste always has been and always will be subjective, "good" music and "bad" music are often quite hard to define, in fact its something that's been on my mind the past couple of weeks.
what makes a song "good"; is it the composition, the pace, the style, the technicality?
Or is it your perspective of these factors
why do people limit themselves to one genre of music and reject the possibilities of other genres? this isnt all directed at you btw im just posting my thoughts on the world
somebody help me keep this debate open, im posting pretty late here but iwanna hear what people have to say
also; music thread needs music (posting my current favs): contributions much appreciated

Clutch - The Face (with lyrics) love the album theme/vocals/basslines from Clutch

Awake - The Devin Townsend Project i listen to a bit of devin, not all, but i particularly love his vocals/riffs/lyrics in this song, plus the pantera reference was kinda funny and pretty typical of devin

Fleshgod Apocalypse - Epilogue [HV] this is an oddity, i enjoy the high vocals/symphony/pace. but, so many layers of music can take some enjoyment from each side of the songs, heavy and classical. idk if they overdid this one or not they have a varying style

posting more music in 2nd post cus space limit/character limit

Fleshgod Apocalypse - In Honour Of Reason (with lyrics) probably my favorite fleshgod song, due to the blasting/vocal pace/drum pace/intro/guitar tune. the symphony on this one is done electronically and not "coated" over their music

[Glitch Hop / 110BPM] - Haywyre - Back and Forth [Monstercat Release] to tone it back a bit, enjoy it cus relaxed song/rythm

12 An Open Letter to NYC - Beastie Boys (To the 5 Boroughs) bit of a beastie fan, enjoy it cus lyrics/beat/electronic sounds are enjoyable

I'm with you on that (for the most part). Personally I can't stand songs that are basically 8 minutes of some guy ******* around on a guitar, which tends to be a lot of music from those times. I guess that means I'd be more into the punk of that time, but most of it is a bit too crude (for lack of a better word).

If you're a person who enjoys music made with instruments and the full extent of human creativity, it's completely valid to say that today's music is mostly ****.

But what's great about today is that we have the ability to wade through all of the crap to find the gems: In the past you had to take your chances on random albums, spend time at the mercy of the radio, etc. Nowawadays your computer can connect you to virtually every single band out there. And then you can usually listen to it online for free or buy only the songs you like (or pirate, argh!). I guarantee you that there's music out there that's perfect for you. The trick is figuring out how to find it.

The Beatles lived off the 12 bar I-IV-V pattern. IF they were feeling adventurous they may have thrown in a V7 or maybe even a vi in the bridge but honestly it's the same god damn progression in a different key almost every god damn time. And Metallica lives in the Locrean. Ohhh you played a I-VI-V or a I-iv-III-V congratulations here's a sticker

I don't know about PC, but on xbox live there is. They have four dlcs, all with 4 new maps, single player items, and costumes. The blade of ormagodden makes brutal the easiest difficulty, 3 shots all the early baddies, and pretty much one shots everything on easy/normal. You get it for free as soon as you find a forge. The multi player maps make it way worth purchasing. Nothing like running the wall of doom, or the razor girl army on them.

well i had picked it up on xbox a year after it's release, the multilpayer wasn't dead, it was like a hundred players. and i was proud to hold the top ten spot. Then out of nowhere it died and erryones rank got reset. But yeah multiplayer is really fun. Here are two top strategies i used. Wall of doom with drowning tears, x4 reapers, x4 baby carriages, x4 brides(the slow is stupid strong), a dirge unit, treeback, and i think that maxes out the cap. Oh and i guess grave diggers. While for Ironheade, just make as many razor girls as you can, some hogs, and your final unit. Proceed to win game. Lots of passive play though as its hwo ever attacks first and if they mess it it's usually game.

Best part about that game was Ozzy's character and some of the songs they got the licensing for. But seriously, the RTS elements were ****, the open world hack n' slash elements were ****, customization was limited as well as ****, the factions basically amounted to a glorified game of "rock paper scissors" on top of being **** (though I will admit the special abilities like Eddie summoning a zeppelin to crash on the field were pretty ******* badass). But I could forgive all of that, ALL OF IT, if it still felt like a Tim Schafer game but it just...didn't. It honestly feels like Tim Schafer had this great idea for a music based open world fantasy game and decided to have Jack Black voice the lead. But Jack basically took over and made it his own thing.

The RTS elements weren't ****, but you had to actually use your brain in order to win.

I know, impossible chore for most people.

No, they were pretty ****. They either amounted to "throw dozens of roadies straight to the enemy stage and take out any survivors personally." or "throw all your units at the single uber unit spawned." I refer to the murder of crows when you fight Ophelia at the sea of black tears, damn thing was so OP that the only effective strategy was to zerg rush and pray you had the DPS to kill him fast enough. There was just no challenge to it. At the very most you could have 4 resource generators, but by that time you're within spunking distance of the crippled, broke, and defenseless enemy stage so you never get to enjoy it. There was no way to effectively cripple and pick apart your opponent's defense, or way to set up an effective defense beyond throwing walls of roadies out. I could go on but I gotta get to work so to surmise; the RTS is ****, it COULD have probably been something cool and unique, but it wasn't.

That's what you understood out of it;

However, the secret lies in issuing out as many orders/commands as possible. Splitting up troops, so that you can perform different actions across the map.

Thankfully, my Starcraft upbringing helped loads with that. Just like in Starcraft, your Actions Per Minute are pretty important, as fast as you can move the avatar from place to place and make intelligent use of your resources, it's easy to win.

Of course, it's intense as ****, but that's what expected of you if you want to beat the AI on Brutal

Can't tell if trolling or serious but I'll indulge you. Issuing as many commands as possible is damn near impossible when the commands you can issue are limited to "move **** here" and "attack **** there" and only if Eddie is directly interacting with the group can "special attack **** there" be issued. There's no unit formations, no ROE, no combat stances, damn near nothing to be done to give a unit any more tactical value. Now, it probably could have been good if they made it a dedicated RTS and put more effort in to things like unit upgrades, and resource generation. Rather than push a majority of the upgrades to Eddie, hell, it would probably have been incredible. But they made it a hybrid hack n slash/RTS and you just can't do that to either one without ruining the other.

You're forgetting the fact that you can give individual squads individual orders. THAT is the key to victory.

I agree that the gameplay wasn't much to celebrate, but the in-game world, the artstyle, the music, the story, and all the actors, that's what made the game worth playing.
