Who will maintain these? The ******* Sahara Solar Panel Nomads?

your a moron OP, go learn something
sand dunes constantly move.. the solar panels would be buried in a month
sucks that the planet is covered in dense people like you

What is logistics

"Solar panels use sun"
"The desert is sunny"
"Omg why don't we put them there lol I'm smarter than all engineers"

1. the solar panels get damaged by sand (sand storms and **** ) and maintainance is actually quite difficult.
2. you have to move the the electricity/energy to wherever you want it and does giant cables aren´t cheap
3. there is actually a parabol solarstation somewhere in the sahara.
User avatar #11 to #10 - blasthardcheese ONLINE (05/04/2014) [-]
Plus the Sahara is so vast that any getting energy from the middle to anywhere else would be almost impossible because of the energy losses due to the resistance of the cables.

Because it is extremely inefficient to have power travel from Sahara to England.

I'll just leave this here.

I'm thumbing this up so more people can tell you why you're wrong

actually the majority of green energy is specialized in from country to country.
e.g Denmark specializes in Windmills because we have oceans and general low ground with windy areas.

1) Sandstorms and dunes moving would bury all the solar panels in less than a month.
2) Sahara is huge. Transporting all the power across the huge ass desert would be highly ineffective.

Humans are not the smartest species indeed, and you're the perfect example of it.

Let's not forget about the fact that the power needs to be transmitted somewhere from the solar panels....

Well, common solar panels don't work too well with to big ammounts of solar ray and heat. Long story short: they work better in europe, than in Africa.

**** that just put trading posts everywhere.

lel I think I came up with a simple solution. while browsing funnyjunk I discovered a far easier power source and a solution to land and energy needs.
User avatar #49 - grpeephole (05/05/2014) [-]
aaaaaaand time to get science.

Believe it or not Solar panels work better in cold enviroments

I suggest anartica

Yeah so you are retarded. There is no infrastructure of any kind to build solar panels in the Sahara, it would cost an absolute fortune to set up. Plus the sand would destroy the panels fairly quickly everytime a small wind kicks up. Nevermind the political side of giving Europe's power supply over to a the countries that caused the 70's oil crisis.
User avatar #17 - icecubeslayer (05/04/2014) [-]
Well if you put solar panels out in the desert they'll get damaged by sandstorms. Also sand likes to shift, which could ruin the solar panels' alignment or even bury them.
User avatar #16 - applezachs ONLINE (05/04/2014) [-]
nothing better than thousands of dollers built in the shifting sands
