And how would the alpha even control the direction from the back? One woof - to the right, two woofs - to the left? What if the old ones have bad hearing? Do they chain-woof to the front?

theguythatisnotyou (01/05/2016) [-] Here's the thing; besides humans wolves are the greatest pack hunters in the world. They are incredibly smart. They were the only thing that really posed a threat to early humans. I mean like an actual threat to the pack of humans not one guy got attacked by a lion threat. There is a reason why we formed a mutually beneficial relationship.

the older just leads the way (they've traveled the most anyway) and the alpha barks when it's time to hunt
