Make the boards not **** .
If someone posts in a channel, say Animemanga as an example, put a link to the Anime & Manga board beside the channel link in the content.
Let users make threads in the boards, like that FJ 4chan clone that we had for a while.
Can we make new boards? Let us make new boards if we have high levels. Over 300?
That "Keep FJ Alive/Donate" thing makes it sound like the site is going to die any day now, while that may or may not be the case it will probably turn some new users off. Change it to just "Donate"
FJ App would probably help.
Ability to post .swf files. That would definitely help in **** .
Option to change the Top Uploads sidebar from 24 hours to 7 or 30 days, for users that don't browse daily but still want to see the best **** .
Ban Joshlol
If you do bring back the parties upload them as content later so people who missed them can still listen to them.
Fix the ******* gifs.
Make votes anonymous, that should slow down the Hive Mind effect and the "I'll thumb down everything you post as revenge for thumbing me down" things that happen sometimes. Still have the thumb count there obviously, just make it impossible for non mods to see who voted on it.
Put a link the steam group in the sidebar.
Put a link to the store in the sidebar.
Let users upload their own designs for the stuff in the store. (all proceeds for FJ kind of thing)
Can we get someone to fix the ******* chrome notification extension already?
Option to not see users below a certain level, for example below 0. **** *********** .
Can we have an options page instead of the popup?
Presets for the user profile themes.
Make it so that low rated comments, are always low on the page when viewing in Top rated order even if there is a comment with a high amount of thumbs replying to it. Star Wars and Fallout 4 got spoiled for me because of that **** .
Let anons browse **** , show them an "Are you willing" blah blah thing unless it would **** up the ads again.

all of that would take 1000s of hours
i do this for free and alone

> but admin let so and so random developer have access to your code, they said they were an expert

giving someone your code is a great way to get your site hacked and destroyed instantly

sony, target, steam, etc. all recently hacked or exposed user data
User avatar #517 to #257 - atsshole (12/28/2015) [-]
You could always just ban joshlol i think that would bring back at least a couple thousands users.
User avatar #478 to #257 - zenthos (12/28/2015) [-]
Admin,
is there really info on this site that could hurt anyone?
I think the answer is no.
Worse case they get your FJ cache and everyones email and password for this site.
So people get more spam mail to go into their junk folder. And those dump people who use the same password for everything "might" get boned.

So if saving FJ means finding other programmers or going open source is that risk then its really not any worse then for someone to simply use the internet.

Is your fear that you will be Doxxed?
Why are you such a shadow man?
User avatar #485 to #478 - admin [OP](12/28/2015) [-]
if i'm so ****** and dumb just go make your own fj

why do you need me?

it's that simple bro

#620 to #485 - zenthos (12/29/2015) [-]
I never said you where a ****** person!?

I said a "shadow man". Like has in a shadow, hidden, mysterious.

I also never said you where dumb.

I like FJ a lot. And I admire you even though I don't know anything about you.
I just got my associates majoring in comp sci (R.I.P. my life).

Like, I don't know much about web development (thanks education) but it always been my understanding that large websites take many people to run and work on.

I think its incredibly impressive that you alone made this website and from what I understand on your own. But I am not saying sell out I was just saying that its ok to seek partners. You are clearly smart for not trusting people. People are **** . But some, only a few are ok. I am saying you should find a few homies that would help you.

I was also asking why you choose to be such a shadow man (mysterious about your identity).

Can't you just get one of the existing futaba board scripts, slap some FJ colors on it and call it a board?

do a static code analysis to find leaks, fix em first, then start getting some people in and let them only work via git only allowing them to make pull requests

See, I've only been here a few days and reading this post and this comment (both of them) makes me wonder.

Why even bother then? yeah it would take a while but go and make a list, prioritize things in a manner of which is the most important in your mind, dont look at it in the entirety. look for the long term investment of it.

and while you're just one guy doing this alone, there are probably some ways to hire people and make a legal thing they have to sign stating that at no point during "employment" are they allowed to use source code for their own desires and if they do they can be fined up to X amount. I'm almost certain there are laws that revolve around that so you can be protected.

If you're worried about your site then dont make a post saying "how to revive it?" and then say something like this when someone makes very good ideas, You dont HAVE to work on it alone, you choose to, just like how I chose to try to make a game in rpg maker mv alone, that went good for all of 3 weeks then i stopped because it became too much for one person to work on.

While this is likely my first comment i do think that you should look at all the options, if you truly do want to keep the site going then go out and get help or like i said, take it one thing at a time.

Then again, im not the one who owns the site so i probably shouldn't be going and giving you "advice" on this. Just my thoughts, the be all end all decision is ultimately up to you.
User avatar #462 to #352 - admin [OP](12/28/2015) [-]
yeah you're right man

just give me the money to hire developers on a site that makes no money and i'll get started
User avatar #576 to #462 - dmkstarstar (12/29/2015) [-]
Just pay them a dollar for every day they work.
If you hire 5 people and each of them works for 20 days total a month.
You'll only have to pay out 100 out of your paycheck a month.
Funnyjunk isn't a business anyway so who cares how much you pay them.
I'd be absolutely glad to get 20 extra dollars each month. Most or part of this was sarcasm
User avatar #328 to #257 - FunnyjunkAdvisor (12/28/2015) [-]
What people fail to understand is that, Source Code is the end all to information. If someone has access to source code then they can change anything.

If Admin truly could afford professional developers, These professionals sign a NDA(Non-Disclosure Agreement). However, We are talking thousands of dollars. Money which admin doesn't have.

I wonder how many people remember "TheDesigner"? Ive followed Funnyjunk since I was a 6th grader and now Im turning 21. I know you can do it admin. We are proud of you and you do an amazing job! I couldnt imagine going without funnyjunk!

>I want fj to expand why am i losing people wahh
>omg these changes youre telling me are too tough and im just one guy

You need a legitemate staff, you can reply like you do with everyone else saying "yeah but you dont understand kiddie i know more than you muh source code you cant code as good as me" it all reminds me when we regarded admin for what he actually was, a fickle autistic **** .

**anonymous used "*roll picture*"**
**anonymous rolled image**

ive been on plenty of websites and forums, specifically centered around private server gaming communities/forums. i can't count how many times staff members would try to destroy the entire server and website because they had a dispute with another staff member or the admin. people act very impulsively. i remember after that incident, staff members would go setup rival servers and there would be hacking wars. the people that just wanted to play the game couldn't because the higher ups were trying to measure whos dick was bigger and had to take it out on the playerbase. it's a terrible idea to invite a team of people you don't know to handle your business, especially if they aren't getting paid for it.

for instance, if i were to put it in terms of the FJ community. imagine admin hires some people like joshlol, sewallman, or soule to moderate or help with the site. these people get into disputes with each other, or with admin, and then they delete the whole website out of spite because they're upset. it happens more often than you think. admin should never give control over to random ppl and i have a feeling FJ has only existed this long because he hasn't done that.

source: gunz online private servers (was around early 2000s, ive since that left that scene for a long time now). was a total **** show.

oh that's a great idea man, i'm so sorry i'm autistic

haha whyd you take your post down? I love knowing youre actually bothered by this. I'd get defensive if the only thing i worked on in my entire life and had to be proud for was failing massively as well lmao.
User avatar #574 to #452 - jaytothadee (12/29/2015) [-]
Im probably going to sound retarded but maybe if you let some trusted people help it would work better. Like people you know and trust. Let them work on certain things. Like still have moderators but also have a development team that would get paid. It doesnt have to be much just so they know that there is a trust. Turn it more into a buisness than a website.
User avatar #617 to #574 - admin [OP](12/29/2015) [-]

Thing is dude, there are plenty of them, myself included. It's just you are at a bit of a pickle because obviously doing all the coding/dev work yourself is going to be a hassle.

If I were you, I'd look at doing another mod recruitment drive, for only people who know who to code css/html/javascript/php etc. Look to users with 5+ years coming to this site and you'll have trustworthy people I'm certain. What else can you do? I'm sure there are people who'd help on a part time basis without pay, just for the community. I'd offer my help but currently I'm studying a lot for university, however if you ever need a programmer just on a short term basis, let me know.
User avatar #464 to #463 - admin [OP](12/28/2015) [-]
i've never seen one skilled programmer on this site:

me: show me your github

not one person could produce any code to show

User avatar #469 to #464 - DisgruntledTomato (12/28/2015) [-]
Just because you haven't seen it first hand doesn't mean they don't exist. This site is full of low functioning turbo autismos, the chance that there are a few skilled programmers is pretty likely, just make a stickied post about recruiting devs, ask for evidence etc. If it's a no show, then you tried.
