Make the boards not **** .
If someone posts in a channel, say Animemanga as an example, put a link to the Anime & Manga board beside the channel link in the content.
Let users make threads in the boards, like that FJ 4chan clone that we had for a while.
Can we make new boards? Let us make new boards if we have high levels. Over 300?
That "Keep FJ Alive/Donate" thing makes it sound like the site is going to die any day now, while that may or may not be the case it will probably turn some new users off. Change it to just "Donate"
FJ App would probably help.
Ability to post .swf files. That would definitely help in **** .
Option to change the Top Uploads sidebar from 24 hours to 7 or 30 days, for users that don't browse daily but still want to see the best **** .
Ban Joshlol
If you do bring back the parties upload them as content later so people who missed them can still listen to them.
Fix the ******* gifs.
Make votes anonymous, that should slow down the Hive Mind effect and the "I'll thumb down everything you post as revenge for thumbing me down" things that happen sometimes. Still have the thumb count there obviously, just make it impossible for non mods to see who voted on it.
Put a link the steam group in the sidebar.
Put a link to the store in the sidebar.
Let users upload their own designs for the stuff in the store. (all proceeds for FJ kind of thing)
Can we get someone to fix the ******* chrome notification extension already?
Option to not see users below a certain level, for example below 0. *************** .
Can we have an options page instead of the popup?
Presets for the user profile themes.
Make it so that low rated comments, are always low on the page when viewing in Top rated order even if there is a comment with a high amount of thumbs replying to it. Star Wars and Fallout 4 got spoiled for me because of that **** .
Let anons browse **** , show them an "Are you willing" blah blah thing unless it would **** up the ads again.
>I want fj to expand why am i losing people wahh
>omg these changes youre telling me are too tough and im just one guy
You need a legitemate staff, you can reply like you do with everyone else saying "yeah but you dont understand kiddie i know more than you muh source code you cant code as good as me" it all reminds me when we regarded admin for what he actually was, a fickle autistic **** .
haha whyd you take your post down? I love knowing youre actually bothered by this. I'd get defensive if the only thing i worked on in my entire life and had to be proud for was failing massively as well lmao.
Im probably going to sound retarded but maybe if you let some trusted people help it would work better. Like people you know and trust. Let them work on certain things. Like still have moderators but also have a development team that would get paid. It doesnt have to be much just so they know that there is a trust. Turn it more into a buisness than a website.

ive been on plenty of websites and forums, specifically centered around private server gaming communities/forums. i can't count how many times staff members would try to destroy the entire server and website because they had a dispute with another staff member or the admin. people act very impulsively. i remember after that incident, staff members would go setup rival servers and there would be hacking wars. the people that just wanted to play the game couldn't because the higher ups were trying to measure whos dick was bigger and had to take it out on the playerbase. it's a terrible idea to invite a team of people you don't know to handle your business, especially if they aren't getting paid for it.
for instance, if i were to put it in terms of the FJ community. imagine admin hires some people like joshlol, sewallman, or soule to moderate or help with the site. these people get into disputes with each other, or with admin, and then they delete the whole website out of spite because they're upset. it happens more often than you think. admin should never give control over to random ppl and i have a feeling FJ has only existed this long because he hasn't done that.
source: gunz online private servers (was around early 2000s, ive since that left that scene for a long time now). was a total **** show.
but honestly, you need to try and get legitimate staff, keep the source code away and only to you, which will allow you to feel safe, but have workers help u with the coding
Thing is dude, there are plenty of them, myself included. It's just you are at a bit of a pickle because obviously doing all the coding/dev work yourself is going to be a hassle.
If I were you, I'd look at doing another mod recruitment drive, for only people who know who to code css/html/javascript/php etc. Look to users with 5+ years coming to this site and you'll have trustworthy people I'm certain. What else can you do? I'm sure there are people who'd help on a part time basis without pay, just for the community. I'd offer my help but currently I'm studying a lot for university, however if you ever need a programmer just on a short term basis, let me know.
Just because you haven't seen it first hand doesn't mean they don't exist. This site is full of low functioning turbo autismos, the chance that there are a few skilled programmers is pretty likely, just make a stickied post about recruiting devs, ask for evidence etc. If it's a no show, then you tried.
Tfw only started doing open source things this month out of boredom
Tfw writing stuff on your phone isn't actually that terrible
Tfw this jako dude has no idea what he wants anymore
Tfw you install notepad++ on your gfs laptop which is missing the two most essential keys to make a ****** api for a vbulletin based piracy forum imgur.com/Yv8FVOs
Tfw you've infected her and she's learning HTML now
Tfw code academy isn't that bad
What people fail to understand is that, Source Code is the end all to information. If someone has access to source code then they can change anything.
If Admin truly could afford professional developers, These professionals sign a NDA(Non-Disclosure Agreement). However, We are talking thousands of dollars. Money which admin doesn't have.
I wonder how many people remember "TheDesigner"? Ive followed Funnyjunk since I was a 6th grader and now Im turning 21. I know you can do it admin. We are proud of you and you do an amazing job! I couldnt imagine going without funnyjunk!
do a static code analysis to find leaks, fix em first, then start getting some people in and let them only work via git only allowing them to make pull requests
See, I've only been here a few days and reading this post and this comment (both of them) makes me wonder.
Why even bother then? yeah it would take a while but go and make a list, prioritize things in a manner of which is the most important in your mind, dont look at it in the entirety. look for the long term investment of it.
and while you're just one guy doing this alone, there are probably some ways to hire people and make a legal thing they have to sign stating that at no point during "employment" are they allowed to use source code for their own desires and if they do they can be fined up to X amount. I'm almost certain there are laws that revolve around that so you can be protected.
If you're worried about your site then dont make a post saying "how to revive it?" and then say something like this when someone makes very good ideas, You dont HAVE to work on it alone, you choose to, just like how I chose to try to make a game in rpg maker mv alone, that went good for all of 3 weeks then i stopped because it became too much for one person to work on.
While this is likely my first comment i do think that you should look at all the options, if you truly do want to keep the site going then go out and get help or like i said, take it one thing at a time.
Then again, im not the one who owns the site so i probably shouldn't be going and giving you "advice" on this. Just my thoughts, the be all end all decision is ultimately up to you.
Just pay them a dollar for every day they work.
If you hire 5 people and each of them works for 20 days total a month.
You'll only have to pay out 100 out of your paycheck a month.
Funnyjunk isn't a business anyway so who cares how much you pay them.
I'd be absolutely glad to get 20 extra dollars each month. Most or part of this was sarcasm
Admin,
is there really info on this site that could hurt anyone?
I think the answer is no.
Worse case they get your FJ cache and everyones email and password for this site.
So people get more spam mail to go into their junk folder. And those dump people who use the same password for everything "might" get boned.
So if saving FJ means finding other programmers or going open source is that risk then its really not any worse then for someone to simply use the internet.
Is your fear that you will be Doxxed?
Why are you such a shadow man?
I said a "shadow man". Like has in a shadow, hidden, mysterious.
I also never said you where dumb.
I like FJ a lot. And I admire you even though I don't know anything about you.
I just got my associates majoring in comp sci (R.I.P. my life).
Like, I don't know much about web development (thanks education) but it always been my understanding that large websites take many people to run and work on.
I think its incredibly impressive that you alone made this website and from what I understand on your own. But I am not saying sell out I was just saying that its ok to seek partners. You are clearly smart for not trusting people. People are **** . But some, only a few are ok. I am saying you should find a few homies that would help you.
I was also asking why you choose to be such a shadow man (mysterious about your identity).
I really enjoy our community, but if spoiling it means keeping this site alive, then so be it. if anything, the normal fags will be converted into FJ fags, or our community will still be alive and well even with the normal fags
I was kinda playing around with the idea of making a wrapper around the site
Just embed a webbrowser without the url bar that opens external links in other browser, inject css to make it look different, laugh.
While I agree, I use the site on my android phone with almost no problems.
With or without an app, the layout is excellent for mobile devices and browing here will always be more fluid than any other website other than maybe 9gag. Using reddit or youtube on the phone gives me cancer.
Always thought the same thing. With the crowd base here making a free app with the help of the users of FJ it would be done in no time. Also cross platformed. If admin posted a link to a thread three times a week that was a base to discuss this kind of app and show examples of work, FJ would build a strong team, through the power of deduction, to make this dream of so many come true.
Moderately well. There are issues with sizing for content and comments, and the interface isn't as well designed as some other mobile apps. ifunny for example, as much as it reminds me of 9gag, has a very simple interface: content, votes, and swiping. Here we have the thumbs and arrows, which are relatively small and not as effective as other sites.
Plus, creating an app means that we're on the marketplace, and have a lot more visibility. At the same time though, some of the comments here are a bit toxic. I'm not saying that we should restrict comments at all, but maybe make them not immediately visible next to content on mobile? Convince less people that we're paranoid psychopaths?
I know, and it's incredibly admirable what you've been able to do with that small an investment, but we should always keep the flaws in mind if we want to expand as a site. We have issues with a shrinking userbase, and I'm sure we have before and survived, but if we want to do it again we should be realistic.
The site's beautiful on PC, not so much so on iOS and android, and that's where the market is. If we want to take the mobile market, we have to consider the flaws the site has on mobile.
You know, you've asked for money before and it hasn't worked because people thought you weren't really having problems.
BUT, if you asked for money to expand the site instead of maintaining it, you might find that some people are more willing to donate for the sake of the site.
While true, you don't have to give it to me. Not only that, I can give you a time stamp to show you proof. these are all people wanting to get their names out there and want to show they can program. and i'm sure a lot of people do it.
alright new plan, admin creates 100 funnyjunk copys with names fake names, people go to bigbootyasianbitches.com and boom its really just funnyjunk in disguise. its a bulletproof plan
I agree it would be a good idea, especially if I could get my notifications without opening it up. I haven't had any problems with sizing but my phone is pretty big so I probably just don't notice it. Formatting could definitely be worked on a bit, and more simplistic could be nice
I've tried to select the coloured text through the buttons at the top there and through my profile. Nothing seems to work and the apply button doesn't show up.
-Revive the steam group, advertise it better. I never even knew we had one half the time. Feature games, start a Funnyjunk curator group, 'Admin Recommends' or some **** . Thehumanidiot just made a game, have game night with it, stream, feature it.
-Start a lets plays youtube channel. Bring back funnyjunk parties.
-Bring back negative level muting. **** posters drive away new members.
-Official Funnyjunk app.
-Stop with the MP4 gifs. I miss my gifs.
-No more stickies papa admin.
i already have 50 something webms that are gifs
admin imo it's either an option for new users or keep the mp4s, cuz it's lower filesize in the longterm helps.
This is exactly what I'm talking about. It's advertised so little that 95% of the userbase doesn't even know it exists. That's probably why all 3 TF2 servers, and both CS:GO servers died.
In all honestly I'll probably, sometime in the next few months:
- Allow users to create a channel/board and add custom css.
- Make it so you can login to FJ from other domains and setup your board/channel on another domain.
But if anyone cares:
- More user options: coming tonight, ability to see GIFs instead of mp4, turn off "your content has reached top 200" notifications, etc.
make this an emote, it will bring people back, i promise. also its the xmas holidays people are on vacation, only thing i can suggest is rewards for hitting top 20, make people post if they think they will get something out of it, special badge or the ability to change fonts if you hit it otherwise people see no point in even trying.
but anyone can get coloured text, one decent post is coloured text, so there is no incentive to post like crazy to hit top 20, you cant hit top 20 posting once a day you need to post at least 10 times and they ALL need to get at least the 750 thumbs, if there was a reward for hitting top 20 that no one else could have except for being in that spot, people would fight to keep it posting way more then usual thus keeping this site alive.
You kept babbling on about a reward for posting content and i was saying that colored text is that reward but i did not know you where talking about overall top 20
Also maybe do some sort of raffle pool, everyone puts in money (even a little works) and then we get a randomly generated set of numbers. A small percentage can be put towards advertising, and site expenses. The winning number set will be randomly generated.
i'd like to see a better done funnyjunk merch site as in better quality stuff then the old one and if a user gets top content on the front page on a busy day/weekend getting the possibility to add a picture to put on merch to sell.
Of course you lost users, the site has been a sack of **** :
-added webm and auto converted gifs, but they wouldn't play for people for over a month (Firefox) and will never play again for people on Win XP (it's the h.264 codec, it's not because it's mp4, which you lied to people about)
-gifs auto converted to webm created a huge hassle for people who just wanted gifs, because you were too ******* cheap to buy an extra 4-8TB hard drive or two for disk space. You should have only added mp4 for videos people wanted to upload, not to save your ************* disk space for gifs. What did you save buddy? Only 100-400 dollars? **** you.
-made images just suddenly turn off if too many are on a page with no way to turn it off completely. How about you just fix your ****** ajax, scripts, and styles so they don't lag the browser to death. I mean you're already lazy loading the images, I don't know what ******** you told people about 'it's a caching problem' (when images aren't loaded until they're visible).
-Wonder why your site is ****** when you have a bipolar problem of **** talking people on the suggestion forum during your 'episodes' (including saying you don't need people's filthy donations) and then during your opposite episodes you're begging for people to turn off adblock and sucking dick for donations like a crack whore.
I'm liking the idea of the channel / boards. It makes channels a bit more of a community, rather than a filter for content.
Advertise boards / channels better though. They're things that create a community with similar interests. I'm much more likely to go to /a/ on 4chins instead of /anime/ or /animemanga/ when i feel like finding new stuff. Bring back HD WEBBUMS as well. The only slow uploads are webms that are like 15MB+. If those get cached, it shouldn't be an issue of speed in the end.
We need to advertise more broadly, fj isn't a commonly known site. If we get new people to check it out we may increase user activity. Also we should try to come up with an app, if possible.
What if you re-vamp DJAdmin? I really enjoyed it when it was a thing. The main problem with it in my opinion was the inability to actually get involved with it though. If you can make it more interactive it could be a huge thing.
Stop incentivising troll accounts with titles like dark lord. People like fedoralover scare new users away because they make us look like a bunch of autists.
Well if you really want to gain more traffic I advise you get some normies like me encouraged to join. Make a FaceBook page and post pics , memes , videos and what ever it takes. Like a legit FunnyJunk twitter , FaceBook tumblr . You need to keep up with the times admin.
Honestly, there just isn't that much funny stuff to repost on this site lately is the main reason.
Memes have died down somewhat and sites like 4chan and reddit haven't had much good material either.
I've noticed that when browsing the front page, i get from content with 1k thumbs to content with ~350 thumbs a lot quicker than i had a year ago.
Have you tried taking demographics on the types of users, such as if they play video games or watch anime and what kind? Perhaps it would shed some light on the direction of the site and whether or not to bring in more of that group or strengthen the weaker areas.
Well giving posters a very small portion of add revenue if they make the front page might help encourage more quality content (or thumb whoring). I can see it going wither way and either helping or hurting, so try it out for a bi and see what happens.
Didn't asking people to post comps and tag them or watermark them as FJ work a few months (or a year) ago? Actually I think it was just the comps, the watermarking sounds ****** also yeah people leave sites during December to focus on shopping, finishing up the semester or quarter.
They'll be back, they always come back.
I think a fair amount of people have left the site because of the shift of personality we've had recently, we've gone from making fun of race and sex, to just saying unfunny racist and sexist **** . The increase in overly right wing **** also makes a lot of people think we're more juvenile then the site really is.
Do you think negative-level muting would help with that? On the one hand, it might amount to mob-driven gags, but on the other, we wouldn't have issues with consistently stupid people.
I'm not saying don't be negative, I'm saying that I've noticed people are just straight saying, **** all muslims and blacks, they're sub human trash. That's a far cry from Ahmed giving only one demonstration of suicide bombing to his expectant class, or Jamal tripping as he runs down the street because his pants are too far down.
I'm from England, and i see a lot of Americans on here, I can tell they are from the comments which they have made. And you are right, it is the straight out blatant racism, no set up to class it as a joke or banter, just ******* fear and aggression in a couple of words.
I dont think this site should cut back on any viewing rights, I think the people that use this sight grow the **** up a little and start making this the amazing place it was a few years ago.
whatever, point is, no one wants to wake up every day to "daily reminder 828349" or "jews are the problem in every problem". It has reached obnoxiously high levels. And it comes from the same few users! I was worried when I started blocking their content that the front page was going to be gutted of the good content, but nope, FJ returned to what it was back when i first started coming on. ****** memes and occasionally a touch of feminism bashing. Much better than "EUROPOOR RAPPED BY SAND ******* LOL" every 3 posts.
I was legit thinking of leaving for reddit and/or getting a life before I could block content. ME! THINKING OF GETTING A LIFE! that is just sad.
Same. I'm rather right-wing myself, but more and more commonly I'm seeing stormfront-level crap making mid-or-top comment, and I hate it. Even if it is in jest (which is getting more and more difficult to believe) it's just disgusting. In my book, disagreeing with, or even mocking people is fine. But blatant racism, even jokingly, is just distasteful, and will only hurt things in the long run.
The right wing needs more people like you, honestly. It is disheartening to read the comment sections in some posts, where all logic and humanity is downthumbed and the comments with the most thumbs are those such as "we should wipe Muslims off the planet", " ******* are sub-human", "the only race capable of civilization is the white", etc. Luckily, people like you still exist on this site! Have my thumb
Yeah, probably, it is going from ***** and giggles to full on Hitler-did-nothing-wrong. There are still plenty of users that disapprove of this and comment whenever such posts appear, yet the people agreeing with them seem to be more and more lately.
Your guess is as good as mine. The obvious answer would be to advertise, but knowing you you're probably broker than a Taiwanese hooker.
You could start a YouTube channel/podcast/Twitter account. If not you then somebody who can actually produce quality content on a consistent basis. Just something that'll push this site mainstream without spending a ******* of money or effort. The most original and creative thing I did on here was put incorrect subtitles over Japanese porn, so I don't know if I'm the man for the job.
We can act on our primal instincts and become like 4chan. Go on raids, tell people to kill themselves, and just be cancerous assholes in general.
It's up to you admin. If this site sinks then let me know when the end-of-the-Funnyjunk party starts.
I think the biggest thing holding FJ back is how niche we've become. We're like a hive mind, and that turns new users off. I'd look for ways of combating that.
I would strongly suggest trying to find ways of making the channels more accessible and interesting that way people who are all interested in the same fanbase can more easily chat. Maybe add a comments section under each channel's main page and more channel specific features?
Also, I think each content should have at least 1 tag before uploading so the search feature isn't completely useless.
This, the site is garbage on mobile. You make an app that makes this **** run smooth maybe a no ad premiun version if you wanna be stingy I'll gladly toss you a few bucks.
**logicalcommonsense used "*roll picture*"** **logicalcommonsense rolled image**Maybe post some workout videos of you explaining to all of us autistic fellows how to get ripped like you?
Honestly, if you're struggling as much as you make it seem over the past years, you should at least make the donate button more noticeable. Make a donation bar at the top of the overlay next to "Search" , there's a perfect space for it, and come up with a monthly goal. People love helping to hit specific goals, as well as support their community. Just saying
