Because the sun sends more than just light to Earth.

Maybe that's why there's no vampires then.

Well if I had to guess, is probably the same concept as the fact you can't get a sun burn at night. Vampires are susceptible to UV light, which the sun has massive amounts of. But at night, the reflected light is much less intense (Hence why you can stare at the moon) and in turn has much less UV. It is also naturally filtered through our atmosphere. Older vampires in mythology have been shown to be able to withstand smaller doses of UV. So it is possible that when the moon is in a crescent phase, (meaning the moon is not very visable or bright) they are unaffected, and when the moon is full and very bright, only the elders can go hunting.
God damn I need to write a book now.

Easy. Reflections don't exist for vampires. That's why they don't show up in mirrors. Since the light is reflected, it's nonexistent to them.

That sounded more and more like ******** as I typed it out...

Except, to see anything, except the things that emits light, light needs to be reflected of the object to reach your eye.

That means Vampires are blind
Many bats are almost blind
Vampires can often turn into bats

well wouldn't that also mean werewolves would transform into megawolves during the day?

If Medusa's reflection doesn't turn you to stone, the sun's rays reflecting off the moon don't kill vampires.

Well the sun needs to rest from vanquishing demons from this world.

So they'd burn under the moon and the sun, maybe they'd burn the most when they were both out
they'd be flaming during twilight
User avatar #62 to #56 - roguehazzard (11/18/2013) [-]
They already were flaming during Twilight.

If they can't see their own reflection, then wouldn't reflected sunlight not affect them either?

i always thought the moon was poetic irony for vampires
Vampires aren't really alive, they are a "reflection" of life. A fake version etc etc.

I've always assumed that UV light is what hurts vampires, which is why blacklights and sunlights hurt them, but normal lights and firelight didn't. That would explain why the moon doesn't hurt them, since the amount of UV light reflected off of the moon onto the Earth is negligible to nonexistent, so they would be fine.

Maybe it's because the light isn't as concentrated...
I don't really know, this puts a hole through most vampire movies
User avatar #57 - infinitereaper (11/18/2013) [-]
Moon light is very tame compared to sunlight fggt

I've aways liked to think that vampires die with sunlight because it's something symbolical. It destroys them because sunlight represents God, or God's sight or God's judgement or something along those lines, and since they are monsters who gave up their humanity, God destroys them.

Or sumthing liek dat.
User avatar #5 - ultimateiceman ONLINE (11/18/2013) [-]
it needs to be direct sunlight
